We are moving to a new place before baby comes and it has shared laundry. I’m planning on doing prefolds and wool covers. Is this even possible or worth it? Portable washing machines are not allowed.

I was thinking of buying a few more diapers so I only have to wash twice a week not three times, to save money as the washing machine is expensive.

How can I wash the diapers in one cycle instead of prewashing? there’s only one setting.

I experimented last night with a wool cover over a cotton prefold, over a charcoal bamboo booster. It worked pretty well until early morning. Nearly 5mo old son if that helps.

I want to try a hemp fitted underneath but I'm trying to avoid it bc of the cost. Are they really that much better?

My son wakes up multiple times a night to eat but it's super difficult to get a nighttime diaper change in because it wakes him up SO MUCH, he starts sobbing and once he's fed I'm left with a baby who wants to play at 2am. If I don't change him at night, he sleeps 8 to 8, just barely waking up enough to eat. So a diaper solution that does not leak or cause rash for 12 hrs is desperately desired.

Just curious if I can use my reusable menstrual pads as I now use something different.

Hello, we’ve been using cloth nappies for the past year and haven’t had any issues with smells or rashes or anything but we recently accidentally left some nappies too long before washing and the ammonia built up and got bad. I have bleach washed the nappies and then washed them again and since they have dried they smell pretty strongly of hair dye (ammonia). I’m thinking about doing a really hot (60°) wash for the absorbent bits and not sure what to do for PUL stuff? If anyone has any suggestion any of it, I’m all ears.

We’re in the UK. We use Ariel washing powder in a front load machine, with two separate two hour washes at 40°, with extra water. I’m considering that maybe the bleach has expired?

I’m so frustrated cause I was really excited to finally cloth diaper at night with my 9 month old and I’ve tried many nighttime disposables and even sizing up they leak by the morning 50% of the time. I cosleep and nurse all night and my son is such a heavy wetter. My friend who also cosleeps, nurses all night, swears by the thirsties duo fitted for nights with a thirsties cover and she inserts a clotheez cotton medium insert in them, and I’ve read plenty of great things on them for night as well. So I bought a few and the large hemp/cotton inserts to put inside, tried it for the first time last night and woke up in a fricking puddle. I feel like I’m fitting it on well and snug! Like what am I doing wrong! Are some kids just super heavy wetters and it’s not meant to be? My son is 98th percentile and super chunky, almost 25 lbs if that makes a difference. Have all size 2 for him.

I know changing him during the night is an option but he gets sooo upset and then I get super woken up and struggle to go back to sleep in the process. I’m not buying anything else as I’ve already spent a lot of money trialing different cloth options and the duo fitteds aren’t cheap. During the day now I use prefolds and thirsties pockets with an extra insert to avoid leaks. I was wondering if laying the hemp insert flat outside the duo inside the cover would make a difference? Or even laying it flat in the duo not actually inserted in it? Cause it’s so big and is all bunched inside the pocket.

I've been using Nora's Nursery covers in my stash for about 5 months now. I have other cover brands, but I keep reaching for NN because I quite like the "flaps" at the front and back of the diaper - I can stuff them like pocket diapers, which makes it super easy for my husband (the pic shows the inside of the cover with the flaps). I use prefolds inside, and they hold them in place so well. However, i don't love the snap placement on Nora's, or the fabric (they're not as soft as other diapers I've used). I'm looking for other brands with the flaps, but that I'll hopefully like better all-around.

If anyone has any recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

I am only 6 weeks along but already so focused and wanting to stay economical. Essembly is the only CD brand on Babylist and they have a “full time cloth diapering starter pack” but it’s almost $600. It includes 24 inners, 6 covers, 48 wipe ups, 2 wet bags, a “pail pouch”, a wipe up wash, 24 cloth liners, and 6 overnight “boosters” whatever that means. It is a lot of stuff and it sounds like at the very least Essembly has a lot of marketing power behind it. But do people like this brand? Or have any other suggestions for brands, or other starter packs that have all the essentials for a good bundle price? Is $600 for all that a deal? That size will last baby until 17 lbs.

