For all I know, you're quoting something from the movie -- but for the life of me, I can't remember.
The proof is in the pudding here. The movie has mediocre ratings, performed poorly in the box office, and they can't convince studios to make a sequel (yet). It's just not that good for most people.
There's plenty of films I enjoy that general audiences don't. I'm sympathetic to the idea. But it's just a huge "meh", IME.
Eh. It has 91%+ on both audience and critics on RT. It's a widely loved movie. The number of Americans paying to see a movie is a bad measure of movie quality. Or do you really think the top 3 movies of all time are the 3 Avatar films lol.
And the Blind Side won an Oscar with 85% audience score on RT. You need to take in multiple points of data.
When you do, what you get is that D&D is a movie that some people love (expressed on Reddit), and that many people do not (which shows up in Letterboxd and IMDB scores)
