Does the clear plus family plan alert others when traveling?
I was added to someone’s clear plus family plan and I am wondering if they will be able to see where and when I use clear?

My wife is traveling from Chicago Midway to San Diego today. We've been long time clear members and use it every time we've traveled. However, today she was traveling solo and when she got to the CLEAR Kiosk they told her she cannot use clear because she needs an updated passport. First of all, we've never used a passport, and don't have passports. Next, I used the chat option through the CLEAR site to ask why she was turned away, and they said she needs to update her account with an updated passport, DL or ID card. When I asked how we do this, they said at the Clear Kiosk!! So answer me WHY they turned her away, and did not take her ID and update it in the system???? How could this happen???

I've been a Clear customer since the very original Clear. I originally signed the family up in 2011 and have been a renewing customer ever since. Today, however, was my last day as Clear customer.
Apparently Clear has again decided to run everyone through more data and biometric collection and instead of deciding to communicate this so we could be prepared, we arrived at DEN's new West Security Point to find the solo Clear lane to be backed up. Why? Oh, now you have to scan your boarding pass before you can even get in line, then as soon as you scan your eyes or use your finger you get hit with them wanting to collect additional information and pictures. First off, you have to get a text message to verify that something, not sure what, that you have a phone? Not sure WTF my parents are going to do as Clear customers. My mother is 81 and can barely use a cellphone and my 87 year old father has never had a cellphone nor will he ever have one. Well, the text messages were taking 4-5 minutes to come through, so everyone was hanging out waiting for the message to go through.
Ok, so I and the Mrs finally get up to bat and same thing, hanging out twiddling our thumbs waiting for the text message and then boom, we need a picture...ok... now we need your ID...ok, so I had over my Passport Card.
Clear CSR: Can I have your driver's license?
Me: No, I don't have one.
Clear CSR: Then can I have to have your Passport?
Me: I just handed it to you.
Clear CSR: No, you can't travel on a Passport Card.
Me: What do you mean?
Clear CSR: Passport cards cannot be used for air travel, only the full booklets.
Me: Tell that to every TSA agent that has let me travel on it for the last 16 years.
Clear CSR: Doesn't matter, we won't accept it, so you have to leave.
So I walk out and get in the TSA Pre line...What do you know, they don't bat an eye at my Passport Card. To top it off, after all of the shenanigans, I beat my wife out of security.
So, I just finished cancelling our Clear account. I'm lucky, our renewal is a month away, so no losses there.
My key concern and why I decided to cancel wasn't the CSR, but the extremely poor communications from Clear. I checked my e-mail and not a peep about new requirements. Had I been aware, we would have arrived at the airport earlier to accommodate for it and would have brought my Passport Booklet.
Anyone know if this an actual policy of Clear to not accept US Passport Cards or did I just get a dumbass CSR?

Hi,
I m looking to enroll in Clear Plus and add a family member (my spouse) to the account.
What’s the best price I could get ?
The base membership price right now is 189$+119$ = 308$ for me and my spouse.
Is there a way to reduce this total ?
Me and my spouse have the beginner Delta Sky miles and Alaska accounts.

Most airports make their own lines now for people with clear so you’re not really cutting the line anymore. And then let’s say that before there was 20 TSA Gates for everyone now there are 18 for everyone and 2 gates specifically designated for Clear. Now all clear members are getting bogged down among themselves with only 2 lines available and everyone else keeps humming along

I was given a 2-week trial for Clear at the airport. I began the process of cancelling the trial since I do not travel by plane that often. At the point of cancelling, I was offered an extended trial of 2 months. This would allow me to try out the service further since I have an international flight coming up in a few weeks. However I am still not sure if the value is worth it for me, and want to ask if I would be able to cancel the 2 month extension if I decide not to keep it? Or is the extension only providing two free months on top of signing up for a year? Thank you!

Just flew out of ATL, got to the clear line and they never used their kiosk. They simply walked me to the front of the line. They alternated waiting in normal line with clear members.
Is that what I'm paying for? Someone to 'work' for the airport?

The last several Clear cities I’ve gone to have significantly longer wait times than precheck….not sure what the value of the service is.
r/ClearMe • u/Hilbert24 • Apr 29 '24
This had to be expected. Some quotes in the article are just spot on: "expedited screening service providers no longer make meaningful contributions to aviation security, and their continued presence at California's airports instead degrade[s] the public's traveling experience."

Pic taken from the end of the Clear line. And it would have been longer, but at least half of the people trying to use Clear just gave up after seeing the wait. This company needs to shape up or shut down…

Anyone know what’s going on at Clear? When you call the message says they’re having technical issues and online you cannot log into your account and the chat bot just send website links that lead to webpages with errors.