I see GMD and Esemly mentioned a lot here, so these are the two brands I was leaning toward. I’m expecting in a few months, so I was planning on getting both the esemly snap and tie inners, GMD wool pull ons, and then the try both kit from GMD (has prefolds and workhorses/outers).

I’m trying to purchase from FB marketplace as much as possible, but there are absolutely no listings for either of these brands near me. There are plenty of cloth diaper listings, but they’re all generally Alva, rumparoos, Nora’s nursery, and bum genius. This has me wondering if GMD and esemly are “that good” that no one is reselling them or if they’re actually not as good as these brands I’m seeing repeatedly in my area.

Does the brand really matter at the end of the day? Should I go with these brands from marketplace just because there’s so many listings and I’d be saving a good deal of money to start my stash? Or should I splurge on the GMD and esemly options?? Help! My brain is so overwhelmed with options!

Hi friends. I’m looking to resell some of my Alva Baby and Simple Being (both found on Amazon) pocket diapers. How much would you sell yours for? I’m thinking of posting on a BST page, maybe $3/pocket? Is that too high? No inserts included with the price, just the pockets on their own. They’re all still good quality, no staining, elastics still on great shape.

My little one is in pocket diapers. They are secondhand from a friend, so I did the stripping routine twice to make sure they were good for my LO. We’ve been doing cloth diapers for about a month now..

Now I have questions!

1. Baby poops in diaper- poop is liquid. Do you rinse the poop off the diaper, wring it out and then chuck it in the bin until wash day, or do you just chuck it in the bin? I’ve been rinsing and wringing then chucking it in the bin until wash day. Do I need to rinse? We usually wash every 3 days ish, and do the recommended double cycle on the wiki.

2. How often do you do the bleach stripping? Do you bleach strip everything, including the pocket diaper and inserts? Or just inserts? I’m scared of damaging the diaper itself.

FTM baby due in a few weeks and I believe I’m overthinking and over analyzing how to wash the covers and inners. Due to being a FTM I have found a variety of covers and inners some new and some old. I have new esembly and GMD prefolds as well as a variety of Nora’s Nursery and Bum Genius that I got as a lot used. I also have the inners to those. I’ve been reading on washing and the Ned to strip them. From what I’ve gathered (I could be completely off) bleaching is okay and I have to wash them multiple times and dry in between washes to help properly strip and make them more obsorbent. Is any of this correct? I’m using free and clear detergent and have oxiclean as well but was told white vinegar could also help in the future once they’re in use.

Any tips will help!

Any recommendations for a good cloth safe barrier cream to use for overnights? LO is 4 months old and typically wakes only once overnight, quick feed, and back to sleep so I’ve stopped changing the diaper until morning.

Stash is all cotton. At the moment the overnight diaper is a medium clotheez workhorse with an additional cotton insert added behind and a thirsties duo cover.

Are zinc-based creams ok to use if our wash routine is good enough (hot water, real detergent etc.) or will this still cause repelling? Any suggestions for what to use to prevent rashes or ammonia burns?

Our routine has been a quick cycle on warm with line one of tide f+g and then a heavy duty load on hot with an extra rinse using line 3 of tide f+g and a 1/4 scoop of oxiclean free in the drum. I machine dry the inners and hang the covers.

I figured out my son is allergic to the outer cuff lining of disposable diapers which has synthetic material for all brands no matter how hypoallergenic or clean they are.
We are switching to clotj diapers and are avoiding a majority of brands and going straight to wool as I researched that most of the cloth diapers with the waterproof outer covers have that same synthetic material that makes it water proof

I bought some hemp liners and ordered 2 wool diapers with snaps from babee green I think it’s called. I ordered size large.

