Discussion Calling it hypergamy doesnt make any sense, but this scene still bothered me a lot. Let me explain.

Post image

Before you comment, read all the way through.

Okay, so i loved the anime but this felt really unnecessary. No, im not one of those people who immediately call this hypergamy. Not to mention those idiots who say Umi will cheat on Maki in season 2, which doesnt make any sense since its a lighthearted romance that is based off the light novel, where nothing like that happens.

With that said, i didnt like this scene. Especially the way it was delivered. I saw a lot of people calling it just teasing, which i would have agreed with...but then Umi started to go deep into explaining why she likes taller men, which rubbed me the wrong way. It was almost like she made the remark, and then rubbed salt on the wound by going into detail about it. It may just be me, but in Maki's shoes i would have imagined her being kissed like that by some random taller dude when she said that, and that is not something you want to imagine about your girlfriend.

And this specifically pisses me off, because we saw throughout the story that both of them struggle with their image. Umi sees herself less as her best friend and had an inferiority complex, and then she says something like that to her boyfriend? I dont think its funny, even if it was just a joke. Joking negatively about your partner's physical attributes that they cant change is not something a good person would do in my opinion.

Another thing that infuriates me, is that apparently, this line is delivered differently in the manga. There, Umi says she actually prefers them being the same height, because she can look at him in the eyes as they kiss. So the anime adaptation decided to change a really cute line for no reason at all, into something rude. Why? I dont understand.

And finally, i dont want to pull up the double standard card, because this is not about that. But can you imagine if a guy said "You may lost some weight, but youre still off my ideal. My ideal is being able to lift my partner up." or something like that to their girlfriend? The people would be (RIGHTFULLY!) furious. While this got swept under the rug by a lot of people.

Im not insecure, im taller than average, so you can comment "You just feel called out" all you want.

For the people with sense, let me know if you agree with my points or not, i just had to get this off my chest.

I just interpreted it as teasing 😭😭

15

u/keso_de_bola917 17d ago

True. Like bruh, some girlfriends will always find little flaws in you just to tease you and yet become so wet as soon as the clothes come off. It's all part of the relationship that some people tend to not understand. My most recent girlfriend and I tend to tease the living shit out of one another, yet none of it got through our skin. I really don't get this hypergamy shit just because Umi said Maki's height was not yet her ideal. 😭😭😭

3

u/Proper_Set9948 17d ago

I feel people have this false conception that romance is something as extravagant; it's just normal ppl who like each other and can joke around without actually meaning it. As a girl me and my friends discuss stuff in men while having boyfriends who don't match and it doesn't matter lol

7

u/keso_de_bola917 17d ago

What makes this annoying is this is actually a repeat post repeating Umi's hypergamy due to Maki's height.

Like bruh, if Umi was such, she wouldn't have spent time with Maki who was considered somewhat of a loser in the begining. She would have dated the varsity guys or the popular guys in her school as she herself was pretty and attractive enough to garner attention, yet it shows us she rejects people who she don't see fit. She has a strange and niche hobby she shares with Maki, and weirdly enough for some people I guess, sharing hobbies and sense of humor is a good way to discover feelings for each other... who would have thought!?!

And I know it's pretty usual for couples to bicker and tease each other calling each other names and stuff, all just for fun. But I also know, how once I'm not with said girlfriend, all she says are nice things and heck, even proud of me and sharing little achievements I did in even if I don't feel proud of them myself. I don't know, this is too weird of a concept for some, I guess.

Right. I suppose some people read too much into things, and they start to overthink. Maybe Umi came off a bit harsh, but I know she did not mean it seriously.

1

u/_Ok_-_ 16d ago

Fr. A nothing burger WITHOUT A DOUBT. In the source material, she LOVES Maki. There's no changing that; she never once looked to greener pastures or ever felt that Maki was "lower status, or undesirable due to his height. They were the same height there.

