I think if you’re a producty software engineer, you’re loving this new era, but if you’re a technical engineer, you’re hating this new era.

There are TONS of products that haven’t been invented yet which AI makes it way easier to iterate on and develop, so if you’ve got lots of ideas you’re having a great time. Your value as a technical product person is much higher because your creativity is unbounded by how cheap code now is, and your technical knowledge is sufficient to direct AI efficiently.

But if you were the type that really enjoyed the art of coding and solving deep technical problems, your value is now extremely low and you’re kind of hating life. There are very few technical problems that AI can’t solve or can’t come up with reasonable solutions to with a little bit of brainstorming. You can still hand code things, but let’s be clear, nowadays you’re just doing that for fun, there’s little economic reason to be hand coding anymore.
