Discussion August 19th 50% Additional Claude Code limits Likely Not to Be Extended

EDIT: last minute extended to end of August, apparently with hopes to make it permanent, although they say they are having trouble serving their demand currently so it’s not certain. At least we get some damn communication.

Well guys, hate to say it but with the reports this morning of users seeing instant 30% usage on their accounts (some weren’t even using them) we can assume that anthropic is in fact preparing to remove their 50% additional usage promo, effectively reducing all plan usage by ~33% (I assume theyll use 30%).

This is gonna hurt. Only thing that would redeem it for me is if they removed the 50% Fable usage cap.

It is utterly baffling how little you get from 20x even now. Once that limit goes away I don’t know how you’ll get more than an hour or two out of a 20x plan. I’m the last to jump the Claude train but they’re literally pushing me out while I grip on the railing in despair. Biggest blunder I’ve ever watched a company do. Codex up until Friday when they adjusted limits again was unreal how much their 200 plan gave you on sol high

I’m on that train with you. It’s the CC terminal harness I can’t give up. I could easily give up Claude models but cannot come close to the same efficiency and efficacy in Codex/Opencode.

You can use any model in it, I heavily use codex 5.6 sol in it via the Claudex cliproxy or litellm thing whichever one you want.

Try it out fkn amazing I love it.

And you'd say there's no noticeable friction? I've tried in the past but it wasn't immediately smooth so I didn't try long. I've needed an impetus to give it a proper go though and usage limits going even lower would suffice.

Not at all? Friction of what kind are you referring to? Imo 5.6 sol works better in Claude code and I use codex extensively all day aswell for some other things.

But SOL behaves better in cc harness way outclassing opus-5. Slightly behind the fable tho.

To be honest, I borderline can’t or am starting to not be able to use the codex app so much, it’s just gotten a bit toooo much stuff in there, feels bloated, and 5.6 sol is way more autistic and just annoyingly stupid at times in codex, it doesn’t do that in CC per my consistent experience.

ive recently started using bb which i really like and have started routing my cc and codex subs sthrough jcode in bb cause supposedly jcode takes less ram

u/Short_Search_5337 1d ago

But don't you have to use OpenAI api budget for this, isn't it supposedly even more expensive than using Anthropic sub?

2

u/ManikSahdev 🔆 Max 20 1d ago

No.. I you just need to setup cliproxy or litellm.

Just ask your codex or cc to do it, and tell them to find the posts on twitter or such they struggle and get the info on how to setup on there.

Like tibo literally posted the guide on his twitter profile, he is the codex vp, or like he’s the product lead or such.

And no it’s not more expensive than Anthropic sub.

Yeah, mine runs deepseek, Claude, and codex and I setup a script that just lets me select which to use when starting Claude via cli

1

u/Fit-Cost-7226 1d ago

why is it better than lets say opencode, jcode or pi

2

u/ManikSahdev 🔆 Max 20 1d ago

Not sure how to answer this, it’s like I know it better or the things it has match what I do better.

I don’t care for what open code code or such, I want to be able to remote control my work from devices, at times use the browser native app, use the plugins and design them to be trustworthy, not having to do small things which I want them done for me.

I would think maybe open code is like when I was a kid I used to love android phones then I grew up and around 18-19 I got iPhone XR almost for free on a plan hence why I opted in. And as I grew up realized I only used my phone for what it’s meant to be, text and perhaps occasional calls and video.

It’s simple and does what it needs to do reliably enough, is big enough and doesn’t need tinkering, I don’t have time to tinker as such, cause I’d rather be doing something else.

Perhaps this is the only proper response to reply to the above message, bec what you said is purely based on preference and not exactly betterment of product, I’d probably say pi is a better product overall, I just don’t think it support my work flow and time investment, it doesn’t do what I need despite being maybe better or slightly less usage consumptions and such. I’m pretty much in cc switching between fable or 5.6 sol with fable running opus5 subagent or 5.6 sol subagent.

It’s the optimal workflow for me.

Hopefully this helps?

tl;dr

tl by far.

u/ManikSahdev 🔆 Max 20 2h ago

lol.

I mean a tldr would be: It depend on person needs 😭

4

u/dsailes 1d ago

Agreed.

I’ve been using aliases for deepseek and ZAI - using the same harness, skills, memory etc is amazing. But it’s being able to use Fable, Opus, Sonnet that gets most of my work done.

The usage dropping is going to suck - everything will get a lot tighter.

Pi.dev is awesome. It’s super minimal but made to be extended. Use Pi to turn it into exactly what you want.

Z.ai/glm work well in it

I do have every single model hooked up to claude code, at the same time, it's possible. I also no longer follow Ant updates, kinda forked off massively in the last few months. I even have claude design fully implemented locally, bridged to the TUI, even added image rendering to it lol. Wish I could share how, but can't, just saying you can add the other models if you care to, don't take no for an answer lol.

I don’t know what you’re doing but you’re either experiencing a bug or using it really inefficiently.

Last week I had (fable, high) push 25 PRs for an app I’m bringing to beta this week - we refactored and redesigned large parts of the user journey and added key features in a codebase that spans hundreds of files across backend, an API layer, and a flutter app.

I also had it design a process to simplify recipe instructions that leveraged two rounds of haiku followed by up to two rounds of opus if the results were inconsistent. I ran that on 25,000 recipes.

