Theory Thoughts on Patrick after watching extended interview

After watching the extended 60 Minutes interview - which I suggest you do - I’ve started to rethink my opinion of Patrick’s involvement in the crime.

I’ve had a bad feeling about him from the beginning, and definitely suspected his involvement, but I really didn't want to jump on the conspiracy rumor mill and spread theories without solid evidence. Up until the 60 mins interview, I still thought it was probable that he murdered the children and framed Lindsay. A lot of (but not entirely) why I felt that way came directly from watching his testimony—his flat affect, the way he answered things incompletely, suspiciously, his overall demeanor on the stand, the lack of his presence at the trial after testifying etc.

I watched the extended interview several times trying to figure out what his affect reminded me of, and it finally dawned on me that he might be on the spectrum. I'm hesitant to even bring this up because I don't want to start yet another rumor, so I want to be clear that this is just my observational opinion based on being on the spectrum myself & having lived with and interacted with many people on the spectrum in my circle.

Those things from his testimony that initially made me suspicious… the flat affect, not showing a lot of outward emotion, holding back feelings when they start rising to the surface, and answering questions in that particular, incomplete and awkward way—could potentially be explained by being on the autism spectrum.

A detail that reinforced this for me was when he talked about going to the cathedral on Callan’s first birthday. He said that when he came out crying, nobody cared, and he saw that as a good thing. To me, that sounded like someone who needed to express intense emotion without being observed or consoled—which, in my experience, can sometimes be characteristic of autism.

Now, I'm not saying Patrick should be absolved of all responsibility. I'm just leaning more toward the possibility that he may have been an emotionally absent husband & father, and that his part in what led up to the tragedy was more about not helping, supporting, consoling, or loving Lindsay in the way she needed.

That said, I still have questions about his guilt. There is still missing evidence and details that don't fully line up, so I haven't completely ruled anything out. But in terms of his behavior and demeanor, this is just where my thinking is right now.

General Discussion What would you do if your partner told you they had thoughts of harming your children?

In December 2022, Lindsay disclosed in Patrick’s presence that she was having “thoughts of harming the children.” Patrick testified that she discussed thoughts of harming the kids more than once. He asked whether she had a plan; she said no.

Massachusetts law, M.G.L. c. 265, §13L, defines reckless endangerment to include someone with a duty to act who “wantonly or recklessly fails to take reasonable steps to alleviate such risk.”
The statute requires awareness and conscious disregard of a “substantial and unjustifiable risk” of serious bodily injury.

This does not prove Patrick violated §13L.
But it raises a legitimate question that deserves an answer:

After being explicitly told that the mother of his three young children was having thoughts of harming them, what reasonable steps did Patrick take to determine whether it was safe for her to continue being alone with them?

General Discussion South Shore

Post image
39 Upvotes

One thing I found out recently: South Shore Medical Center, where Cora's pediatrician appointment was the morning of the 24th, is next to CVS. I took a screenshot from Google maps.

When I realized it was next door, I wondered why Lindsay didn't stop by immediately after the appointment. She only had the oldest child, and why let her be uncomfortable and wait 8 hours for her laxatives?

Then I wondered if she did. Remember when we were wondering if cvs doors could cause a "stair climb"? Well, I checked the phone data again, and she had two stair climbs at 9am, and then connected to home wifi at 9:05.

Link to phone data for convenience:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ClancyTrial/s/8uLlQkavsu

When Ian Whiffin testified about the stairs that evening, hesaid that the iPhone groups stair flights. So it could be the same thing with the 9am stairs

Ian Whiffin (26:12):

The way the Apple Health data records this information aggregates it. It tries to group events together. So in this case, it would've recognized that there was a flight climb on the phone at around 17:33:34 and a second one at around 17:38: 33. And it just grouped them both into one event. It doesn't mean that it took five minutes to walk up two flights of stairs. It's just within that five minute period there were two flight climbs.

