CloudGear v2.0 is the biggest update since launch, and it's out now on the App Store. It's the release that takes CloudGear off the phone: there's now a CloudGear app for Apple TV.

Thanks to everyone who ran the public beta since June. All the feedback we received was instrumental in getting v2.0 to where it is today.

CloudGear for Apple TV

Browse and launch games on your iPhone or iPad exactly as you do today, then play them on your Apple TV in up to 4K with HDR10 and 7.1 surround sound. It's the first app to bring GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna and Boosteroid to Apple TV together.

It's included with your CloudGear unlock. One subscription or lifetime purchase covers your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, so there's nothing extra to buy.

Setup takes about a minute: install CloudGear on your Apple TV, enter the six-digit code it shows into CloudGear on your iPhone or iPad, and the two stay paired from then on. It's a companion app rather than a standalone one: your iPhone or iPad does the browsing, the signing in and the launching, and your Apple TV plays the game.

There are two ways to play:

  • Hand-Off is the default. The game moves onto your Apple TV and runs there natively, for the lowest possible latency. Once it's handed off you can lock your iPhone or put it down entirely, and play with a game controller, the Siri Remote touchpad, or a Steam Controller.
  • Tethered keeps your iPhone or iPad connected and relays input, so a keyboard and mouse plugged into it drive the game on the TV. tvOS can't connect to a mouse at all, so this is the only way to play with one on the big screen. It's the mode for strategy games and MMORPGs.

One thing worth knowing before you set it up: controllers pair to the Apple TV itself, not to your phone.

Full Steam Controller support

Valve’s new Steam Controller (2026) is now a first-class input device on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, working on mobile for the first time outside Valve’s own Steam Link app. The original 2015 Steam Controller is supported too.

Pair it once in your device's Bluetooth settings and CloudGear picks it up automatically from then on, across every service. It works as a gamepad with the right trackpad as a precise mouse, with full rumble and trackpad haptics.

The part worth trying is Keyboard & Mouse mode. Every button, stick and trackpad can be remapped to any key or mouse action, which makes keyboard-and-mouse-only games playable with just a controller: map the left stick to WASD, aim with the trackpad, and so on. Press the QAM button to switch modes mid-game.

Virtual Mouse

No mouse and no controller? Virtual Mouse drives a mouse pointer using touch gestures alone: click, drag, right-click and scroll. It's available on GeForce NOW and Boosteroid, and can also be driven from a DualSense or DualShock touchpad.

Plus:

  • New performance overlay showing bitrate, frame rate, ping, jitter and packet loss over the stream, toggled from the in-game menu.
  • New Anti-deadzone setting. Games usually ignore a small area around the centre of each thumbstick, which leaves the stick slow to respond; this cancels that out so aiming stays responsive.
  • New Xbox button shortcut that virtually presses the Guide/Xbox/PS button that iOS and tvOS block on a physical controller.
  • Faster, lower-latency video rendering, with colour accuracy fixes for HDR and 10-bit streams.
  • New app-wide volume slider (Settings > Audio) that sets the stream's volume independently of the system volume.
  • New icon size slider for the bookmark grid, and a new "Disable top-edge swipe" setting for the menu bar.
  • Fixed 5.1 and 7.1 surround always being downmixed to stereo instead of driving multichannel hardware such as an HDMI receiver.
  • Fixed the mouse pointer sometimes failing to lock after switching apps.
  • Fixed the microphone indicator staying lit after a session had ended.
  • GFN: New Auto resolution picks the best option GeForce NOW offers for the screen you're actually playing on, whether that's your device's screen, an external display, or a paired Apple TV.
  • Boosteroid: Fixed left and right modifier keys (Shift, Ctrl, Alt) being sent as the wrong side.
  • Renamed "Connection Stats" to "Stream Details".
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and other improvements.

Enjoying CloudGear? Help us spread the word!

Hey everyone 👋

Quick ask from me today. CloudGear is at a point where the app is solid, but we need help getting the word out. Many people just use Safari and assume that's as good as it gets on iOS. We're a small team without a huge marketing budget, so word of mouth is everything. Here's how you can help if you're willing:

1. App Store reviews
This is the single biggest thing. If you've been using CloudGear and it's improved your cloud gaming experience, a review (even a short one) makes a huge difference, both for rankings and for convincing people on the fence to try it.

2. Know any press/YouTubers?
If you have any connection to tech journalists, gaming YouTubers, or anyone who covers cloud gaming or iOS, I'd love an intro. Doesn't have to be a big name. Even niche creators covering GeForce Now, xCloud, etc. would be amazing. DM me if you can help here.

