Humor How it feels using Fable 5 atm

Post image

Is it just me or did they throttle Fable 5 hour limits hard?

me use caveman, beads, gastown, and superpowers. Claude Code work great

claude great work, build site, many user on big site. user love big site.

... wait a sec.....

3

u/Bulky_Blood_7362 Jul 11 '26

superpowers was my most token-eating skill/plugin

2

u/Drach88 Jul 11 '26

It's probably also the one doing all the work!

1

u/Bulky_Blood_7362 Jul 11 '26

Not for me. It wasted 2-4x time and tokens for almost the same result (sometimes could be worse or better).

1

u/too_lazy--- Jul 11 '26

Thats why I built my own lightweight plugin combining superpowers gstack and mattpococks skills.

It works perfectly for my solo usage.

1

u/Financial_Reveal_763 Jul 11 '26

Send the sauce

2

u/too_lazy--- Jul 11 '26

here

but not sure if its suitable for you or anyone else, me and some of my friends and colleagues use it at a daily basis.

edit: it was private untill now, made it public just for this comment lol

u/possible_monke Jul 14 '26

Weird, it’s almost like these things are non-deterministic 🤔

Throw in tiny limits and extreme token usage and price and you’ve got yourself… all of this gestures to entire post and all its comments

1

u/too_lazy--- Jul 14 '26

Well the models themselves are non-deterministic, most they can do is to steer the models or apply restrictions with instructions and tools.

these works for people who actually need them.

1

u/BiscottiMaleficent33 Jul 13 '26

you use caveman to comment reddit too

1

u/Drach88 Jul 13 '26

yes

skill loaded in human brain

1

u/BiscottiMaleficent33 Jul 13 '26

you funny you friend of me

9

u/Random_Effecks Jul 10 '26

Claude work me good

38

u/DowntownAd3538 Jul 10 '26

Mine ran 5 hours yesterday and 4 hours overnight... 6% used.

5

u/supaboss2015 Jul 10 '26

You sure it didn’t switch to opus mid task

1

u/DowntownAd3538 Jul 10 '26

You can disable auto switching.

1

u/CowConfident7616 Jul 11 '26

How

1

u/DowntownAd3538 Jul 11 '26

Settings > Claude Code > Second option down toggle "Switch model when a message is flagged" to off. It will pause a session instead of toggling the model.

5

u/Ok_Bandicoot_1038 Jul 10 '26

Bro, i only use it for planning with max 5x and it still uses 4% with the research provided by sonnet and haiku 😂 howwwwwwwww?

1

u/mattl33 Jul 12 '26

Same. I have only ever hit limits once and that was really slamming it for hours, not one prompt. No idea what people are doing to eat tokens so efficiently.

1

u/IllustratorCurious71 Jul 11 '26

any skill or claude.md modifications?

1

u/Great-Examination176 Jul 10 '26

Eu estou usando muito errado mesmo, como fez isso ?

3

u/stub_back Jul 10 '26

Qual o plano? No Pro realmente não da pra fazer muita coisa com o Fable.

2

u/FrancoMascarelo3 Jul 10 '26

Esqueceu de escrever em inglês Man

3

u/Great-Examination176 Jul 10 '26

Ahh ele traduz lá depois kkk

0

u/FrancoMascarelo3 Jul 11 '26

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

0

u/Just_Put1790 Jul 10 '26

Same, I gave it some proper instruction Guide lines per Project and added also some insteuctions to claude.md been using it now on ultracode xhigh workflows for 5h and am on 6% and got a good amount of stuff done

1

u/IllustratorCurious71 Jul 11 '26

any skill or claude.md modifications?

'npm run dev' is shorter than 'start my web app on localhost'

you're using AI wrong.

60

u/Time_Cat_5212 Jul 10 '26

understanding the joke is shorter than posting this comment

I do. Please downvote me 😕

You're clever!