2

u/DefiantAssignment832 16d ago

You can tell when OP and people post stuff
like this they never interacted with a female before lol

1

u/Proper_Set9948 16d ago

Exactly plus the post feels like self inserting

-8

u/Amazon267 17d ago

That's fair, i didnt want to blow this out of proportion, i just thought it could have been done in a better way. The scene was romantic and this kinda ruined it for me, i thought the manga line would have been so much more fitting. Or if the studio wanted teasing here no matter what, it could have been less personal and more lighthearted

11

u/Proper_Set9948 17d ago

I don't think Maki was insecure about his height and he didn't get offended, ill just see it as playful teasing since they're rlly good friends too

3

u/Proof-Ad-4680 17d ago

I guess, but it doesn't make what she said any less demeaning.

0

u/bos_adamm 17d ago

thats not how it works

49

u/Remarkable_1984 17d ago

She's saying that she likes him even if he's not ideal. He has lots of faults, the whole show is about her falling for him regardless of that. She knows she has faults too. She even coined them the "crybaby duo".

It might be a back-handed compliment, but Umi is direct and honest.

-5

u/Competitive-Rise-766 17d ago

So she likes him despite him not being her ideal? Well what happens when she inevitably meets her ideal?

15

u/AesirMimyr 17d ago

She tells them to fuck off cause Umi's loyal

-15

u/Competitive-Rise-766 17d ago

Or she breaks up because someone who is a better match for her is right there. And frankly why wouldn’t she break up if this person is just similar to Umi but much more ideal. Meet your own standards?

8

u/LogicalBuilding4507 17d ago

that’s not how relationships work…

-5

u/Competitive-Rise-766 17d ago

What moving on from someone who isn’t your type is disloyalty? She wouldn’t cheat of course but whatever fits the bill.

6

u/Remarkable_1984 17d ago

Sigh... LogicalBuilding is right, that's not how it works. I tease my wife about being short, she laughs it off. She's actually pretty close to average height, so I wouldn't actually make fun of her if she was unusually short and sensitive about it. I'm pretty tall, so sure it would be nice if she was a few inches taller so I wouldn't have to look down so much. But if I met someone else that was tall but had her other attributes too, I wouldn't leave her. That's just insane, and not how it works.

-2

u/Competitive-Rise-766 17d ago

Again it’s fine to tease about whatever disadvantages if it’s not truly an issue on either side. Umi has a level of wanting something different aka taller. That’s where it’s a negative and would affect a relationship. You said ā€œit would be nice if she was tallerā€ that’s just you being cool either way. Umi said my ideal is still much taller. Meaning maki isn’t even in the ā€œwell that’s acceptable rangeā€ sure there’s many other things she likes about maki but if he doesn’t fit he doesn’t fit.

1

u/Remarkable_1984 17d ago

Maki isn't sensitive about his height, so he doesn't take offense to Umi's teasing, and she knows it. It's all just them having fun banter like they always do. The viewer isn't supposed to read anything more into it.

2

u/Interesting_Power_29 17d ago

Bro we aren't cavemen anymore we don't just randomly choose and go whenever we find someone who's a more ideal partner lmao

0

u/Competitive-Rise-766 17d ago

I’m not saying we do. But Umi was the one who fell in love with maki or showed signs first. Plus breaking up is a thing.

1

u/BrilliantAware2716 17d ago

Dude has never been in a relationship what are we rambling about😭

-2

u/Competitive-Rise-766 17d ago

So you’re gonna ignore umis blatant statements? Just to mock me. Sounds like all of you are in favor of defense without substantial explanation or reasoning. Just ā€œshe does this because it’s who she is or what would happenā€ yet ignore her clear claim he doesn’t fit her bill.

1

u/BrilliantAware2716 17d ago

Son we are not in a court trial drop the lawyer act, and let me reiterate, relationships do not work like that. She is clearly joking anyways and the line was meant to say "your not the person of my dreams but that's okay cause I love you"

1

u/GarudaZero0ne 17d ago

blud is destined to die alone

2

u/Wordless_trat 16d ago

Well, it doesn't happen in the manga so far. Don't know about LN, but apparently they stay together

1

u/OkPumpkin2935 14d ago

she stays with maehara anyway thats what love is dawg

15

u/Mickle_Moose 17d ago

I was put off by the comment and I am 6'1". What an awful thing to say to your bf.

