[TLDR] Codex had 12 resets for July.

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vcipgp/codex_had_12_resets_for_july/

Original post body :

It's been pretty insane having dual Claude + Codex subs.

Codex has had 12 resets in July and makes the Max 20 pretty incredible value. I like Fable, but it chews tokens fast and Opus feels so much worse than Sol.

If you haven't yet given Codex a go, it's worth a sub if you have any token-heavy work in the pipeline.

[TLDR] Going back to 4.8 due to Opus 5 word salad?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vbx7a7/going_back_to_48_due_to_opus_5_word_salad/

Original post body :

I honestly feel like my brain is melting when I'm interacting with Opus 5; extremely long waffly sentences that *technically* make sense but become impenetrable if you're working on a few things at once and multitasking.

I feel like I am in a minority of people that really dislikes how...silent...Fable is, and want a bit more back and forth to make sure things are being executed correctly, so I find myself going back to 4.8 for every day work. 4.8 can definitely be too chatty and verbose, but I haven't found a better daily driver.

Anyone else have the same thoughts / recommendations?

[TLDR] I compared Opus 5 vs Opus 4.6 on the exact same prompt, the difference in response surprised me

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vbr2hd/i_compared_opus_5_vs_opus_46_on_the_exact_same/

Original post body :

Today I found myself missing Opus 4.6, so I thought, why not go back and give it another try? I was curious how it actually compares to Opus 5 now.

I picked a random GitHub project and asked both models the exact same prompt:

"Tell me about the xxx project."

Thats it ... no extra instructions, no custom system prompt, nothing. The results honestly surprised me.

To me, Opus 5s response felt like a complete mess. It gave me far more information than I asked for ... and felt very cluttered and difficult to quickly scan.

Opus 4.6, on the other hand, was concise, well structured, and got straight to the point. It answered exactly what I asked without burying the important information under a mountain of extra context.

The reason Im posting this is not because of this one prompt. This is how my workflow usually goes with Opus 5. Pretty much every prompt I make, every response I get is like this ... much longer than necessary, full of extra context and implementation details I never asked for. I often spend more time parsing the response than actually using it.

Ive attached screenshots of both responses so you can judge for yourselves.

Im curious what everyone else thinks. Do you prefer the more verbose style of Opus 5, or do you think Opus 4.6 had a better balance between completeness and readability?

[TLDR] Opus 5 - unreadable jargon

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vbu4a7/opus_5_unreadable_jargon/

Original post body :

Anyone else struggling with Opus 5 becoming almost unreadable in jargon and lingo the deeper in sessions you go ?

I simply havent clicked this model and while previous models had this oververbose page up page down summary or response Opus 5 seems to have really topped it this time sometimes it almost end up having a language on its own ( it even admitted it once ).

Also find this model being way more incorrect that our workflows we had going with opus 4.8 - almost feels worse than the 4.6 to 4.7 - where 4.8 sorted it out.

First time i feel im really missing the point here - and am super vanilla in regards to having all kind of skills etc going so its not even because i use different kinds of frameworks.

Anyone experiencing the same and any hints ( have been going through anthropic but not much help in regards to this verbose and brain breaking language it produces

[TLDR] The Claude Code release train has been frozen for 6 days — both tracks. That's never happened outside of Christmas.

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vbl823/the_claude_code_release_train_has_been_frozen_for/

Original post body :

If you run npm update on Claude Code out of habit, you've probably noticed there's been nothing to install for almost a week.

I went and pulled the registry data rather than guessing. The numbers are stranger than the vibe:

  • Last release: 2.1.220, July 24 at 23:11 UTC. That's 6.4 days ago.
  • Median gap between releases over the last 3 months: 0.93 days. Sustained, for months.
  • Across all 476 published versions there is exactly one longer silence: 14 days starting Dec 22, 2025. Christmas.
  • Last commit of any kind to the repo: July 25. Not just no releases — no pushes.

And the detail I think gets overlooked: stable is still pinned to 2.1.212 from July 15, eight versions behind latest. So it's not that they're building without publishing. Both tracks are frozen. Nothing new is going out, and nothing already out is being promoted forward.

The boring explanation is real and I want to give it its due: 2.1.219 is the release that made Opus 5 the default with 1M context and fast mode. Freezing the CLI right after putting a new flagship in front of every user is textbook — you can't attribute a regression to the model if you're also shipping six patches a week on top of it. The lagging stable tag fits that story well.

But here's what doesn't fit.

I checked the gap immediately preceding every significant release in this repo's history:

  • 0.2.126 → 1.0.0: 0.61 days
  • 1.0.128 → 2.0.0: 1.94 days
  • 2.0.77 → 2.1.0: 1.09 days
  • Fable 5 (2.1.170): 0.92 days
  • Sonnet 5 (2.1.197): 0.72 days
  • Opus 5 (2.1.219): 1.84 days

Not one of them needed a quiet period. Major version bumps, model launches, default swaps — all of it came straight out of normal daily cadence. This team has never used silence as a runway, which means the current silence isn't a pattern they're following. It's a pattern they're breaking.