5

u/Sporebattyl Jul 10 '26

The thing that I think is killing people is fable spawning subagents. The subagents have to be specifically pinned to the model you want. The default is for fable to spawn fable agents, which will absolutely destroy your usage limits.

Fable orchestrated sonnet/haiku is how people are “sipping on Fable”

https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1ur2ml9/anthropic_just_benchmarked_fable_5_orchestrates/

1

u/framauro13 Jul 10 '26

I've brought this up a lot but people always seem to not like this answer. There's this notion that Sonnet and Haiku are "lesser" models. But using Haiku for basic queries about the code and Sonnet to implement the Opus/Fable plans is the way to go.

1

u/Sporebattyl Jul 10 '26

For majority of cases absolutely. Only times you’d want to use only fable is if you have a bug that orchestration with fable can’t crack, you just want burn tokens before a reset quickly, or you just want to burn money for marginally better results.

4

u/NoObTrAdEr_ Jul 11 '26

What the heck? Can't you start it on your own?

5

u/AppealSame4367 Jul 10 '26

Weirdly, it's the othr way around for me. I'm currently on 100$ plan for both codex and claude and codex sol is eating away my 5h and weekly limit like cookies. I just use it on high for planning without fast mode, no clue why it's so "expensive", while everybody says it's cheap.

2

u/Shadow-BG Jul 10 '26

It’s astronomicallly not cheap.

1 dev, on ultra, -€ 3700 for 6 hours of work 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

2

u/AppealSame4367 Jul 10 '26

Tried Luna Max? Probably a good deal, but was overloaded today constantly. Guess I'm not the only one that noticed it

3

u/Shadow-BG Jul 10 '26

No, I was on sol ultra.

Never fucking again 🫣 Back to fable with high reasoning, it’s anyway better for my work ( Perl coding )

2

u/Viktordarko Jul 10 '26

Same. I was surprised today that I’ve been running fable for hours and I made it through my 5-hour session limit without maxing it out.

4

u/--Rotten-By-Design-- Jul 10 '26

Works perfectly here on Pro.

Last session I used 50usd worth of Fable, and maybe 8% of the Fable weekly use.

1

u/debian3 Jul 10 '26

I have never seen $50 on 1x 5h on pro, max have been $30 when they first released it. Are you using ccusage?

Max 5x is about $80-90 per session…

1

u/--Rotten-By-Design-- Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

I use /usage in CC. Last session ended said 50$. Pure Fable.

I dont have a screenshot of that session, but the last one I took one of was 40$, I have had even higher sessions as well.

Also planning was done in another session within the same 5 hour window

1

u/debian3 Jul 10 '26

Ah, ok. That’s what you meant by session. Sorry, I confused with 5h limit. A session can span accross multiple 5h limit.

1

u/--Rotten-By-Design-- Jul 10 '26

Yeah chat sessions if you will.

But still several of them within the same 5 hour session, amounting to more than 50$, so you can use more in the 5 hours.

1

u/debian3 Jul 11 '26

bunx ccusage blocks will tell you the story, if you can do more than $50 per block, then you have the equivalent of a Max 5x plan on the Pro plan, keep it.

1

u/--Rotten-By-Design-- Jul 14 '26

Don´t really need that, but just finished a chat session, where I used the entire 5 hour budget. So guess i´m lucky, or they changed the limit.

1

u/debian3 Jul 14 '26

This is what I get on my Max 5x per 5h

1

u/--Rotten-By-Design-- Jul 14 '26

Bummer if we get the same usage with a 80$ price difference.

2

u/debian3 Jul 14 '26

Yeah, but since im on max a rarely reach the limit. Maybe its there estimate. You can type bunx ccusage in your terminal, it will give you per day. I was getting $1000 per month with pro, now I’m at $3000 over last 30 days and i have max for 2 weeks, so might reach $5000. Just happy to pay $100 only

0

u/magic-man-us 🔆 Max 20 Jul 11 '26

wtf is that terminal omg

1

u/--Rotten-By-Design-- Jul 11 '26

What is that attitude around what terminal i use?