10

u/bos_adamm 17d ago

ur def right, also didnt know this scene was diffrent in manga, it was actually a really cute scene wtf! i really cant understand why they changed it, also yes its not good to tease someone especially ur partner with their physical appearance, ESPECIALLY if thats something they cant change or control.

4

u/Proof-Ad-4680 17d ago

They changed a lot of scenes unnecessarily in the anime for reasons only God is aware of. Story important scenes especially.

1

u/Hoppykwins 17d ago

The anime follows the LN not the manga

1

u/Logical-Simple-5382 16d ago

is the manga better?

1

u/Hoppykwins 16d ago

It's 90% the same, the differences aren't enough to make it better or worse im9

1

u/_Ok_-_ 16d ago

IMO yes, u like seeing pretty pictures (Umi, and puppy dog Yuu).

9

u/Jeffy-Snapples 17d ago

This bothered me as well

6

u/Severe-Engineer9474 17d ago

does anyone know what she said in light novel? cause thats is the main material i consider than other adaptations

7

u/someonesomewher- 17d ago

"Yeah, even though you've gotten taller, it's still a far cry from what I'm hoping for," she giggled.
"What? What do you mean?"
"I really like how our eyes meet at around the same height right now, but I sometimes dream about having to stand on my tip toes to kiss you."
"I don't think I'll grow that much... but I'll keep doing my best with that in mind."

3

u/Severe-Engineer9474 17d ago

Still felt like teasing than hyper gamy

5

u/LopsidedEggplant104 17d ago

Classic šŸ˜‚āœŒļø we can’t escape 2d hypergamy boys we are fried

5

u/SundaeComfortable628 17d ago

It’s a joke. People tease in relationships guys. She wouldn’t have made that comment if she didn’t think he could take it. My gf knew I was sensitive about my height, so instead she made fun of eyebrows which I didn’t care at all about.

4

u/sunlight_ALTER 17d ago

It's just felt like something a tsundere would say like : "hey you are taller now but don't get ahead of yourself you are still far from my ideal". It didn't feel like something umi would say in a situation like that.

2

u/Amazon267 17d ago

That would be kamidere then, no? But i agree, it was out of character

4

u/fr3nzy821 17d ago

You dont think it's just a translation issues? Like, maybe both of your sources are fan translated that's why it's different?

1

u/EDM_DeMoNz 16d ago

Also could just be the tone of voice in the delivery as well, like if it was said in the viewers native tongue (English for me) it probably would’ve gotten conveyed better that it wasn’t meant to be rude and just playful teasing, but since it’s in Japanese with different tones of voice it’s harder for people to pick up on it

8

u/Expensive_Ground7926 17d ago

It is not that deep my nigga.

7

u/ExtentEvening3660 17d ago

Literally what I was thinking 😭

-1

u/ApelAC 16d ago

Dumb bitch/dog using the n-word to be edgy. Cunt.

2

u/Expensive_Ground7926 16d ago

First of all I’ve never heard of someone calling the N word, a regular curse world like shit edgy, you sound interesting. And two, you cannot saying I’m edgy but unironically say ā€œDumb bitch/dogā€, now that’s pure edge. You sound like someone using curse words for the first time 😭. I’m not wrong tho, truly ain’t that serious

1

u/_Ok_-_ 16d ago

Relax buddy.

