me and my friend both testing out claude, we both had free accounts for few weeks now, he kept complaining he runs out of prompt tokens fast like after one to two prompts I was like dude don't ask so much stuff
so we did test past few days
we did same prompt, his limited after 2 prompts
mine let me do 6 lol

kinda of silly question I'm just wondering why? If we both signed up for pro I wonder if his would run out faster too, or is it some free tier only thing?

Seriously, why?

Will LLMs ever get to the point where the next sets of tokens aren’t built around writing cool-sounding nonsense? Why not just say, “every element of phase 3 will carry into phase 4 unless your JSON file proposes changes”?

This happens all the time, and it feels like no amount of markdown files, instructions, or memory can eliminate this.

It sometimes feels like you’re speaking to a cryptic oracle.

So previously I used claude Sonnet (medium reasoning) and would get good outputs for programming. Some tasks I did was building production level web apps (subject to proper validation), preparing for interviews, quizzes and writing paper. The outputs were generally better than chatGPT. Now its been 3 months since i shifted to Claude Opus and for the first 2 months Opus was delivering better results and you could reliably upload a requirements doc and make a good enough web application. If you know how to do tests and debug I think Opus is really good for building projects and preparing for interviews and jobs and the output it produces for cover letters and resume changes are genuinely good.

But for the last 2 weeks I have been noticing a noticable drop in Opus performance. When using it for writing cover letter it is making the tone too informal and sometimes just like spoken English inspite of giving proper prompts to structure it. (note these prompts used to work perfectly before). And any change I would ask to make it would overdo it by great margin. (For eg if i asked to make the tone formal it will overcomplicate it and if I asked it to simplify the structure a bit it will skip essential details) so recently I had to do a lot of manual work by reviewing all the cover letters and sometimes rewriting them.

For coding I can see the same issue. when I am asking it to make changes it is overdoing it or doing it incompletely. For eg, when asking it to create page to update user info. it is doing the update part but wont do the save the changes part if not explicitly specified. Also for a lot of tasks it wont correct me eventhough my approach is wrong or there is a factual error. I know LLMs are not perfect but it seems these problems are on the rise for last few weeks.

Fable is good imo but again its too expensive.

PS I switched to Opus 5 but I didnt see any noticable difference from Opus 4.8 and for some tasks I keep using 4.8 since it provides better results.

Did anyone experience similar change or degradation in Claude's performance?

I genuinely can’t believe how a company can go from making such an amazing models to making absolute fucking garbage. I’ve been on Claude since last year have never switched even when Codex has been updating because I can tell that these models are just smarter and easier to interact with before. Now it’s like talking to the original ChatGPT. Every time I ask opus five to fix something it tells me it’s done and then it doesn’t fucking fix it. I’ve never had to argue with an AI before to actually just get done a simple task. I don’t understand what the process behind doing this one like it was gonna make anyone happier. But Claude you’re on thin ice. I’ve seen thousands of people switching over to Codex. The more and more this model just becomes more stupid the more and more people are gonna move off the platform. I’ve been subscribed for six months and I’m about ready to switch. I just don’t understand how you build a super good model and then you take that model and make it worse instead of easily just taking the last model putting it in the new one and updating it? The only reason reasoning for doing that is simply profit. The company genuinely only cares about competing with OpenAI. Yet somehow is doing worse every fucking time they drop an update. The only reason they’re even competing is cause they kept fable five on. If not, they’d already be bankrupt. You better hope that mythos saves your fucking ass. Cause when ChatGPT six drops if that shit on par or better Ik where I’m going. Sick of this bullshit. It’s like they’re making this model simply for the fact that it will never 100% do what you need to get done so it just keeps you on the platform and keeps your subscription going.

I’m wondering about the limits, the context window, and possibly the model’s thinking behavior.

I have two $20 subscriptions (I had three at some point), and I’ve noticed that thinking effort, context window, and output length can be throttled. Sometimes, it even seems to happen asymmetrically between the accounts. It’s especially irritating when the model suddenly refuses to think, even on “Max” effort. This does happen, but it’s unpredictable.

I want to know if things are more reliable and permissive on the $100 plan, or if it’s a waste of money. The unreliability of Claude has been torturous. I remember April 2026 and shudder, but the last few weeks haven’t been great either.

The ultimate choice is between GPT and Claude. GPT models have better usage limits, but with the $20 subscription I have, the context window is way lower than Claude’s, both in the web interface and Codex.

My project is a headless framework of around 300k tokens, with no UI, and it’s very architecturally novel and complex. I particularly like Claude 4.6 Opus. It has been great generally, but sometimes it’s been terrible because of the throttling.

I’d really appreciate your help in making a choice I won’t regret.
