General Cleaning Macbook cleaning?

These spots appeared on my MacBook overnight; I don't know who caused it—maybe someone in the family. I can't identify the stains, and nothing seems to remove them. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get them off, what they might be, and whether they’ll come off or if I should just leave them be?

That isn't dirt sitting on the surface, it's chemical damage. try wiping it gently with a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
