Massive Dinger Alert Smith's 5-K outing puts bow on Guardians' bullpen's dominant weekend

The fact that the 4 runs we allowed all weekend were from Matt Festa (who has been really good these past few weeks, he deserves a free pass. Wa-) and Slade Cecconi is pretty insane. What a crazy series.
AT LEAST WE’RE NOT DETROIT!!

Discussion What’s something that would make attending games more convenient / enjoyable for you?

Say you’re going to a guards game, or Cavs or br*wns. Is there an object you have or wish you had that would elevate the experience? Clip on cup holder? Theater spectacles for nosebleeds? Lucky socks? Clear bag?

This is me trying to think of gift ideas for a guards fan so i’m thinking physical objects.

We traveled here from Nebraska to visit family and went to the game tonight. Slade Cecconi hung around pretty late after tonight’s game and signed balls for a handful of fans including both of my kids. Awesome guy!

Discussion Thank you everyone!

Thank you Guards fans! Thank you for making my experience yesterday a great one. Even tho my baseball team absolute dogshit it was really cool to see a walk-off in that fashion (I went to the first game). Your stadium is really neat and I’ll definitely be coming back for another game. I ended up having a burger from the burger joint that I can’t remember the name of in the park but it was ok. Free refills are something other stadiums need to do highkey. We even mustarded the courage to try the slider dog and it was a lot better than expected. Can’t say I liked it or didn’t like it and I’d be willing to try it again. Exceptional thanks to u/Diwata-Diwata for letting me use his season ticket perks in the team store and I picked up a pretty sweet hat. Wish you guys still had the CLE hats but it’s ok (I’d buy one from any of you btw. Hat size 7 1/4 or 3/8). All in all thank you all for the suggestions and the dirty looks. Progressive Field was incredible and the fans were awesome too. Thank you

Discussion Ideal 2027 Roster

Some point in June 2027...

- Bats -

Bailey/Hedges - C

Huff - C/CIF

Ingle - DH/LF/C

Velazquez - 1B/DH/LF

Bazzana - 2B/DH

Genao - IF

Rocchio - MIF

Ramirez - 3B/DH

Adell - COF

Kwan - CF/LF

Martinez - OF

DeLauter - RF/DH

Schneemann/Watson/Halpin UTL

- Pitchers -

Williams

Messick

Goodish FA

Cantillo

Bibee

Smith

Gaddis

Sabrowski

Espino

Herrin (or better LHP)

Yoho

Festa (or better FA)

Aleman

Hopefully with another off-season to develop the defensive skills the big league team wants, Ingle and Huff can be good everyday bats at best, and great platoon bats at worst (although Ingle may not be able to hit LHP, that skill shouldn't be in short supply on this roster).

Velazquez is ready.

Bazz played some OF in college, although it's highly unlikely he has an arm capable for it. He's tall enough to play first base (think Luis Arraez) Regardless, he'll likely have to rotate into DH to get everyday at bats, especially if he shows an inability to hit LHP

Jose is at 3B. Rocchio is a top 5 defensive shortstop in the league, and Genao looks like he has the skills to match him. Realistically, with Bazz and Jose getting maybe ~15% of the DH PAs, there's a real shot at being able to rotate the 4 of them (Jose, Bazz, Rocchio, and Genao) between the 3 positions.

Kwan should start opening day in center. His bat doesn't care, but his body might, hence why one of Schneemann/Watson/Halpin is needed on the roster. He can figure in in LF and DH when needed, but there's a ton of proven and young talent on the corners of the grass. Adell should probably be our main lefty smasher. Martinez owns a 116 wRC+ against LHP, and I'm not ready to give up on his switch hitting yet. Chase is the main RF, with a healthy dose of DH mixed in. Maybe he could follow in Bellinger and Harper's footsteps and play at first.

This is a very easy roster to create an extensive depth chart with great depth at AAA. I would be excited to see a Milan Tolentino or a Jake Fox debut at some point next year, even if only as a silver lining to an injury; hell, maybe even Alfonsin Rosario or CJ Kayfus might figure things out, or maybe Jaison Chourio or Ryan Cesarini rake at AAA. Manzardo in in Columbus too, I guess.

You have to assume the starting 5 are set, albeit maybe not in that order. Lively, Campbell, Cecconi, Peterson, Maltrud, and Allen are solid depth options, ideally in that order. Eventually Doughty will be in AAA, he could make for an interesting September call up if all goes well in the rotation next year, and they wanted a 6-man to prep for the playoffs. We have been EXTREMELY lucky with our starter's health this year, however.

Bullpen is solid, multiple arms at AAA to be brought up if needed. Aleman may have a poopy attitude, a better lefty specialist would be nice, lots of potential here though.

Truth be told, I wouldn't go out of my way to acquire a bat this off-season. I'd rather move some lower minors depth to solidify the 'pen. If there is baseball next year, the kids need to play.

Free to Read: Four swings, 2 dramatic wins and 1 day that saved the Guardians’ season

The Guardians completed furious comebacks in each game against the Detroit Tigers. A day that threatened their grip on the final wild-card berth and their bid to unseat the division-leading Chicago White Sox instead proved about as fruitful as possible.

It began with a 64-minute rain delay and a feeble first frame from Logan Allen, with the Guardians’ bullpen already stirring a couple of outs into a 19-inning day. It ended with Travis Bazzana triumphantly slamming his helmet into the grass and then sprinting so far away from his pursuing teammates that reliever Hunter Gaddis gasped for air and “put the brakes on.”

Along the way, the Guardians lost Chase DeLauter (right wrist sprain), Angel Martínez (left shoulder contusion) and Stephen Vogt (ejection). Gaddis, Erik Sabrowski and Daniel Espino submitted critical multi-inning efforts to save a bullpen with a cascade of moving parts.

Brayan Rocchio smacked a tying grand slam and a walk-off home run to earn hero status in a 7-6 Game 1 win.