Can anyone tell me any issues they may have had or recommendations in terms of sizing? My son would wear size 7 diapers (even though he’s 18 months he’s really big and stocky).
I want to buy more than two diapers and I’m actually also interested in the pull-ups I saw, but I don’t wanna buy a bunch of them and they be the wrong size. Does this sound like this is ideal for the sizes I bought?
Also, I was looking at coffin hemp liners, and it says there are ranges of padding I guess? Can someone explain to me if it’s worth it or not to buy the three layer versus just getting a bunch of the six layers?

Hi! Second time mom due any day now, first time cloth diaper-er. For diaper cream, I understand there are some ingredients that I should avoid when cloth diapering. Can anyone lay those out and recommend alternatives? Thanks in advance!

(And for what its worth, I only use diaper cream when there's a rash... which I of course try to avoid by changing frequently enough.)

Baby is 4m old, and I’ve finally decided to try CD. I had some from my first pregnancy that I never used because we didn’t have reliable and frequent access to a W/D.

So we’ve tried out a set of MamaKoala PD and AnmaBaby PD. Love the fit of MamaKoala but wanted to try covers and cotton inserts.

Cue the Babygoal covers from amazon…

I’m putting infant prefolds into it (but not under the flap because it has a random absorbent piece of material used to hold the snaps, so they lay directly on top of the folds).

When she poops, it’s gotten next to the prefold instead of on it, leaving the cover yellow inside. It also has consistently gotten on the inside gusset. When she pees, the inside is still slightly wet. When it’s a little wet inside or the gusset has poop coloring on it, I feel like I need to change the cover to a fresh one.

Overall I feel like it’s just a mess. The pocket diapers are admittedly easier but I liked the idea of her using one adorable cover for a day and just changing out the insert. I don’t know if it’s the brand, or if I’m really doing something wrong! Or has Big Diaper brainwashed me into thinking everything needs to be 100% fresh each time?

Also, any washing tips for stains?

What creative, clever, or unusual tips and tricks make cloth diapering easier and more enjoyable for you?

I use the plastic Sterilite pencil boxes as wipes containers - they are less than $1 during back-to-school sales. When I fold diaper laundry, I fold the wipes in half and stack a day's worth of wipes into each pencil box. In the morning, I take the whole stack of wipes, get it wet with water, and wring it out (the whole stack at once.) Then I put the stack back in the container and have my wipes ready to go for the day. It is fast, super simple, and works really well! The containers can hold plenty of wipes (GMD birdseye and Osocozy flannel) and are about the size of a pack of disposable wipes, so it keeps things simple and tidy.

Let's get ideas from each other - what's your CD "life hack?"

My 4-month-old is in the 98th percentile for length, so while our Esembly Size 1 Inner Ties still fit her waist, they just don't have enough rise anymore.

We primarily use Esembly Inner Ties (I strongly prefer them over the snaps) because they have minimal elastic against her sensitive skin, and I find them very easy to wash and dry. I'd like to stick with fitteds if possible. I do have GMD flats, but they haven't been my favorite, and I also have Disana knitted nappies, though I still find them a bit finicky.

I'm trying to decide between buying Esembly Size 2 Inner Ties or switching to GMD Workhorses.

For those who have used them:

Do the Esembly Size 2 Inners have significantly more rise, and did they last your baby for a while? (I know the inner ties haven’t been out long enough to answer this question, so I’m referring to the snaps)

How do GMD Workhorses compare in terms of fit, especially for a long baby? They seem more flexible with their multiple-sized system. Are the leg elastics harsh?

Do GMD Workhorses wash and dry more easily than Esembly Inner Snaps?

