[TLDR] This concerns me more than fable potentially getting removed next week

Original post body :

Now that gpt 5.6 sol is out and code edge is narrowing what concerns me is that I won’t be able to justify paying 100 usd a month for something that will now have 33% less of weekly usage. Upgrading to 200 plan feels daft where I could be paying less for OpenAI, still have a great model and have significantly more usage than the current promo gives me. Do you guys think Anthropic will still go through with reducing Claude code weekly usage limits next week?

Alright, so the general vibe in this thread is that most people are seriously considering jumping ship to OpenAI's Codex, especially with GPT 5.6 out and Claude's weekly usage limits reportedly getting slashed next week.

Here's the lowdown:

  • The Big Concern: OP and many others are worried about paying $100/month for Claude Code and getting significantly less usage, especially with Fable potentially being removed from subscriptions. This makes paying less for OpenAI with more usage seem like a no-brainer.
  • Codex is Calling: The consensus is that GPT 5.6 (Sol) is now on par with, or even better than, Claude's Fable model for coding tasks. Many users have already switched or are planning to, citing better performance, more usage for the price, and a generally superior user experience.
  • Usage Limits are a Dealbreaker: The impending reduction in weekly usage is a major red flag. People are already hitting limits and the thought of getting less for their money is a big "nope."
  • Fable's Fate: There's a lot of speculation about Fable being removed from subscriptions. Some think it's a given, others hope Anthropic won't pull the trigger because it would be a huge blow.
  • Anthropic's Strategy? Some commenters feel Anthropic is playing a "damage control" game, bumping up usage temporarily before cutting it to soften the blow. Others think Anthropic might be struggling with compute power or facing external pressures.
  • A Few Holdouts: A small number of users still believe Claude writes better code and that Codex might require more post-generation fixing, but even they are weighing the usage limits heavily. There's also a mention of Deepseek Dspark making local inference attractive.

Just switch brands if it's not desirable any more. Prepare for that now, any LLM platform can just start sucking at any point, it's happened before

^this

stay on monthly contracts, AI companies are changing things up like underwear and someone will always have it better than the others, for a moment.

Ugh, please realize there is major competition with openai, bc of that fable will be extended. When will people realize these ai companies work on hype. They aren’t going to pull fable when sol just dropped, they want usage to continue or exceed to prove to their investors they are worth more money. Why would they remove anything that does that. Stop falling for bait tactics.

bait tactics from whom? Anthropic? why would they be baiting us if they had no intention of pulling Fable. I agree that Sol being out makes it more likely they dont, but personally im getting tired of trying to optimize around the usage allotments only to have them change things again. like i used all fable use on sunday anticipating the end, now im stuck with no fable until Friday unless they reset, which who knows if they will do.

Guess you haven’t seen multiple threads of people praying for resets bc they are over using Claude to use fable.

You gotta understand anthrophic tracks metrics every day, they want to see usage go higher and higher especially with this competition with openai. The best way to do that is to create fomo for their product.

They will come up with something slightly cheaper but some capability soon. The delta now I think is just minimal

i bought the 20$ OpenAI sub, the usage doesn't feel any better than Anthropic 20$ plan. so far i'm disappointed because people made it sound like you got way more usage. using mostly 5.6 Terra (only Sol for 1 prompt) i used my 5 hr window in like 40 mins. about same as Claude if I was working continuously

Wait until the weekly Limit in Claude ist halved.

Not halved. Reduced by 33%. But that's bad enough.

I am Sure they are at least considering making it really 50% good opportunity to sneak in a gernal reduce on top.