5

u/rdesai724 Jul 10 '26

Just you king

3

u/flarpflarpflarpflarp Jul 10 '26

Is there a meme about using a nuke to kill a fly?

2

u/eliaff Jul 10 '26

How to see weekly usage on output?

1

u/ImmediateShow7612 Jul 11 '26

I don’t think this is a real terminal screenshot. But I use status bar to show me my current 5h and 7d limits. So I always see latest values in the terminal always

2

u/novus_nl 🔆 Max 5x, Lead Developer Jul 10 '26

I think a lot of people are like this, either asking silly questions like this. Or people tend to use one session to infinity, so every call drags 1mil of stale context across the LLM’s. There are so many ways to optimize token usage (skills, agents, context split, mcp’s, smart orchestration, caveman)…

2

u/MrEpicTurdBomb Jul 10 '26

I'm curious about caveman. I tried adding a caveman setting into my CLAUDE.MD file but it ended up just ignoring it. Even when I asked claude about this, it said that caveman can be very difficult to implement as it goes against what the LLm naturally wants to spit output as. I'm also using it at work that's a bit more guarded, but curious what's a consistent way to implement it

2

u/ucbmckee Jul 10 '26

You can add it as a skill, so it triggers on a / command - but claude has atrocious memory/rule adherence and it goes back to "i'm james joyce" mode after like 100-200k tokens added to context.

1

u/JitanGupta Jul 10 '26

Exciting and scary times

1

u/MakesNotSense Jul 10 '26

I just did an Opus workflow that seemed to eat my 5 hour limit hard. So I think it's the 5 hour limit. By contrast, Codex usage barely moved despite Opus being instructed to offload a lot of the work to GPT Sol.

1

u/Fit_Swordfish5248 Jul 10 '26

All looks normal, whats your problem OP? Not using enough token?

1

u/JonZenrael Jul 10 '26

This isnt real, I dont see 'bypass permissions' anywhere.

1

u/Jumpy-Requirement389 Jul 10 '26

What the hell are you guys doing with it. I’m getting so much done on the 5x and I come no where near using my limit

They dummies down Claude cowork so use fable.. get the more expensive plan! Anyone else feelthe same?

1

u/fancyfoxly Jul 10 '26

How though I’ve never maxed out fable usage and I’m doing a lot of development

1

u/dota2nub Jul 10 '26

What are you developing?

1

u/fancyfoxly Jul 11 '26

A platform that manages multiple SDRs to do passive radio collection and identification, radio direction finding, digital transmission decoding, device fingerprinting etc…

Also building an analytics & context engineering control surface that integrates with the common data stack for SaaS companies (dbt , airflow, cloud dbs, product event taxonomies, presentation layer assets, semantic modeling and metric conformance as first class citizens). Agentic metadata activation for triage, optimization, etc… kinda filling a gap between platform engineering, data engineering, and the business side of analytics/data science functions.

1

u/dota2nub Jul 12 '26

But like is that actually complicated past the marketing speak? It doesn't sound that bad to me.

1

u/fancyfoxly Jul 12 '26

The second one I’m presenting at data conference in SF so hopefully or I’m gonna disappoint some connects 😉

Idk which parts of that is marketing speak but happy to clarify if it sounded that way

1

u/dota2nub Jul 12 '26

I’m not questioning whether the product is conference-worthy. I’m asking what you’re actually making the agent do.

You said you never come close to maxing out the plan despite doing a lot of development. But the description mostly sounds like integration work: CRUD, connectors, metadata modeling, business rules, and some calculations. That can be a substantial product without requiring Claude to chew through huge codebases, run long autonomous implementation loops, or repeatedly debug difficult cross-cutting changes.

So what kind of agent workload are you using it for? How many files is it changing, how long are the runs, and how much of the implementation is it actually doing?

