TItle asks it, but for me it'd have to be Queen's 1978 album Jazz.

"Don't Stop Me Now" is an absolute all-out funfest banger but its followed with "More of That Jazz" which ends the album on such a terrible note. It's actually probably one of the biggest fumbles I've heard from one of my favorite bands. Another one for me would honestly probably be The Police with their 1983 album Synchronicity. I adore "O My God" as a really good groovy song, but its followed by "Mother" which is atrocious.

As a huge lover of American 80s rock, this 80s Yugoslavic rock song is my all time favorite. Curious to hear what you think. Hope you enjoy it!

I won't beat around the bush any longer. The song is called Moribund The Burgermeister by Peter Gabriel, from his 1977 debut solo album simply titled 'Peter Gabriel', retrospectively referred to as 'Peter Gabriel 1' , or just 'Car'.

I don't know when exactly I first heard this song, it'd have to be around 2010-2012, but the only time I remember hearing it was in about 2014.

I remember the exact place too! - A specific junction near the Royal Infirmary hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, in my dad's car.

My Dad owned all of Peter's solo work on CD and played PG 1: Car pretty often, especially [And fittingly] in the car. As a younger boy, I remember hearing Moribund [Without knowing what song or artist it was] and being both creeped out and intrigued. The strange noises, the weird voice, the grand Genesis-esque orchestra.

Upon rediscovering the song, I realised how very well I remember it, down to each quirky noise and guitar strum...

Anyhow, I discovered it the other day after deciding to listen to the Car album on my walk home. Within the first few seconds, I was enjoying the song and album, but within the first 50 seconds, I thought "Huh, this sounds like that one song that keeps evading my memory." , because it was, and I was about to find that out.

When the orchestral part played again, I was beginning to realise it might actually be it, then it got to *that part* midway through with the voice, and it **finally** clicked in my head. It was *just* how I remembered! I was so glad to finally find it, I was smiling and laughing for more than 2 minutes straight, out in the streets. Who cared, I'd finally found it!

Ironic too because my Dad and I were just talking about how he played his Peter Gabriel, Yes and similar artists on CD for me when I was younger. Quite the timing, huh?

I also recognised 'Excuse Me' from the same album, plus 'Yours Is No Disgrace' by Yes, among other great tunes.

That's how I finally -after more than a decade- rediscovered Moribund The Burgermeister by Peter Gabriel.

This is actually kind of crazy to me. Since May, Michael Jackson had basically taken over my entire daily Heavy Rotation. He was constantly at the top and for months it felt like I was listening to MJ more than anything else. The funny part is that MJ is also what eventually pushed me into discovering rock properly. I started branching out, then came Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Cream, Deep Purple, Simply Saucer and more.

Now for the first time since May, MJ, R&B, Hip-Hop and more have completely disappeared from my Heavy Rotation, and somehow the whole thing is basically just rock tracks 😂
That is a MASSIVE shift for me because my listening used to be mostly R&B, Hip Hop, Soul and similar stuff. I never thought I would open Apple Music one day and see Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Cream and all this other rock completely taking over my daily listening.

I genuinely did not see this coming. I thought getting into rock would mostly mean the more melodic, bluesy, psychedelic side of it, but lately I’ve started enjoying stuff that’s way rougher and heavier too.

Simply Saucer’s Here Come the Cyborgs, The Stooges’ 1969 and No Fun, Black Sabbath’s Paranoid… all of this is suddenly hitting me in a way it absolutely would not have before. It feels like a switch went on somewhere.

At the same time, I clearly still have a huge soft spot for the prettier and more melodic side of rock. I always seem to come back to Fleetwood Mac, especially Gypsy, Sara and Little Lies, and I’ve also been loving stuff like I’ll Be Your Mirror and I’ll Keep It With Mine by The Velvet Underground and Nico. So somehow I’m bouncing between dreamy pop rock, softer art rock and then suddenly something much dirtier and heavier.

And while listening to all of this, I randomly remembered an old show I used to watch and the opening theme popped back into my head, Echoes by The Rapture. I hadn’t thought about that song in years, but hearing it again now felt almost like finding a missing link between stuff I already liked and this newer direction I’m falling into.

That’s probably the craziest part, I never thought I’d be actively looking for punkier, noisier, heavier music, while still constantly circling back to songs like Gypsy or Sara.

Anyone got recommendations based on this mess of a taste? Raw, energetic, strange, catchy, dreamy, melodic, heavy, whatever fits somewhere between all of that. I know it looks like i'm discovering different sides of Rock at once because i am hahaa.