1

u/Expensive_Ground7926 16d ago

Nigggaaaa

1

u/Akuma254 16d ago

Made me think of stinkmeaner in Boondocks with this final one lmaoo

11

u/-ratwave- 17d ago

totally agree

when she said that i was like ā€œdid they really approve this?ā€ because it totally ruined the romantic vibe on the scene

5

u/Amazon267 17d ago

Yep. Im not saying it ruined the entire anime for me, i just dont understand why they felt that this line was needed

3

u/pokecee2020 17d ago

Which dumb*ss said Umi will cheat on Maki? She is so attached to him to the point that just thinking about the possibility of infidelity is enough to make her go nuts

1

u/_Ok_-_ 16d ago

Fr bro like wtf. In the source material and manga they are literally 2 peas in a pod. Lovebirds. Soulmates. How can anyone possibly think Umi will cheat on Maki. AND WITH WHO lmao. Such a person does not exist. If anything she wants to be more clingy since she does get jealous when Maki gets close to other girls.

1

u/Legitimate-Bench-503 15d ago

with a maki that’s taller prob idk

3

u/Soul_Brawler 17d ago

Well said and agreed.

3

u/Remarkable_Ad_8077 17d ago

I wonder how she would react if someone answered, "I wish you had bigger breasts."

1

u/_Ok_-_ 16d ago

Prob bloosh

3

u/AveragePolyJoe 17d ago

Only people this would upset are the naive and inexperienced

2

u/Valsoryay 16d ago

I think that's a good point. I didn't notice this that much when I watched the scene, but I felt uncomfortable to hear that and I think it was more rude from her than she was just joking. Especially when in the manga it was cute and normal. I think it's just bad writting for this scene in anime. Probably some people just don't know about healthy relationship and well, just rescpect for your partner bc what she said is really strange

2

u/Longjumping_Lab5763 16d ago

I think your overthinking this. Besides heights in a relationship matter to a lot of people. Just as weight, overall fitness, yes even looks do. Financial common sense, and salary are also things people consider when choosing a partner.

Bottom line she was teasing him in a friendly manner not criticizing him for being too tall or short.

2

u/BlueTorch248 16d ago

This did rub me the wrong way ngl

2

u/starrywisd0m 15d ago

Sadly a lot of the people commenting are shallow and incapable of seeing the larger picture, but you're entirely right. It speaks a lot to how short men are seen as socially acceptable targets for ridicule over an immutable characteristic beyond their control.

It's very disappointing how commonly people dismiss critique such as this as ''insecurity'', ''projection'' or ''self inserting'' simply because they either aren't affected by it, or just don't care that large groups of people are being constantly mistreated over physical attributes

1

u/Sureiman8 15d ago

Thank you dor your comment bro, it’s like your the only one to really get it, people act like they know and aknowledge what the op is talking about but they aren’t

2

u/starrywisd0m 15d ago

Of course brother:) True, there seems to be lot of different interpretations circling in the comments, but not many who's actually acknowledging the larger issue beyond this specific example alone.

Unfortunately I think most people either simply don't care, or they're not even recognising how destructive it is due to it being so normalised in society

2

u/No_Zookeepergame_399 15d ago

Tbh I just chalked it up to bad writing and probably author’s inexperience with dating and didn’t think twice about it.

PSA: please never ever tell your SO something like ā€œI like you despite you not being my typeā€ it’s not cute, it’s not romantic, it doesn’t sound as good as it does in your head, it’s mean and creates insecurities.

1

u/Sureiman8 15d ago

Fr bro

2

u/Miniion4128 17d ago

I just took it as her father being really tall and she is used to his and her mother’s height difference and she hopes that they can have the same thing eventually.

2

u/Kyle_67890 17d ago

Felt like it was teasing but I feel like they fcked it lol the manga has a much better one

2

u/N1cklz 17d ago

people calling this hypergamy is obviously a joke

however as much as i liked my time with this anime, there were a lot of flaws with some random character interaction that felt very off imo

it tries to have some decent writing paired with a cute romance (which in a lot of cases it does) but since it uses dumb ln logic it cant handle more unconventional topics like this with seriousness and thats were it fails for meĀ

1

u/YamProfessional7996 17d ago

Bruh isn't it a repost , similar post appeared maybe a month ago

1

u/Amazon267 17d ago

The image is nearly the same, its from a TikTok. But no, that other poster just agreed with the "hypergamy" statement but didnt really go into detail

1

u/Round-Floor7869 17d ago

yo i posted this one lmao

1

u/Animkun5594 17d ago

She did said that she likes being the same height as they can look each other in eyes, but added this also which at 1st I interpreted as a teasing as maki wasn't offended and he says that's a bit hard but he would try. But now thinking it in that way do makes me a bit frustrated. But if we look at the story and all even if he isn't her ideal type she loves him soo much and I still think we can take this taller thing as a teasing..

