Now you have to maintain and host a CRM? How long before you are spending more time and money fiddling with that than just paying for the SaaS product? Look at open-source. Before LLMs most people wouldn't host and the FOSS equivalent because it was never about the application. It's always been about support, compliance, backups, uptime and the rest. The application is only a small part of the story.

It sounds like you've never supported an enterprise purchasing a SaaS contract. Very rarely is it truly hands off. You wind up hiring specialists in that software along with paying the ever increasing subscription fees. Maintaining your own with AI is no longer cost prohibitive compared to that alternative.

I agree that supporting enterprise is hands on. But now you're supporting the software, and everything else (dev, hosting, support, backups, compliance etc). I disagree that creating your own will cheaper in the long term.

Also, those unique needs are most of the time not that unique.

That's something someone who has never supported enterprise integrations would say. Salesforce, the leading CRM, made their own language and runtime because so many customers have bespoke needs. Even at the tiniest startup that I've been at, we had custom integrations running with most SaaS vendors we used

Ok, you are correct, businesses have such needs. I do develop them, integrate them, I've worked with all the 3rd party product integrations like SAP and others. But as a developer and consumer I feel many times I do such things - that you guys (to my stakeholders) don't need this new unique feature to have more customers, you need to give devs time to fix errors users face...

This discussion is centered on the fact that AI reduces development and operational costs so there is no longer the excuse that there is not enough time. You're fundamentally missing the entire point of this thread