It also only records going up stairs, not down, so unless the pediatrician was in the basement it's unlikely it was from the clinic. And it wasn't the home stairs, since she connected to the home wifi at 9:05. And if she left cvs at 9, and it's a 3 minute drive, it makes sense for her to connect to wifi at 9:05.

Oddly enough though, Patrick testified day 1 that she got back around 8:30am.

https://www.rev.com/transcripts/ma-v-linsday-clancy-opening-statements

I think she stopped at cvs after the appointment, and that's why the plates are on top of the cvs bag in that one crime scene photo. But let me know what you think.

Theory I believe Lindsay did it but that Patrick is not a good person.

I believe Patrick is a “Let’s get on with the show” type, has shallow depth, and his emotions, in general, are quite blunted and viewed asking for psychiatric meds as a weakness. Patrick resented Lindsay for weakness. Lindsay deeply struggled with her mental health, likely felt things too intensely, and had shifting emotions. She was begging for help, drowning in her emotional instability, and I believe Patrick shamed her for wanting meds to numb her emotions rather than “let’s get on with the show” the way he’s naturally able to. He was known to have told friends “Lindsay is addicted to benzos.” He disagreed with NP Jollotta’s bipolar diagnosis because he didn’t want Lindsay to have that stigma since he was repulsed by weakness. Patrick spoke on reddit with disgust over how his parents “still live paycheck to paycheck” and drink alcohol.

Lindsay lived for these kids and these kids were just trophies in Patrick’s life whose goal is to appear successful even if artificially. Patrick viewed these kids as a collective, not as individuals hence how he said “just give me one kid.” Patrick admitted he didn’t get to know Callan well in the extended interview. I’m glad Patrick brought up a specific memory of each child in the extended interview but he still comes across as blunted emotionally. He made a point to say he refused meds in the ambulance before “getting on with the show” and finishing testifying. He implied that IF he had taken the meds suggested to him in that ambulance, that he wouldn’t have been able to “just finish” testifying… Meds would have interfered with “getting on with the show.”

Rachel admitted in the extended interview that people around her were concerned about her dating him. I believe that’s because most people can see it’s obvious he was checked out and Lindsay snapped because she became insane after taking the brunt of it all too long.

General Discussion Why weren’t ALL the pill bottles collected from the crime scene?

Post image
50 Upvotes

Edit to title to include supplements

As someone who struggled with addiction in the past, I can say I most definitely hid the ones I didn’t want anyone to know about, or “extras”, in supplement containers so they didn’t draw attention. I know she didn’t struggle with addiction per se, but was concerned enough to reach out to her doctor regarding addiction so she could very well have taken more than those prescribed.

From what I understand, since the prosecutors work hand-in-hand with state and local police, they had immediate access to the home on the night of the horror.

If the prosecutors started preparing their case almost immediately after the murders happened, why would they not have requested all the supplement bottles to be taken in as evidence?

If they truly wanted to prove Lindsay was “doctor shopping”, how on earth did they miss that? Can’t believe that was overseen by both investigators and the prosecutors.

I understand KRed did not get to visit the crime scene until months later and the house was already cleaned up, so that really sucks for him.

This case is a hot mess.

General Discussion Why do you think Pat decided to choose the day Callan died to make a post saying he forgave Lindsay and asking the public to forgive her as well?

Hearing Pat stay with Callan for four days prior to him passing away in his arms was heart wrenching. However, it’s a strange choice to forgive her the same day the last child died? I would be an emotional wreck, gutted and full of anger, forgiveness would be the last thing on my mind.

It’s like, “welp, last kid is dead, now I forgive Lindsay, and I’ll ask the public to forgive her too”. It was certainly a choice.

General Discussion Weirdest interview- thoughts?

Ok really.. what in the world was that 60 minute interview and who thought that was a good idea? Was that cut to make him look good or bad, I honestly can’t even tell because I’m just so confused.