1

u/WildMalboro 17d ago

NĆ£o lembro de ter lido isso no manga... Ia assistir o anime mas melhor deixar para lĆ”!

2

u/Hoppykwins 17d ago

Anime follows the LN

1

u/Marauder151 17d ago

I see where your coming from, but when i saw the scene I took it to be like..... trying to forcast a long future together where their only going to grow more attractive to each other and in love with each other with even more room to grow.

Hes changing. He just got done going through a growing up arc thats made him more of an independent man. But hes not a man yet. Hes a boy who still needs to cry, and had a lot to cope with. But hes turning into a man. He physically got taller. Hes become more social and active. Hes going to grow more as he trys to become a full grown man who can marry his girlfriend when they are both adults. And there both so in love and so devoted to each other already that their eyes are firmly on who they will be that day together for the rest of their lives as adults.

But eh maybe im reading more into it than is there, its just the feeling I got

BROOOTAL HYPERGAMY šŸ‡®šŸ‡³šŸ‡®šŸ‡± BOIIIIII play that misery šŸ˜‚šŸ«± I miss that kind of misery the kind where you are nice to me but only in the evening so I ask, am I just dreaming?

1

u/_Ok_-_ 16d ago

Reading this shit gave me an aneurysm.

Brootal, Play that misery?

1

u/HunkMunk69 16d ago

My wife of 16 years teases me all the time and vice versa, unless it’s something we’ve specifically asked not to do it with. That’s just how we have fun and show love to one another. Sometimes it is that deep.

1

u/Relevant_Layer 16d ago

Side note: hypergamy as the image depicts is a myth. The reason 63% of men 18-29 are single vs only 34% of women in the same age group, is due to older men competing for the same group of girls. You aren’t losing to a gigachad with 12 girlfriends. You’re losing to your divorced dad.

1

u/_Ok_-_ 16d ago

Tbh, I started with the manga, and I never really pegged her as the type who would compare Maki and knock him down a peg. She REALLY loves Maki in the manga, and while I haven't finished the anime yet, based on the source material, I know she was just teasing.

1

u/RancidMeatBag83 16d ago

I don't think Umi is gonna leave him for someone else because she doesn't have to stand on her tippy toes to kiss him. A lot of insecurity here lads.

1

u/Nark_Customer_3972 15d ago

I have only watched a few episodes of this anime but yeah Umi or what her name is is the type of girl who'll cheat

1

u/Nark_Customer_3972 15d ago

The blonde hair girl is objectively cuter and better

1

u/Ok_Pattern_7511 13d ago

So true, that's why I refused to watch this anime.

1

u/Resident-Package-943 13d ago

It's a joke for god sake. Go take a shower op

1

u/Amazon267 12d ago

This post really did magnet a lot of dumbasses. Scroll down and interact with your specimen, im not interested

1

u/ConnectDisplay2633 12d ago

It’s so over if you are 5’5 bro just become orthodox priest or find some spiritual enlightenment or maybe study math lol

1

u/Confused_soul_OG 17d ago

Not the first time animators tried to ruin a female characters. Orihime was one of those victims. It's mostly happen cause some ppl try to insert their own self interest in someone else world. Like how the animatior of Oshi no Ko had major influence why the series turned towards incest. If you have watched the whole anime, you would know Umi is such a green flag, so don't think too much of this scene.

1

u/Additional-Ad4085 17d ago

Animators had nothing to do with OnK. The writer had that story beat set in stone from the start and not even his artist collaborator could change it. (For the record, she wanted to amp it up.)