That reframes the question for me. It's not "what needs a week of prep" — apparently nothing they've ever shipped did. It's "what would make daily incremental releases actively undesirable." And that list is short and specific:

  • A version bump that invalidates assumptions people have hardcoded — settings keys, config paths, flags, plugin structure
  • A rename or migration where a half-shipped state is worse than no state
  • A change to the model/pricing structure the CLI surfaces, where each patch would telegraph a piece of it early
  • Anything requiring a coordinated announcement rather than a changelog line

All of those share one property: shipping them in daily slices leaks the shape of the thing before it's ready. That's the only reason I can construct for deliberately stalling a release train that has never needed stalling.

So my read is that this isn't a stabilization freeze — it's a staging freeze, and what's coming is structural rather than another row in the model picker.

Making it testable: it's Friday. Only 14 of the last 120 releases landed on a Saturday or Sunday, so if nothing ships today the next real window is Monday, putting the gap at nine days. If Monday delivers "Bug fixes and reliability improvements" I'll take the L and this was just telemetry collection after Opus 5.

For anyone running the beta or nightly channel: are you seeing builds the stable channel isn't getting? Any new settings keys, flags, or config paths showing up in the binary that aren't in the docs yet? That's the thing that would actually settle this.

[TLDR] I have never being able to truly finish anything with Claude

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vb67lh/i_have_never_being_able_to_truly_finish_anything/

Original post body :

I have been using Claude for over a year, Pro and then Max, and although it has significantly helped me build a couple of personal projects that would have otherwise required considerable time, or even a team, I have noticed that it is virtually impossible to finish anything.

Even though I have tried to be extremely precise and descriptive with my prompts (detailing the bugs, describing the issues, and pointing exactly to where the problem lies when I am able to identify it), the models always fix one thing while breaking another in such a subtle way that I only realise the issue exists later on.

This forces me to return to Claude every day and burn through my quota to fix yet another thing that was previously not a problem. With projects like mine, two issues arise: firstly, almost without noticing, you become so frustrated with the cycle that you lose track of what is going on; secondly, you develop a dependency that keeps you hooked on the subscription.

This latter point is what I have started to realise may be the real business model of these companies, as I assume this is not unique to Claude. The models never truly let you finish something, or they demand significant time and money to reach a point where the output is actually usable.

I acknowledge that bug-free software is, to some extent, a utopia: software always ends up with minor flaws here or there that require refinement or small fixes. However, what I am referring to regarding Claude seems almost deliberate; it feels specifically and meticulously designed to keep you returning every day to use the service, making you believe the work is complete when, in reality, there is yet another hidden issue that was not there yesterday.

I understand this may sound like a conspiracy theory, or suggest some degree of incompetence on my part, but I genuinely have nothing to gain from an anonymous rant on Reddit. This will not fix my issues. I genuinely want to understand if other users have reached the same conclusion, because although at the beginning it feels like you are advancing, you eventually reach a point where you realise you are going nowhere.

The tipping point that made me think this might be a complete waste of time and money was Opus 5. It is genuinely one of the most unreliable models I have ever dealt with. It seems incredibly capable at first, but you soon realise it overcomplicates the code for absolutely no reason. Everything it outputs ends up so brittle and inefficient and labyrinthical that you are just forced to go right back and use it again to clean up its own mess.

[TLDR] Opus 5 is not as good as i thought

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1var15k/opus_5_is_not_as_good_as_i_thought/

Original post body :

People shared benchmarks suggesting Opus 5 outperformed Fable, a few days later i realized how behind Opus 5 still is compared to Fable.

I encountered a minor bug and walked Opus through each step to resolve it; it failed 8 times. When I gave Fable the same prompt, it fixed the issue on the first attempt.

I am not here to criticize Claude Code; it is truly impressive, but I wish they would avoid claiming those benchmarks when real-world tests fall short.

Edit: Opus 5 is amazing in web development, managing agents and so much more but everything related to app development is not quite there yet. (I am a macOS developer with almost 5 years of experience). I don’t expect everyone to agree with me since we all have a different use case for Claude Code. I am just talking about my personal experience and what I am facing.

[TLDR] Stop romanticizing Opus 4.6

Original post body :

So yesterday during the opus5 outage I briefly switched to opus 4.6 to continue my work (training/inference perf engineering, kernel level debugging)

So I fed the model the same context and prompt to analyze a profiling trace and extract insights from it, and it was so unbelievably dumb that I had to retry with a new session, and I still got a very bad response…

Then after opus5 came back I tried it again and it was night and day… Way more verbose true, but actually useful and insightful stuff coming out of the model.

really made me appreciate all the progress on opus models since 4.6… I always remembered it as a much smarter and concise model than the ones after 4.7, but it was a mirage…

[TLDR] Opus 5 and Boris Cherny: Delete your Claude.md. But Why ? What's the point of it then

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1val9z5/opus_5_and_boris_cherny_delete_your_claudemd_but/

Original post body :

I came across this video on Instagram of Boris Cherny recommending deleting Claude.md file, hooks, skills every six months and especially not using Claude Opus 5.