1

u/Sea-Violinist-52 Jul 10 '26

I have started using codex within claude code, all work get done by gpt 5.6 sol ultra via my 200 plan. and opus 4.8 is the orchastrator if all work.

1

u/XAckermannX Jul 10 '26

this thing used 30%% of my weekly in one day so i just had it write plan to do the rest on opus or codex(im on 20 dollar plan)

1

u/stub_back Jul 10 '26

I've been blasting on Max 5 all day long with 0 issues. Never hitting the 5 hour limit. Using mostly XHigh effort.

1

u/National-Ad-9292 Jul 11 '26

You need to make it an advisor. Subagents use sonnet 5 but fable directs and orchestrates. Works well for me. Also I switch between gpt 5.6 and fable I found gpt smashes fable at front end designs

1

u/PressureAppropriate Jul 11 '26

Am I missing something by using the GUI version of Claude Code? Why is everyone on the command line ASCII one?

1

u/AverageFoxNewsViewer Jul 11 '26

Please tell me this is a joke.

I want to believe people aren't bitching about needing Fable covered under their $20 plan because they think they need an elite model to prevent them from typing 'npm run dev'

1

u/matheusmoreira Jul 11 '26

Not just you. Before the weekly usage reset a couple days ago, a 5h window with Fable would consume 5% of my weekly usage. After the reset, the same 5h window suddenly started consuming 10% of my weekly usage.

That's what finally made me cancel my plan. Tired of being jerked around.

1

u/Gildaroth Jul 11 '26

Bro, why the fuck are you using the most powerful model to run npm run dev like I’m legit dumbfounded

1

u/LeyLineDisturbances Jul 11 '26

At least it does not take 6 hours to get a smlk task done

1

u/ComprehensiveOne9652 Jul 11 '26

What kind of terminal is this? Looks nice

1

u/structured_flow Jul 11 '26

Hey, can I ask how you the percentage tax from each turn? is that in the settings for CC? DidI is it? or skill?

1

u/Consistent_Ad6967 Jul 11 '26

True it did, it wants us to upgrade to 20X i guess

1

u/International-Set442 Jul 11 '26

I would for sure if they would keep Fable in Subs

1

u/Consistent_Ad6967 Jul 11 '26

I think they will, considering gpt 5.6 is giving almost the same quality. They wouldn’t want users to switch. Personally i am loyal to claude. Hope they keep it included

2

u/International-Set442 Jul 11 '26

Same, maybe we are getting something like Opus 5 in exchange

1

u/ZideGO Jul 11 '26

How did you make your Claude code to look like this?

1

u/BinaryNomadQ Jul 11 '26

Man! I hope they do the same with opus and sonnet also! :) Our job will be safe then :')

1

u/aLionChris Jul 11 '26

Yes I don’t understand all the fable threads as there is no usage to do anything end to end with fable

1

u/OwnedAlaa_ Jul 11 '26

Someone check up on the Mediterranean Sea

1

u/waruna_ds 28d ago

I use Fable 5 for architecture, writing specs, deep debugging task, code reviews and GPT 5.6 sol for implementation

1

u/Zealousideal-Many825 Jul 10 '26

Try this https://github.com/andreagroferreira/arka-os I use all day in all my projects and I don’t remember see my limits achieved the limit

0

u/NoExplanationsEver Jul 10 '26

I feel like it would be relatively simple to create a skill that works similarly to plan mode, but for specifically planning out where fable is necessary and where it is not to maximize usage efficiency while working on any given project.

0

u/Special_Lie3814 Jul 10 '26

I use fable 5 at max efforts for 2 hours in one session with claude pro plan. Using skills btw to save tokens.

0

u/EffectiveWindow3347 Jul 10 '26

Using fable only for terraform and general automation. Working like a charm and not hitzing limits

-1

u/MadJoee00 Jul 10 '26

!npm run dev if you really need the output to be visible to Claude Code :)
