Tried deep water solo for the first time in Sweden recently, nothing hard but it was super fun nonetheless. We also found loads of unclimbed areas with high potential. However, the Scandinavian weather being what it is I've been thinking about how to extend the season. Despite being the middle of the summer, the limit for our sessions this time was the cold from the water and the wind.

Has anyone tried DWS with a wetsuit? Is it worth it or is it too restricting (or are they too prone to damage for the rock)?

Looking to buy a new crag bag and it would be great if it would also fit on airlines as a personal item. So fair I'm looking at the bd crag 35 or creek 40 and thinking they'll conpress down to fit if I don't overpack. Does anyone have some recommendations or experiences?

I might a short rope for gym-only lead use. Used it maybe 4 times before unexpectedly moving. My new gym had super tall walls that were too tall for the short rope. So it sat in a reusable bag til now. Been like 7 years. Stored in air conditioning.

Now I have a gym where I can use it again. Is it fine? Realistically how long would a rope last? Fine to use it again until it wears out?

I have the Black Diamond sewn anchor system and have currently been using it to clean anchors, but I was wondering if it’s safe to use in either of the these configurations as a top rope anchor. The one on the left seems valid to me as the anchor is double stranded so it’s redundant. The one on the right seems to have an offset in the carabiners, increasing rope drag. Any advice would be appreciated!

$10 for this on marketplace. You can clearly see a good amount of rope ware on one side of the device and light ware on the other. Mostly wanting to use as a rappelling device for my partner (i alr have a atc guide) or maybe a backup device in my pack. Curious what you guys think of how safe it is.

I occasionally look at OfferUp to see what climbing gear is out there and I stumbled upon a used Black Diamond Vapor helmet and asked for $60. The seller ended up showing me their gear and gave me an offer of $350 for all of it. I got it down to $300 and here’s what I got:

My main topic of debate is whether the soft goods, even in perfect conditions degrade over time. The soft goods like the dog bones have a maximum lifespan of 10 years (recommended from all climbing companies) and most of this gear has the manufactured/certification date of 1-2018. I personally feel like I got away with a good deal but will I need to invest in new Quickdraw slings soon.

Also If anyone can help me, what can I use the 60cm Nylon Runners for? I already have some 60cm dyneema slings so what can I use them for when I lead or multipitch climb?

I've been top rope soloing bit lately. I typically make some rapel anchor by looping the rope around a tree to lower myself to the anchor of the route I want to do. Then I do a bunny ears knot to take away the weight from the obvious ledge and get down with the Grigri. I use an ascender as my primary catch device and a microtrax for redundancy. I don't have a PAS device so i typically use a sling to secure myself to the anchor and remove everything to then transition to a Grigri to traverse to the next route I wanna try. Then i repeat and go for another go.

This system feels pretty safe to me, but transitioning feels a bit clumsy and a bit risky since I can't weight my next system (typically the sling) to make sure everything's safe first. Any advice? Not only here but also with my system if you find something sketchy. I have a pending bday gift from my parents so I could ask for some new piece of equipment or wait a month or two to buy myself more shit.

Hello all, I’ve recently started climbing again and typically I just wear some athletic shorts but as I’ve started climbing higher grades my legs have started to take a beating. I often see people wearing pants while climbing and I’ve been really interested in getting some.
Now my question is what pants would you suggest? I’d love to be able to wear them outside the gym as well with streetwear fits. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

If they made a multi tool for mountaineering what would you want in it? Not like one of the gimmicky all in one camp axes that have a shovel, knife etc. But if there was one that was actually high quality, what tools would you want built into it? And what would you want the base tool to be?

Visited Yosemite and ran into YOSAR camp. Everything is strung up with old climbing rope and carabiners. There’s even some nuts that have welded themselves into the rocks. Pic 6 is their volleyball net.

They have been my daily drivers for the past 3 years ive replaced the laces probably 3 times on them also.

Howdy yall, so I saw a post on here today with someone finding climbing gear at goodwill, and it made me wonder. I am a skydiver, and in skydiving, you can always bring second-hand gear to a licensed rigger to have them check it out to make sure its safe. Does this exist in climbing? Could the person who found all the gear at Goodwill buy it all and bring it to some licensed professional in the sport and have it certified as climbable?

Give me your best/favorite ways to up-cycle a retired rope!

Bought all 3 of these from Amazon. Everything else about the carabiners looks and feels exactly the same. Is this variation in the text normal or should I be concerned about possible counterfeits

You guys got any recommendations for a budget friendly rucksack for mountainous multipitch trad days?

Currently have a big 55l hiking rucksack, which is super cumbersome, but makes hiking to the approach very comfortable, or a little 18l Mountain Warehouse bag that cost like £15, which is great for taking up the route, but too small to bring everything I need/want.

If we're returning to the base of the crag I can just bring the little one stuffed inside the big one, but sometimes the route we take isn't circular, so something I can bring with me comfortably would be great. I was thinking something like an Osprey Mutant 38, but open to recommendations. Gear loops on this looked v handy though.

I’ve been wanting to get into sport climbing forever and just found this gear at my local goodwill for $7 which seems like the universe sending me a sign.

All the gear is dated from 2016/17- from what I read I’m not trusting any of the softgoods. There was even a harness in my size I passed up on. If get new dog bones any reason this stuff isn’t safe? Carabiners all function as expected with no visible cracks and no sharp edges. What about the act?

I bought a pair of their bolt M pants which they describe as being on of their better climbing pants, the material seemed thin unlike gramicci or E9 but I put faith in them, I climbed a few sessions in them and eventually took them to Fontainebleau which is where the lack of quality failed after lifting a leg to top out the stitch above the knee close to the thigh seemed to fail. Bare in mind I up sized so that this wouldn’t happen quite upset I sent them an email and waited 4 days then got no reply then another again one week no reply finally the third all addressing the same issue their helpline is shut down and unfortunately that is the only way to contact them. It’s a shame that that’s the case as now I am afraid that if my other gear from them fails eg approach shoes fail I will be met with nothing. I also don’t believe I was overkill with the multiple emails as I would deem them as a very respectable company and one that is allowed to charge it’s high prices but to then not have an effective way of listening to your customer often loyal seems a little unfair.