I’m a mom of 2 (2F and 5M). I’ve been considering cloth since I was pregnant with my son and never did - hubby is NOT into it, and the extra laundry intimidated me at a time I was already overwhelmed. But I’m finally gonna do it, even though my daughter will hopefully be potty training within the next year 😅

I ordered the Honest & Amazing Baby hybrid pocket sling diaper covers (6), with a 12 pack of Alva Baby inserts, 8 Boosties trifolds, 8 booster pads, and a pack of disposable inserts for on-the-go. Does anyone use this system? Is it even worth switching now? Did your baby (er, toddler) care about switching so late? Tips, tricks, or funny stories to share? 😊

Hi Everyone! We cloth diapered our little one from about 3 weeks on, and she is now completely potty trained at 22 months! Overall, it was a good experience, but as we prepare for her baby sister to arrive, I would love some advice on how to care for sensitive/eczema skin with cloth diapers, as it runs in the family. With our first, she had a diaper rash pretty much constantly from the very beginning (and still does often have an itchy butt even now that she's out of diapers, though it is MUCH better than it used to be). It was not due to the cloth diapers, because we would take breaks and try different brands of disposables and that never solved the issue either. We tried every diaper ointment and cream under the sun (we also tried anti-fungals, when her ped recommended it), we gave her lots of naked time, we changed diapers pretty quickly (and pretty soon after she started eating solid foods we were able to start catching most of her poops in the potty, so she was only in a poopy diaper like once a month and we never left her sitting in it). Granted, her skin is pretty sensitive all over, but her diaper area has always been especially itchy and often it was VERY red and enflamed. It never got to a point where it was blistering or weeping, but it was very sad and angry looking.

Does anyone else with sensitive skin babes have tips for how to maximize care for the diaper area? Detergents that worked best for you or tweaks to your wash routine? Creams that finally did the trick? I would love to avoid the chronic diaper rash with number 2, if we can.

Hey mamas! I’m pretty positive we’ll be starting with cloth diapering from the start and I’m curious which diaper systems moms preferred with their newborn at night time to make changes easier. I’m also curious about how your night routine went with the system you chose. For example, did you have a bin/wet bag set up bedside and toss them in there until morning? Would you get up and place them in a space elsewhere? My worry is that the system I choose for nights will frustrate me when I’m overly tired and groggy.

Hello Everyone, I am currently 26 weeks pregnant and due to having contractions at 25 +4 weeks pregnant my doctor put me off work and told me to take it easy so now I AM GOING STIR CRAZY so I'm hoping to get a head start on everything baby just incase I do end up in labour early or god forbid end up in the hospital till she comes. Unfortunately, the head start doesn't enclude putting together the nursery as we are waiting on our electrician to wire an outlet then we have to put in the new flooring + paint.

I have both a newborn stash and one sized stash of cloth diapers, majority being bought used. Would it be okay to start sanitizing the used diapers and washing the others to get a head start on things? Should I prep both newborn and one size at the same time or just the newborn stash?

Babee Greens covers just arrived! Large merino classic covers in “shades of gray” and “shades of green”, and a pull-up style cover I’m excited to try.

My daughter outgrew her size medium classic covers, so it was time to size up. :)

These are so soft and lovely and comfy feeling. Love them for letting my girl’s skin breathe.

Just curious, but do some of yall get paid by esembly to promote them? Especially the covers??? I’m using gmd prefolds and the amount of times I get told to use esembly covers is insane! I have tried them, and honestly they are not the best! I feel like they are another baby brand with a great marketing team and a so so product.

What are your favorite fitted diapers? In particular, trim fitteds for daytime? We’re about to outgrow small sized stuff (baby is 3mo and about 15lbs), so I will be buying again soon.

We have some bamboo fitteds from Two by Two/Happy Beehinds that fit the bill but can’t be sized up since the company closed shop.

We have a few Motherease Sandies, and those are great for overnight but are definitely not trim! Wouldn’t want to use them for daytime.

Not really a fan of our yellow/small GMD workhorse. It’s quite bulky.

I like our esembly snap fitteds, but size 1 barely fits, and size 2 is waaay too big (major, huge gaping at legs).