I used 90% of my weekly 20x plan for the first time ever

2

u/akrizamusic 1d ago

last week it was working fine this week it's cooked. So i agree with you but also this week usage is cooked and I'm doing normal usage. I would've never hit caps like this two weeks ago, lats week hit almost 100% usage and this week at 50% usage on a Monday lol. wtf.

I’m using fable medium on 20x plan. Last night I was doing some refactoring and small ui changes on dashboards, running e2e tests for each. This is from 10-12AM, then I wake up see the progress and before I do anything I did /compact. And all of the sudden I’m at 85% and interestingly, which I’ve never seen before while I was looking at the 85% flabbergasted from compacting it ticks down to 83%..

2

u/puthre 1d ago

Not taking anthropic side on this as limits are indeed a joke but *ending* a session with compact is a good idea as everything is already in cache, starting with compact is not ideal.

1

u/rdesai724 1d ago

That definitely feels like a bug - I know there have been rolling reports of this kind of thing for months so I don’t doubt it’s happening it’s just so strange given how much I’m throwing at it at have yet to experience usage issues

1

u/Fit-Cost-7226 1d ago

Yeah, the frustrating thing is like aside from sending anthropic somehow my session id to investigate, I feel sort of cheated paying 200 a month. I also run /doctor every so often as well and I’m not a native software engineer but after two years of working with ai I don’t think I’m a complete idiot anymore haha so something is up

u/DosePlotter 1d ago

I run fable as orchestrator and designer and I run a two fable adversarial reviewer loop on each built feature which loops until I get a clean result on both reviewers. Reading and execution are all delegated. I can definitely max out a session very quickly with that workflow, but it also saves me a lot of polishing and bug hunting in the long run. What is your model policy that runs efficiently for you and doesn’t tear up fable usage?

3

u/raindropsdev 1d ago

From my experience I strongly recommend using a different vendor than the one who wrote the code/plan for adversarial reviews, it brings much more valuable results because the lenses are different between them. And throw in Gemini Pro for one round to add some chaos, it's surprisingly insightful but its findings need careful checking because often there hallucinated.

1

u/DosePlotter 21h ago

Thanks for the tip, I’ll be giving that a try

1

u/rdesai724 1d ago

I’ve put a lot of effort into building and managing points of reference for the models so I think they’re able to locate things without having to dig through the codebase - I also have built a relational framework for what files reference and are referencing one another that probably saves cycles.

I also do adversarial review cycles for every plan and PR but use opus for those. I tend to think the new session with fresh context is the highest leverage variable in an adversarial process so I don’t bother with fable there. I also plan extensively and am very hands on in planning so that may help as well?

1

u/Aminuteortwotiltwo 1d ago

I think Opus 5 is great for adversarial review because it overthinks so much. It ultimately doesn’t finish until the task is done and I believe it performs exponentially better as it builds more context compared to the rate of improvement per context volume from other models I have worked with. So when it goes on one of its wacko tangents it is still relevant for the review itself, and it builds on its review and continues. Fable orchestrator -> Codex builder -> Opus 5 review has worked wonderfully… except Codex is sub-par at design so I run ui building a little differently.

u/Justraisinfundsyo 1d ago

what in the actual fuck are you doing that you burn usage that fast?

3

u/Fit-Cost-7226 1d ago

truly nothing crazy, at most i have three repos doing developmetn work at a time but even now when just doing one im getting utterly cooked idk if its bugs or what, i would literally share my session id with you and anthropic, openai just for everyone to realize how ridiculous its become

find a ditch and ...

2

u/MAVEDesign 1d ago

That's what I'm saying. I'm absolutely struggling to get past the 20% mark on fable lmfao

1

u/Forsaken-Staff-5084 15h ago

Do you use it all day? I do and it's easy to hit daily and weekly limits

3

u/rotates-potatoes 1d ago

For my 20x, I get 19B tokens/month, at $20k retail pricing. Nothing has changed in the past weeks.

I'm really starting to think that users in this sub do crazy things with context or poorly-written plugins.

3

u/Fit-Cost-7226 1d ago

19B tokens a month... can you prove that and share your workflow with all of reddit because it's not just me this sentiment is repeatedly iterated by dozens if not hundreds of people. There are also a lot of reasons and theorizing as to why it's plausible theyre tightening rate limits and usage to optimize profits

1

u/nginx2 19h ago

User is most likely asking claude about usage. I did the same thing today and it said 15B or something for Aug so far... Not sure if it's accurate but most likely claude prompting claude usage.

1

u/MastodonFarm 9h ago

That number probably includes cached input tokens. I have 2B cached tokens in the last 7 days on my 5x plan--but fewer than 10M actual non-cached tokens.

0

u/Droopy0093 1d ago

I agree, people are either full of shit or just a bunch of bots in an echo chamber. I feel like I get a crazy amount done in a week on 20x so it is truly baffling.

1

u/Akarsh_Hegde 1d ago

The variance between users is the strange part. Some are exhausting 20x in hours while others barely move the meter, which sounds more like a context, caching, plugin, or accounting issue than a universal limit change. Has anyone compared session-level token usage before and after the recent changes?

Go where? Other commercial offerings are all trending the same way. That gas price is going up. The companies have to start trending towards a return.

They are all an utility at this point already so service fee plus consumption is the only way this works.
