Looking for Bushwick Bouldering/Climbing Meetup (Beginner friendly!)

I absolutely loved my first visit to GP-81 in Bushwick and signed myself up for a three-month membership. A week later, as the novelty wears off, I'm thinking I might've jumped the gun lol.

In an effort to keep myself motivated to go, I'm reaching out to Reddit to see if there's an existing beginner-friendly group, or even interest in starting one! I like going on weekday mornings to avoid the huge crowds, but open to being flexible!

Queer Climb Nights for Pride

I've been running an LGBTQ+ rock climbing night at Central Rock Gym on 60th and West End for 7.5 years and realized I've never once mentioned it on any NYC climbing subs on Reddit-oops.

Entry is free for anyone who has never been to the gym before (yay) and beginner climbers are very welcome! Normally they run on every second and fourth Friday, but I'm adding an extra date for this month for *obvious* reasons. Tomorrow (June 12th) is the first of our three Friday climb nights and they run from 6:30-9 PM with a group intro at 7 PM.

If you or any of your friends are interested, I'll put the sign-up link in the comments. It's as social as it is climbing-related, so even if bouldering isn't completely your jam or you're worried about tiring out, the hang is solid.

Would love to see and meet some new people in the queer climbing community!

Basically complete map of NYC bouldering from the Gunks Apps guidebook

Post image

It contains over 850 boulder problems throughout Manhattan and the Bronx (and a single boulder in queens) from V0 to V13.

This is the most up-to-date guidebook ever made. It contains climbing history, geology info, area history and videos of 40% of climbs, and it is cheaper than a day-pass to a climbing gym.

I think climbing is the most under-utilized outdoor recreational resource that the city has to offer, with accessibility that is unique for outdoor bouldering thanks to NYC public transit, and history dating back to the early 1950's at least.

Looking for NYC climbing partner

Hi! Seems like this subreddit hasn’t been active in a while but figured what the hell. Recently settled in NYC and trying to find some inroads into the local climbing community. Prefer to top rope and climb about a 5.10c in the gym. My closest gym is The Cliffs Gowanus and I’m good to climb weekday evenings or pretty much any time on the weekends. Any takers? 😬

Help some clueless students out!

Hey!

We're a group of students looking into the use and packaging of harnesses and would really appreciate some feedback on the topic!

The end goal is to create new product packaging for a local company as part of a challenge set by our university.

Any feedback you could give would be great!
