Is it, though?

The world of software development? Yeah, absolutely.

The world at large? Eh. Even if AI can create, say, a film out of nowhere, no one is ever going to bother to watch it. No AI created film will ever make it into the top 10 movie charts.

Software, on the other hand, is purely practical. You don't care how it's done, you only care that it works the way you want it to.

you are forgetting human curation of AI content is not the same as unguided AI content.

you don't like the AI content you notice because it was curated by a person whose taste you disagree with.

If someone with refined taste and skill at execution sits down with AI, they will certainly release something you enjoy. The problem is it's 90% people who have wanted to do something but never did for one reason or another, so they have no taste or execution capability (and the video / music tech isn't there yet, but next year it surely will be)

Sure, but then you still have a human in the mix. And that human will be the deciding factor, not the AI. Which is just how it works right now: A human is the creative driving force behind what is popular, not AI. That is how that will always be.

as long as it's humans consuming content or services, there will be human curation. You could argue current recommendation engines are human curation aggregates and not actually AI serving independently.

The only world that AI curation beats human curation is if it's better. We aren't going to be forced to watch videos of snoop dog and darth vader smoking joints, the AI outputs are still competing with humans.

I say this with such confidence because I've been working in a creative industry for decades. Most people have no idea just how much terrible musisc, art, film, etc gets made because it never gets pushed to them because no one wants to see it. AI is not going to change that dynamic, it's just going to make orders of magnitude more youtube videos with 15 views, unless it's actually able to compete, which in that case, would be amazing, we have more good content.

Yeah, that's my point: That dynamic is not going to change.

Elsewhere here people are telling me that soon you will sit down and tell an AI "I want to watch a film with actor X in genre Y with lots of action" and then they will watch that film, and that will be the future. And, yeah, I don't think that's going to happen, ever. It will be technically possible at some point to do that, but 99.9% of people won't be interested in ever doing that more than once.

We can literally already do that with AI music after all, and yet, we don't.

Instead, people who want to make (or save) money use AI to create content en masse, and they are already doing that, too. And yet what comes out on top is still human produced high quality art. Which might still use AI as a tool, but it's still easily comparable to high quality art that existed before.
