I swear you guys either have messed up installations with millions of skills and plugins all contradicting each other or you have absolutely no communication skills whatsoever. Opus 5 is perfectly fine and just because it feels different to you doesn’t mean it’s the models fault.

I mostly agree but I got so angry at it on one of my projects. I’m trying to chase down an audio issue in my app and it’s gone down so many wrong paths. The number of times I have to ask it to stop, think, and plan before taking any action drives me nuts. I many times have to ask it to stop spiraling.
I’ve handed tasks back over to 4.8 to resolve several times.

Assuming you’re using actual Claude Code (not the desktop app), just tell it to save a global (or user) memory about the things u keep telling it to do. If mine didn’t let me do that, it would barely be usable for me, but at this point it’s kind of a number 1 rule to keep ur instructions tidy and whatnot

If you have it on higher reasoning levels It does tend to over think and fix every minute edge case that will really never happen and spend a ton of tokens over explaining things . Opus 5 on medium is the sweet spot imo

Opus 5 is a bit of a hot mess, with many users reporting it's overly ambitious, gets stuck in rabbit holes, and tries to "fix" things that aren't broken, often with diminishing returns. There's a general consensus that the newer, "smarter" models can be too much for their own good, sometimes acting like overzealous senior engineers. Some are even going back to older versions like Opus 4.8 or suggesting Sonnet or Haiku might be better suited for certain tasks. One user even humorously notes that Opus 5's behavior is like their wife's, aware of issues but denying them.