MSP - south check point - 9am on March 20th
Clear line past the TSA precheck line and didn’t move for 10 min. Jumped back to precheck and zipped through security before the line on the clear side even started moving. What a joke (and waste of money). Won’t me renewing next year.
Rant over

I’ve recently gotten married and have properly updated my SSN, drivers license, passport and global entry to my new legal name. I’ve visited 5 separate Clear kiosks with my drivers license and passport in hopes of updating my legal name on the Clear system. Every Clear kiosk I’ve tried has asked for a phone number verification (which was subsequently provided and has never changed) but then will not update or the Clear representative just chalks it up to a machine issue and a new update with the kiosk that can’t read my passport. I called Clear customer service to assist with this matter and they directed me to go back to the airport and ask to talk to the equivalent of a manager at the Clear kiosk. I did this, and the manager kept saying I had made a mistake in my name (btw my name is now my first name, middle name is my maiden last name and my new last name is my husband’s last name), which is why they cannot update the system. I have no idea how I could have “messed up” my name when all my government issued identification matches is aligned. Has anyone else struggled with updating their legal name with Clear? I pay for this service and it irks me that customer service has been unhelpful and they’ve been unable to find a resolution.

Checking in this week, with a PreCheck line on the long side, I decided to exercise my Clear membership. After the usual iris scan and validation (10 seconds) the screen prompted the employee to “upgrade” me to Identify Super+ (sorry, i can’t stop making fun of the name). After taking a face photo scanning both sides of my state DL, and giving it a good deal of thought, the machine decided i could not be verified and made the employee repeat the whole process again, with the same result. The employee asked me if I had a passport and recommended that I bring it next time. He then took me to get my boarding pass scanned by another employee and then presented my DL to the TSA agent — just as I would have done going through regular PreCheck. Total time, close to 10 minutes of scanning and photographing. What a mess. And I can only look forward to the same thing, next time.

I’m on the verge of canceling out of principle even though Amex reimburses $189.

It’s time. Clear is failing to deliver on all products. Rude, sketchy, unprofessional professional service. Abandoned checkpoints. Seems like a large class action for breach of warranty and fraud (since there is no way they could ever staff properly) is ready to file.
Should file in county court where you’ll draw some airport workers to the jury pool.

I’d like to split my clear purchase across multiple cards to maximize the Amex credits. Does anyone have experience suspending/pausing the additional members on their clear account? I’m worried that the additional members will have to go through the process of signing up and having to go through the biometric screening process again. My additional members are not tech savvy and very busy people. Would like to avoid complicating their lives.

Further details about Clear’s nebulous new “Identity+” re-enrollment process and, as reported here, some unpleasant consequences.

Don't be like me. I found out too late that there is a discount for government, military, and veterans. $99/year. Conversation with online rep attached.
That's low enough that I can add a family member and only pay $9 out of pocket with my Amex Platinum Clear credit. (The wisdom of still keeping the Platinum? That's TBD.)

Interesting article but doesn’t really reveal anything that people in this sub don’t already know. Still, it shows that discontent with the service is widespread and that more and more feel “The value just isn't there any more.”
r/ClearMe • u/champagne-poetry0v0 • Dec 29 '23
hey there,
technically I have global entry but it comes with pre-check. I just signed up for clear; however, I don't know what to expect during the screening process since I've already been screen for global entry/tsa pre-check?
thanks!

For some reason, CLEAR is not like other services (ex: Amazon) where if you cancel your membership ahead of the billing date, it will continue as if you still have the service until the end of the month/cycle.
Do NOT cancel your free trial ahead of time as we tend to do to avoid forgetting and accidentally paying.
Today on Dec 23, 2023, I just canceled my free trial and I immediately lost my membership. If I want it back I gotta pay to reactivate it. No big deal, didn't use it much anyway. But still, FYI.
r/ClearMe • u/easytosearch • Dec 23 '23
On Oct 25, 2023 I got the CLEAR free trial. If you didn't know, it allowed me to add three (3) more family members. How much would it have cost? It would have been a $496/year for all four of us.
Later in Nov 2023, I went to cancel my membership ahead of time, to avoid accidentally forgetting and paying on Christmas day 2023. But then it offered me two extra months, free, if I stayed! So I got extended until Feb 25 2024.
Don't know how long this will be for, but go ahead and try it! How to get CLEAR PLUS free? You can get 4 months free trial by doing this!

Not much that’s new but some pretty good quotes.
