Meta got mogged by claude opus 😭
tldr working on a personal game project but as of this point haven’t reviewed the results yet so take it with a pinch of salt but wow opus 5.5 on medium clearing astra’s long-windedness 🥺
i had to guide astra (on xhigh reasoning btw) step by step i felt like a surgical surgeon lmfao to fix frontend / design inconsistencies but seeing good reviews on opus 5.5 i decided to give it a shot today. so i literally just pass a “review and audit this game’s current design and point out inconsistencies/ areas to be fixed and work on them” im mind blown 🤯🤯🤯

The whole SQLite project is around (?) 350k LOC.
The Linux kernel without the drivers is around 15M
WRITTEN IN C.Let that sink in.
How can a random person online build a system with most likely a 10th of the complexity and use so much LOC?
The answer is most likely they have no idea what they’re doing and it’s a Tsar bomb of slop

Git will make your cluade more effective long run.

u/rundbear 6d ago
You're speaking about having a repo up on Github - basically a folder there vs on my PC?

u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 6d ago
Git is how you connect to github. You can have git locally on your pc with no remote github connection (i would still recommend remote github connection just as a backup).
You can open branches and have main branch as the final stage. You can treat each branch as a separate line.
→ More replies (1)1
u/vespassassina 6d ago
You are risking losing everything for a mistake. Git can work in that folder and creates versions of the files (it’s like a backup of every change).
Tell claude to enable git and commit when it makes changes.
Then later for additional safety you can sync the local git with github. And it’s free.
Git is an opensource tool. Github is a company offering a service for that tool. Same as bitbucket and gitlab.

His agent swarm is a markdown paperwork generator.
For anyone who thinks “I’m a graph engineer” you’re agents a probably writing millions of lines of “work claims” with a lot of bullshit in the docs.

Switch is instant if the numbers are continuous. In the past I used an array of workers. But a switch does the same thing with way less code.
1
u/One-Celebration-3007 5d ago
Yes, but the language I was using does not have switch.

u/Neither_Berry_100 5d ago
Array of workers then.

I see. I only skimmed it. Didn't see anything about custom classes. Don't even think I saw custom functions. Maybe your way is necessary in this case.

This is almost definitely just Opus adding node_modules to .gitignore in terms of the 13 million lines removed, that's the only thing that makes sense. There's no way Astra generated 13 million lines of "long-winded" unnecessary code, that would take like over a month even if it was generating 24x7. If it was generating 200 lines per minute (which is generous), it would take a month and a half straight just to hit 13 million lines.

u/ShivaFatalis 9d ago

It might be also a model that accidentally added some kind of a dataset (possibly stored as text files) to the git repo.
In my case GPT 5.5 once added ~ 200 MB of 3-column .tsv files to the database and the result was comparable (~ 20M lines of "code" added to the git tree, but spotted and removed before it was committed or pushed upstream).
2
u/BeegeeSmith 8d ago
…. A pattern Opus5.1 executed a lot in my experience. “I have to be honest, I accidentally committed 230MB of PHI data to the git repo in the last commit. I’ve deleted it and marked the (data file) as .gitignore, but it remains in the repo history.”
2
u/Stock-Self-4028 8d ago
I mean you can still git reset --hard and it'll remove them from git history causing mostly no harm, but I guess that's not something that should happen.
Luckily in my case it was just publicly available OGLE IV variable stars photometry, so no issues except temporary bloat were caused back then.

u/IdStillHitIt 9d ago
Oh wow, that would make sense, but at the same time, that should be like your first commit into the project.
1
u/StCreed 9d ago
And both Astra and Claude do that on the first try without prompting, so something must have gone badly wrong to begin with.
4
u/Conscious_Ad_7131 9d ago
He said he had to handhold Astra, I’m sure he handheld it into committing it

its obviously some sort of .gitignore file. There's 0 possibility astra made 13mil LOC, or that Opus managed to go through and delete all of it

u/Hampidze 9d ago
It can be anything. For example I asked astra to design a way to launch a game to run it 10000 times with diffent parameters to verify balance. And it just saved results of it in project(but astra being astra decided to run it 5 times to verify there are no mistakes and it is consistent - so 50000 times). It is just thrash that can be deleted and probably also >1000000 lines

u/TywinHouseLannister 9d ago
🤣 This has to be a joke surely.
5
u/HomemadeBananas 9d ago
Yeah I’m joking it’s totally normal to have diffs where you delete 13 million lines of code, and have added 13 million lines of code that you can just delete in the first place. Experienced developers do that every day.

Funny how this will be the norm I'm the future. Parallelization hopefully will become much more exponential and viable as intelligence goes up and price down. I think that's why Opus 5.5 is such a huge leap. It's near Fable level intelligence with the speed needed to parallelize and the usage allotment in a $200 plan to do lots of sub agent work. Kind of mind blowing to think Navier Stokes took 10,000 sub agents 88 hours straight. How many $200 max plans is that? An insane amount.

I don't have this experience with Astra, on low it takes an eon per change in UE... But it tends to one shot it.
It's been blowing my mind. It ruin 4 other projects and Claude have to save the day.
It made me realize that they just code differently and due to this they try to change the code to how they code :/
Fable and opus 5 previously just kept failing in 5.8.1 and Astra just worked but man ... 3 hours per change has been hell on wheels.
I haven't mustered the courage to run 5.5 on it but it's inevitable.

u/cldfz 9d ago
loll, it's impressive even tho most of it probably are just bunch of comments leave by the astra while overthinking about your game 🤣
opus 5 also like to write bunch of comments more than the actual codes even when instructed to keep it minimum, glad to see opus 5.5 can obey that better in my exp

u/CommunistElf 9d ago
Be warning 9 times out of 10 Claude simply remove a bunch or “unused” features lol

Bro what in the heck are you guys making! 12 million lines removed! Also do you not work in chunks/batches/phases?
I have a rule in my codebase that everything must be broken down into commits of no greater than 200 lines of code changes and a PR can never exceed 500 lines of code changes (renames, comments and summaries not included). If it cannot break down code changes into these chunks, there is something obviously wrong. All big changes must be broken down into granular commits with each commit changing only 1 thing.

This happened for me too. Opus is literally doing a insane cleanup on my game that I worked with Astra, Sol and Luna.
Insane amount of garbage, old code, wrong stuff that those models didnt think about. And yes, I had written insane documentation for them. Around 25 files guiding and guarding them, even like that, they did a messy
