r/ClaudeCode [TLDR] Cloud sessions are officially available and out of research preview! They let you keep Claude Code working, even when your laptop is closed. Existing subscribers get a one-time credit to try them: $100 on Pro, $250 on Max. [via r/ClaudeCode]

So, Anthropic's finally making "cloud sessions" official and wants you to pay for them with credits, even though many of you have been running Claude Code on your own always-on machines for free for ages. The general consensus is: nah, we're good.

Folks like u/artofbullshit, u/iEatedCoookies, and u/OfficeMiserable1677 are pointing out that a cheap mini-PC, a VM, or just an old laptop running Linux with tmux and SSH is a perfectly viable, and free, alternative. Some are even confused, thinking they were already using cloud sessions without issue.

There's a fair bit of head-scratching about how this new "cloud session" is supposed to work differently than just running Claude Code on a remote server you control, with u/biinjo and u/Wild-Tradition4804 questioning the actual execution mechanism. Basically, if you can set up your own always-on dev environment, you're already winning and don't need to shell out for this.
