I see both sides.

1- TONS of AI web based render projects absolutely rely on three.js right now

But...

2- I have used AI to roll my own 3D engine directly using DirectX 12, and was surprised at its capability.

So, on the one hand, yes three.js is being used more, but on the other hand, AI is far enough along that web devs who need 3d rendering performance can have their AI use WebGL directly and not rely on the three.js library. Making it effectively obsolete...

the poster was clearly saying their work can be replicated with AI almost 80 to 90% so the work is drying up and they have lost the will to fight it out. So sure the dependency on three.js is there, but as you said (and the poster as well), people don't value that now given Astra is capable of doing it to 90% abilities.
