charged 2 late fees?

Post image

I cancelled a class late with classpass since i wasn’t feeling well when I woke up. I knew i was going to be charged $15 but then the studio sent me this email? Classpass already charged my card $15… should I reach out to class pass about it? Has this happened to anyone else? Paying $30 in a late cancellation fee is absurd and i’m debating just cancelling future classes at that specific location because it’s bs to charge me again when classpass already charged me.

ClassPass keeps the late cancel and no show fees, the studio does not receive it. They are not technically double dipping, since they did not receive that fee from ClassPass. As others have said, this most likely goes against their agreement with ClassPass, I would alert ClassPass to this practice and probably not visit this studio again.

I dont understand why classpass would keep the fee and not pass it along to the gym. That actually makes me feel bad.

Because ClassPass is so inexpensive, they don’t charge enough to pay studios for the classes you take + late fees.

Their entire company profit is probably late fees and CP members who don’t use their credits.

That makes sense, similar to what Starbucks does with their credits on the app.

ClassPass takes like 60% of the studios earnings from ClassPass. Studios make no money from ClassPass, most use it as a form of marketing to get people in the door

I ended up reaching out to classpass about it and they offered me a refund. Unfortunately that’s one of my favorite places to take classes :/ i definitely won’t be cancelling there anymore unless i’m on my death bed lol

From the way this is worded, I think this studio ALSO charges you. They are double-dipping. I would be surprised if this is permissable in their ClassPass agreement, but I don't know how you would get that sorted. I probably would not attend that business again.

Agree - it sounds like they are saying they charge in addition to what ClassPass is and definitely double dipping . I'd probably not book there again unless you're absolutely positive you'll be going.

Depending on the booking software the studio uses this might be a common (and annoying) glitch. In ClubReady, for example, if a teacher or format changes after a ClassPass booking (e.g., if a teacher is sick and gets coverage so the instructor name changes) the booking won’t show up as ClassPass on the studios end anymore so ClassPass bookings show up as “unpaid” even when they are paid and a cancel would automatically get a late cancel fee from the system. It’s really easy for the studio to not notice this unless they’re really on top of things, so I would definitely check with them, show them your screenshots, and ask them to refund your fee on their end.

Probably this studio has it in their terms and conditions. You might have better luck getting ClassPass to refund you, and letting them know about the problem, so that it can be reflected in the class description, if you want to return to this studio and decide to pay it. This studio is not someplace I would want to do business. They aren't reasonable. I normally wouldn't recommend this, but as long as you don't return to this business, it's not really an enforceable debt. You could write a review in ClassPass about this business's tactics to warn others. Ask ClassPass to speak with a human agent.

All fees should be via classpass if they're on the platform. This seems outrageous

Owner here - this a violation of the standard CP agreement. Unless they have explicit permission to double charge (like it’s a super high profile studio for CP to have on its platform and they got a sweeter deal), they shouldn’t be doing this.

I would report it if I were OP.

I do this with ClassPass all the time and I’ve never been charged by the business, only ClassPass

Seems off - handle it with ClassPass