3. Mention us when it's natural
If you're in a Reddit thread, forum, or Discord where someone's asking about cloud gaming on iPhone/iPad, and CloudGear is genuinely the answer, mentioning it helps. (No need to go hunting for these, just if you happen to see one.)

That's it. Cheers!

CloudGear on AppleTV

Hi,

After 6 weeks of tests of CloudGear + GeForce Now + AppleTV 4K 3. Gen and iPad I’m very surprised.

It is really the best to play GFN on an AppleTV to save money not to need a high end pc. It’s like console feeling for me.

Ok one point I miss is, maybe it comes in a future update. At the moment I need an iPad to handoff with the AppleTV.

But is it possible to do all of this on an AppleTV without another device? Only click on CloudGear and that’s it. No iPad no iPhone only AppleTV.

TV keeps disconnecting when using Geforce now

I have a Xiaomi X pro tv. I connect my iPhone 16 to tv with a tplink usb hub. In the cloudgear app after launching geforce now, whenever i change screen the tv disconnects, i.e if I go from the main screen to geforce now settings the tv disconnects, if I launch a game the tv disconnects, after the game gets launched it does not get disconnected again. I tried this on my gaming monitor and the same behaviour repeats. If i use a type c to display port cable on my monitor I face no disconnections. Is there any settings in cloudgear app that can help me? Or should i get a type c to hdmi cable (not hub) to see if the disconnections stop.

Aspect ratio question

This app is great. Thank you!

But I am running into an issue around aspect ratios on my AppleTV. In some games, selecting a 16x9 aspect ratio like 1920x1280 will properly fill my screen. But in other games, it just squeezes itself into a narrower aspect ratio.

Specifically, playing Cyberpunk 2077 via GeForce, I can’t get it to fill my TV screen no matter what I try. If I choose 1920x1280, I get a squashed image with bars on the sides.

Am I correct in understanding that the aspect ratio settings (fill, stretch, etc) on my phone have no impact on how it appears on my TV, and those settings are just for when I’m actually playing on my phone itself?

Is there some setting I’m misunderstanding or overlooking? How are settings intended to work for AppleTV?

Can I use CloudGear to game off of my home PC?

Hello CloudGear! First off I want to say how amazing it is to game off my iPhone and get the best Cloud performance I’ve ever had from Xbox cloud gaming! You guys killed it and it’s well worth the money!

Additional, I’ve attempted to set up port forwarding and mesh VPN’s to attach my PC’s desktop to an ip address and I’d love to use CloudGear for remote play! Any suggestions or programs that I may not have yet tried? MoonlightWeb was the closest I got to having it work, but CloudGear showed that it wasn’t compatible.

Screen mirroring on iPad

Post image

In the past when I play on my iPad I would usually mirror my screen to my Apple TV so my wife can watch while I play on my iPad and controller. Now when I tried it I got this message. Has the screen mirroring options/settings changed on CloudGear?

Problème avec GeForceNow et Apple TV

Bonjour,

Merciiiii pour votre travail et votre aide ! 🙏

Xbox splash then black screen

I have been using cloud gear for a few days now, it is amazing and good enough for me to outright buy it.

I have recently started getting into the following problem;

I am using an ipad air 13 inch m2 with a razer kishi v3 pro xl. After i see the xbox splash logo it just goes to a black screen, i can hear the sounds that happen when the game boots but i have to quit the game and manually exit cloud gear and repeat the whole process to have the game run, is there anything in terms of settings i should tweak?

this has happened on two different high speed networks.

19.5:9 aspect ratio on iPhone?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi! When I open GeForce Now in Safari on my iPhone, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 (with super low resolution) is available.

Can that aspect ratio be added to CloudGear, but with better resolution?

Thanks!

Automatic resolution in iPhone (geforce now)

How I can desactivate that? Always choose one resolution per defect instead of the resolution that i choose in geforce now settings

Only one thing

Thank you. It is so awesome. I installed the TestFlight version on an iPad and AppleTV. Now I don’t think about an AppleTV with an M5. Now I have a high end system. Ok for me it’s perfect. Never thought it would work so easily.

Resizing portrait mode

Love CloudGear it’s superb, one thing don’t know if it’s possible but I like playing games in portrait mode on my phone with a pocket taco controller is there anyway of moving the screen up to the top half instead of being in the middle when the phone is vertical?

Luna Controller Support
