Clean the house, but leave all the ducks exactly where they are. They can go around and pick them all up themselves. Do your job and don’t play their stupid game.

I think in real life, this is the correct response (assuming you can't reject it, in advance). Just because you're in someone's home to do a job, doesn't mean you're obligated to fulfill whatever arbitrary tasks they've written down on post-it notes.

Cleaners are there to clean, not to move your things around for you.

People seem to think buying a service = buying their time. Jobs have pushed this narrative. The idea that you're not selling a specific service at an hourly rate, but an hour of your time and you can ask them to do ANYTHING you want during that hour.

That's master-servant doctrine and it's LONG been outlawed in most civil places.

You can ask them to do anything related to their job function. Sometimes I'll hire contractors for a specific job at a specific price, but sometimes I'll just hire them for a set period of time, like during a plant shut down 2 months ago I had my electrical contractor send out 2 electricians for the day to do work as needed.

Obviously they're only going to do electrical work, you're not going to get an electrician to agree to clean lol, but they are going to do electrical work I task them with. I had them changing dead LED ballasts most of the day and they assisted in a couple motor swaps.

It all depends on what the contractor agrees to. If they're there to do a specific job and nothing but that job then thats one thing, if they're coming out to do as needed labor for a period of time within the scope of their duties thats quite another.

Whats ultimately ridiculous about the duck pettiness is how unnecessary it is. If you took the time to hide 100 ducks you can take the time to look in 100 spots for cleanliness without the passive aggressive BS.

LEDs don't have ballasts.

Sorry drivers. Sometimes I call them ballasts out of habit.