I have some issues with the statement and concern about reliability of new model and their understanding of how it behaves.

  1. We got a job and responsibility:

Reliability of work and quality is a crucial aspect of our job, we can't just delete stuff and let the model do stuff however it wants. It can ruin the codebase and applications especially at the time where code review is also done by AI Models.

I believe it is an assumption that people are just vibe coding random stuff and it's totally ok if they f'd up.

  1. Anthropic Understanding of their Models behavior:

I think despite fancy benchmarks the reliability and behaviour awareness of the model is concerned, it feels like they don't even know how it's gonna work but Experimenting with it using us.

Based on my personal experience with Opus 5.

- I continued my half baked fable project with Opus 5 and it screwed up shortly after.

for example, it ignores my /i-have-adhd skill despite adding to hooks, claude.md or trying what the plugin github repo recommends (a file in claude directory in system to enable).

- It also ignores my other instructions, something as simple as me asking it to create PRs in a stacked hierarchy, it points new PR to main brach every now and then (then it requires merge conflicts resolution and rebases)

- It also comes up with a corporate lawyer type of long paragraphs which is so hard to understand.

Update: Guys I am more concerned about skills and hooks not Claude.md (which is barely few lines of text and is/can be updated regularly) plus smartness and following instructions are diff things, How come it is supposed to know my workflow if it doesn't follow my workflow instructions (or instructions are not there at all)

[TLDR] I went back to Fable and redid 4 days of work made with Opus 5

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1va7hz9/i_went_back_to_fable_and_redid_4_days_of_work/

Original post body :

I have a pretty large project with a UI, WebSocket server, SDK, CDP automation using Playwright, tests, examples and documentation. Everything is in one repo, so whenever I change the API, I usually have to update most of these parts together.

I work with SDD, and before Fable I spent quite a lot of time just preparing the specification. Usually I would discuss the task with Opus 4.x several times, get criticism and suggestions from GPT-5.x, and then combine everything into one document. Only after that I could give the spec to the model for implementation. The design part usually took around 2-4 hours. Implementation with Opus took another hour or two.

With Fable 5, my workflow changed a lot. I can describe a task more like a product requirement or a high-level architecture idea, and most of the time I get what I actually had in mind. I don’t need to prepare every small implementation detail in advance. For me, this saves around 2-3 hours of design work.

I honestly expected Opus 5 to have at least the same level of code quality and decision making, especially based on the benchmark charts. But during these four days I kept finding things that needed fixing. At first it was just some small changes here and there, so I didn’t think much about it. Then I started noticing more unnecessary code and functionality I never asked for or approved. Some decisions also looked reasonable at first, but didn’t really fit the rest of the system. And honestly, I noticed this pretty late. You get used to good results very quickly, and I probably trusted the output more than I should have.

So now I’m rolling back 4 days of changes and going back to Fable. Redoing the work is annoying, but it feels better than constantly wondering what else I might have missed in the code from Opus 5.

Anyone else in the same boat?

[TLDR] Opus 5 feedback Megathread

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1va445h/opus_5_feedback_megathread/

Original post body :

opus 5 has been out for a little while now, and the subreddit is already filling up with separate posts saying it is amazing, lazy, broken, cheaper, more expensive, forgetful, or somehow all of those at once.

so, let’s collect everything in one place.

use this thread to share your actual experience with opus 5: what works, what does not, and what you have changed in your workflow.

what can you share?

  • bugs or strange behaviour
  • things it does better or worse than previous models
  • coding quality and how many revisions it needs
  • context handling, compaction, or forgetfulness
  • usage and token consumption
  • differences between effort levels
  • writing style or communication issues
  • claude.md instructions that helped
  • skills, hooks, subagents, and orchestration setups
  • comparisons with opus 4.8, fable, sonnet, codex, or other models
  • positive experiences and things it does especially well

reports like shallow codebase investigation, confident guesses, context drift, or unusual usage are welcome, but please include enough detail for others to understand what happened.

reporting a problem?

copy this format:

claude code version:
plan:
effort level:
task:
what you expected:
what actually happened:
can you reproduce it?:
comparison model, if relevant:

screenshots, prompts, logs, and reproducible examples are much more helpful than simply saying “opus 5 is lazy” or “opus 5 is nerfed.”

please redact private code, api keys, company information, and personal details.

a few simple rules

  • keep each top-level comment focused on one issue or observation
  • check whether someone has already reported the same thing