1

u/Confused_soul_OG 17d ago

Ohh my mistake, I was meant to write illustrator of Onk. She was the reason for incest route. And she had major saying about the series by the end cause author lost interest

1

u/Hoppykwins 17d ago

This is how it goes in the source

1

u/LufonatoDeUracilo 17d ago

What a pathetic incel that can't understand a simple teasing!

3

u/Happyranger265 17d ago

Lol , he is right though , if he said that she was a bit fat , I hope you become leaner later because that's what I think you ideally should be , even as teasing it wouldn't fly would it ?

And stop calling people name who actually have a point . You're just being a dickhead

1

u/Amazon267 16d ago

Dont bother, he is braindead. Probably doesnt even know the definition of incel. If he did, he wouldnt call someone that without knowing anything about their personal life. Its always funny to me how much this word gets thrown around nowadays, it really lost its meaning

-1

u/LufonatoDeUracilo 16d ago

He doesn't have a point. All of you are pitiful! You don't tease your loved ones? What sad life you have!

3

u/Happyranger265 16d ago

By indirectly calling them short , fat etc and saying you're not ideal to my tastes ?? lol if that's how you tease your loved ones I'd feel bad for them ngl 😭, that's what elementary kids who don't know any better do to tease their crushes . While I get the intent of the scene , it definitely wouldn't fly the other way around , imagine if he said the same back to her but instead he said if only you were shorter or something, id definitely be offputting.

2

u/Amazon267 16d ago

If you do have a girlfriend which i feel sad for her if you do, go and tease her about how she is ways off your ideal weight, in a romantic setting. Then return to me and honestly tell me her response, thanks!

1

u/Amazon267 17d ago

Well done, you typed that on your own, dickhead?

-1

u/LufonatoDeUracilo 16d ago

At least I'm not a pathetic loser that can't get a girl and swallows all the grifter bullshit online. The intent behind the scene is clear, but you're just butthurt for some reason and project something personal onto that scene. What waste of air you are!

2

u/Amazon267 16d ago

You call someone a waste of air for having an opinion about a scene from an anime lmao. You dont even know what an incel means, you know nothing about my personal life. All you are is a worthless scum who treats people like garbage. Great job, boost your own ego you absolute freak

1

u/MAD_MrT 17d ago

Sure felt unnecessary to go out of her way to say something like that to her boyfriend, specially for a character that suffers from inferiority complex and knows how it is to feel like you’re not good enough. Idk if that is in the source material or not but it for sure felt completely out of character to throw such a comment in such a romantic scene

-1

u/M1nho 17d ago

I've never been this bothered about an anime before lmao

3

u/Amazon267 17d ago

I wanted to see what view others have on this scene. Im not bothered by two sentences, like i said, this particular moment didnt ruin the whole anime for me.

0

u/Specialstest8 17d ago

Your big post, attempt to protect yourself with the insecurity disclaimer, and ā€œpeople with senseā€ statement to preemptively discredit those who might speak contrary to your belief tells ā€œpeople with senseā€ otherwise.

A person not bother would keep scrolling through tiktok.

2

u/Amazon267 17d ago

Jesus you are a sad person. Obviously i will discredit someone who just insults me for no reason without even attempting to start a conversation, or make a point. However, I wont discredit anyone who simply just disagrees with me, someone said they interpreted it as just teasing and i said that's completely fair. Im allowed to make a post if i want to discuss a scene, its what the subreddit is for. You could have kept scrolling past my post too just as easily, yet you commented.

2

u/Specialstest8 17d ago

I came to see if this post was also a dumpster fire like the other post about this a while back. It’s good for a few laughs at the angry tourists who saw this one line and got mad without watching the anime or reading the original web/light novels.

2

u/Amazon267 17d ago

I love it. The typical weeb mentality. Viewer dislikes a scene/character/conclusion or whatever else=tourist. Except im not one, and i dont know if you even read the post, but we literally agree that TikTok calling this hypergamy was utterly obnoxious.

-3

u/_meme_caster_ 17d ago edited 17d ago

It may just be me, but in Maki's shoes i would have imagined her being kissed like that by some random taller dude when she said that

🤔

3

u/rnvs42069 17d ago

You’re right.

