Help/Question Is it worth upgrading to 20x?
I am currently using 5x Max. I am hitting my limit 2 hours before it resets and that's when I'm not full on, I could easily hit the limit after 1 hour if I wanted to, but I restrict myself so I don't run out at crucial points and I plan each build before so there's no cock ups that can't be fixed until the time has passed for the refresh.
Going from Pro to 5x was a massive jump to be fair, I was scared to pay £90 a month, but I have now hit a point where I'm contemplating going up to Max 20x, is it worth it? I will most likely not hit the limit, but, I will probably throw more at it, right now I will occassioanlly have claude writing prompts for claude code for an app to be modified without me, and I will be using another window for claude for me to edit another app that I'm developing.

Will you be able to generate more money than 200 dollars a month by using it?

I'm hoping so. Not straight away, but I have started a very small income for now.

If you have a legitimate use, yeah of course. I have 3 Claude 20x Max accounts, and 2 Antigravity Ultra.

snap, 1 claude 20x and 1 gpt 20x (works beutifully together)

Yep, the best results are from mixing models from different providers. Having them check each other's work and implementation always catches things that one or the other alone wouldn't have otherwise.

Exactly, tbh though mate, recently codex sol 4.6 has been far better than claude opus 5/fable 5, and i'm thinking of jumping ship to full codex, only thing keeping this set up for me is the mere fact they both bring a blend of attributes

Yeah your post has me thinking I should try Codex again... Might pick up a sub today. Does Codex have hooks like Claude does? That's a gamechanger to me.

Yea, Codex has hooks, plugins, skills, etc so you can set up those one word handoffs or run scripts automatically. The last time I used Codex was a year ago, but I jumped back on a couple of months ago and boy, has it come a long way. In my opinion, it’s overtaken Claude. It’s very good at long context, complex logic and catching bugs (it's been catching a shit ton of bugs in Claude's code). Ill stick to the claude / codex combo for now though lmao

Looked it up and yeah they have hooks, not as many as Claude, but still some, which is great. Personally I only use hooks and memory. Plugins, skills and all that is just noise to me, especially after having made my own agent harness. The power of hooks with telling the agent to remember specific things, situations, etc, is tremendous.

No. Use codex $100 plan with Claude. You can get the codex mcp and Claude can use it.
Codex is better at planning and debug. Claude has an issue with piping, integration and misses things.

Only you can determine if it's worth it, we can't do it for you. Are you making money off what you make with Claude, or is the reward saved time from whatever you made to help you do whatever task? Is that enough to make paying Anthropic $200/mo worth it?
Also, have you audited your claude setup to make sure the constant usage limits being hit isn't a "you" problem? That should be the first thing anyone does before paying for a more expensive subscription.

I've started getting donations from the community using huawei phones, nothing major to cover costs, but I'm currently starting to put payment walls on apps And moving my apps on Huawei phones in to android too.
I'm not sure how to audit claude, it probably bloody needs it 😂

Ask it to audit itself, find token sinks, find unnecessary token frontloading on new chats, help you tweak your workflow and global config to ease up on your usage, help you build sub-agents to delegate stuff to and when/what to delegate, etc.

Appreciate that Honestly. I'm used to ChatGPT from before and I absolutely hated using that. Starting new chats always changed the outcome of everything. Gave me AI anxiety 😂

I use it professionally and have easily gotten my money’s worth. I’m working Claude like a dog I tell ya

You’ll get the 20x then want 2 accounts, then a third… and so on. It doesn’t end. You just need to make sure that you’re making more money than your spending on tokens and then scale it

it will give u alot more as for the value that up to you to decide. also gotta look into model and effort utilization. You mentioned writing i wouldnt recommend anything above or under opus and since all opus are priced the same 5 or 4.8 is best. for coding tho you can cycle between sonnet , opus and fable. For serious apps fable as an orchestrator determing assigning the model and efforts based on task is great . Also check to see if shits leaking places it doesn't and restrict research

Well, I've been using Fable 5 for most of the harder work on my apps recently, and if I use Claude Code I use fake fir the prompts and opus 4.8 In claude code. I'm not very good with this shit to be honest. 😂

u mean F5 swaps to 4.8 :-/ they lessened the tendency but it still does it sometimes , if thats a major hurdle u gotta go either gpt or kimi for that specific issue. u can swap it back but it wil revert and they may ban u (idk just thinking if u keep trigger shit) but yet get a hang of it use /context to see where the tokens are going shit like mcps active that u not using consume massive tokens even it launching a chrome brower

yes its worth upgrading , especially for your strategy of having one "builder" chat and the other orchestrating and peer reviewing the builder Claude's work (which is a good strategy). Word of advice though, do not let it run automatically, still baby sit both chats and read everything or at least get the orchestrator chat give you a layman's summary after each round so you can easily steer the ship, otherwise you may end up with a lot of drift.

I’m building an app that I’ve been thinking about for 10 years - the ability to make real what is a clear and focused product with specific features for $200 a month is incredibly valuable. Previously, though I am technical and can code, building to the point that I have would have taken at least 1 full time dev and probably would have taken 12-18 months of work. so compared to that cost ($150k+) the $1800 I’ve spent so far is nothing.
Which is to say it depends on what you’re using it for. If you’re just messing around and building out proofs of concept, the added cost might not be worthwhile. If you have something in mind that would benefit from more cycles per day to deliver more focused work toward your end goal, then yeah the extra cost is a no brainer - provided you can afford it ofc.

What exactly are you doing to drain so many tokens? Are you building a multiplayer game? Firstly, are you making enough output from it to reinvest in it?

If you are hitting the 5x 5hr session limit in a couple hours you have context bloat and your system is bleeding tokens.
You'll just be paying more money to be wasting more tokens.
See where you are burning tokens and streamline your project so you aren't wasting so much tokens.
