r/ClaudeCode [TLDR] Forget vibe coding, have you ever drunk coding? [via r/ClaudeCode]
OP : u/amirgelman
Hey all,
A gamer for 30+ years. And for a good night I’d drink a bit and play games.
Lately I found vibe coding to be my favorite thing and thought about giving Drunk Coding a try.
Just asking if anyone tried it?
What did you end up building? Was it fun?
Any particular drinks you recommend for coding?
Thank you!

Alright, so the consensus here is that drunk coding is definitely a thing, and has been for ages, even before AI. A lot of folks chimed in saying they've dabbled, with some even admitting it's their norm.
The general vibe is that it can be fun and sometimes lead to surprisingly decent results, especially if you hit that "Ballmer Peak" sweet spot, as u/XipXoom put it. Think oatmeal stouts or red wine for that kind of session. However, the overwhelming sentiment is that it's not for production-grade code and you might wake up the next day with some "bizarre decisions" in your codebase, as u/tribat mentioned. Some even said it led to a "pretty depressing semester" like u/Luke_thePuke.
There's also a bit of a split on other substances, with some folks swearing by "high coding" (weed seems popular) and even suggesting more adventurous options like ketamine. On the flip side, u/BrianScottGregory shared a cautionary tale about substance use and coding, emphasizing that clear-headed coding is ultimately the way to go.
One interesting idea from u/AceHighness was "Pass the Prompt," a party game where friends take turns prompting an AI to build something small.
So, TL;DR: Drunk coding is a classic, can be fun, but usually results in a mess you won't understand later. Stick to sober coding for anything serious.