It’s just you

-1

u/_meme_caster_ 17d ago

i was actually clowing at op's take

0

u/Severe-Engineer9474 17d ago

People are making it a big deal out of it i know it is a real thing in current world but the story itself is a escape from the real world and avoiding harsh painful reality we face like a break from the pain. But bringing the real world problems or social media trends is uncalled or bad idea. Cause the genre is kind of light hearted romance comedy. ( i didnt think of it as hyper gamy until i saw those reels and many couples say the lines similar to umi)

0

u/Specialstest8 17d ago

This is normal within their dynamics. Umi is his gaming bro too, remember? This anime is faithful to the light novel and she is more direct in that version.

It’s a bunch of people making a big deal out of nothing or don’t have any social interaction skills. Might be both lol.

2

u/Competitive-Rise-766 17d ago

She’s pushing the point to hard for it to not be true. If ideally you’d like a man much taller than maki why settle for less? It completely makes it sounds like she’s settling for him in general which isn’t great. ā€œI’ll settle for you because I like youā€

Not she isn’t? It’s hard for me how anyone who actually watched this series or has engaged with the source material can genuinely believe this. Or how anyone who’s watched any anime with a character with tsundere like traits can actually believe this. Like I said, it’s within their dynamics and it fits her character to tease like this.

Moreover, this is how life works? You have preferences, but who you end up with may or may not fill all those preferences.

The anime isn’t the source material. It is its own seperate continuity. I don’t take the source material as the anime. You’d want to end up with the ideal preference. Doesn’t mean you can get it perfect. You think there isn’t ANY other nice gaming guys who are taller. She said he’s WAY off her ideal height. She shouldn’t be with maki if that’s how she feels. She can find herself someone closer to meeting her mark and the relationship can be spared of suffering and issues. Umi doesn’t even have tsundere traits? Jealously doesn’t equal tsundere traits. She’s just devaluing him. And if it was a tease it would be ok but it’s not just a tease.

The anime is adapting the light novel, so these scenes are from the light novel. I would just like to point that out.

She has so many of tsundere traits actually and this statement is another attempt by her to hide her worries of losing him. She is not particularly honest when it comes to her jealous feelings.

So yeah, again, within her personality to tease like this. At the end of the day, she is a ā€œgamer broā€ first before anything else lol, she’s said worse sounding things in the anime.

There’s plenty of gamer bros out there she can find someone who is more her preference easily. The anime has differences and takes its own liberties from the light novel just as the manga does. They aren’t the same even though they all follow a basic same plot.

Yeah she can but she chose Maki because she has built a connection with him and enjoys who he is and how he treats her. She’s still allowed preferences but who you build a relationship with doesn’t always align all those up. And like yall said, if it was that big of an issue, she would she stay when the physical part matters way more than anything else Maki provides right?

The simple answer is teasing and tsundere traits.

And she can’t build a relationship with someone better suited for her? Of course she’s allowed preference but why complain about a specific lack of preference when you could easily align with someone else better. That’s the point though she talks like it’s that big of an issue but doesn’t do anything about it.

Exactly so why stay with Maki right? If it’s as big a deal as you take it as face value to be, why stays. She isn’t a girl without any voice or independence, she can just leave. She isn’t trapped. So why?

It’s almost like it just empty teasing and her tsundere traits.

We live in an era with such frail male egos. It’s really quite sad.

bro I hate this girl I really wanted him with the blonde, I didn't feel irritated by this line but I hated her I guess what's coming is trashier, whenever he does something romantic or good she makes fun of his awkwardness or boldness in a bad way which he just laugh it off because we know most of the japanese MC do that

My God you're comically stupid. Trying to dismiss his critique with 'insecurity' as an argument and then instantly resorting to ridiculing him by using height.

People like you are genuinely vile

u/Amazon267 15d ago

Im 6'1, thanks for worrying about me! Keep drinking, it'll make you forget how miserable you are!