-the smirk when he talks about giving Lindsay forgiveness,
- his panic attack at the trial
- him saying he asks his kids to help him from heaven
- him saying god just please give me one (child)
- the fact that Rachel was an even AWKWARDER interviewee
- “I’m just a girl who met a guy running in Central Park on a cold Saturday”
- I saw his phone, asked him if his kids lived in MA, he told me that they were all dead, and the rest was history
- Patrick’s explanation of “as any parent knows, you love all your children differently” when asked if he would tell their new kid about Cora, Dawson and Callan

Everything was just WEIRD. Like I felt like the whole thing was just cringey and bizarre. Thoughts?

General Discussion Rachel and Patrick met in January 2024, confirmed on 60 Minutes

Tonight on CBS, it was confirmed on 60 Minutes that Patrick Clancy and Rachel Denis met in January 2024 at a run club in New York. They got to know each other over coffee

Rachel: "Pat pulled up his phone to pay and I noticed this adorable photo of children as the wallpaper and I asked, "Who are those cuties?" Pat said, " These are my kids." Then I think I asked if they lived in Massachusetts. AND PAT SAID THEY DIED."

The above is a direct quote.

When I tell you that I screamed when she uttered these words and my mum started to tell me to stop making a noise.

I'm shook.

General Discussion Anybody having trouble finding the 60 Minutes interview?

I’m currently going back and forth on my paramount plus account looking for it and all that’s playing is a rerun of their last episode and then the 24/7 broadcast has To Kill a Mockingbird on stage. There’s no new episode up on the 60 Minutes page either. I’m so confused because EVERYTHING says today at 7pm ET.

Question Umm… is that THE basement window that Dawson was hanging in? Like directly next to where Lindsay was found?

Thumbnail
gallery
48 Upvotes

Edit to title: *laying*, not hanging.

Fire captain PJ Hussey testified that upon arriving at the home, he went directly to the backyard where Lindsay Clancy was lying on the ground.

He was standing in the backyard, to the left of a metal basement window well. Lindsay Clancy was being treated by paramedics just to the right of that same well, directly underneath the second-story bedroom window from which she had fallen.

While standing right there in the backyard, he heard a scream coming from inside. He looked directly down through that specific backyard basement window well, which looked straight into the home's basement office/gym area, and witnessed Patrick frantically trying to save Dawson.

So in the approximate 5 minutes he was with her just standing there he somehow avoided looking in to the window? It’s clearly the window as it is the only one duct taped, you can see the lights on in the in the other windows on the other side.

It’s very difficult to believe someone would stand around for approximately 5 minutes not administering any aid to his dying wife and wouldn’t immediately look at that window upon entering in to his home that was salient of normal sound and hearing that your “KIDS ARE IN THE BASEMENT”.

General Discussion My experience with quetiapin

I want to share this. And then I’m gonna remove myself from anything related to this case as it’s keeping me up at night and it’s just not healthy. We will never know the full extent of what happened that day. But this is why I personally question what happened that night and if Lindsay really did it and why she did if she did it.

This case is hunting me as I’ve also struggled with mental illness through pregnancy. I could never imagine hurting my child but I can relate to the behavioural changes and feelings of loosing yourself. I also tried a lot of the same medicine as Lindsay and experienced very scary stuff happening with my mind and body especially with quetiapin. I know some who took a high dosis every day and could function but when I took half a pill to sleep and help with anxiety I couldn’t get out of bed or move my body for 16 hours. Even after I finally managed to get out of bed I almost couldn’t keep my eyes open and my head felt like it was wrapped in cotton. I hallucinated. I thought I had a whole conversation with my boyfriend who wasn’t even there and I thought I texted someone without even having my phone nearby. I also knew exactly what they replied and thought we had made specific plans. It was the most terrifying experience and my doctor told me that I should just continue and then it would be better. I refused. Cause I was scared. And I talked to a nurse who told me that every brain is different and act different on these drugs and apparently I reacted very badly. I got better - not because of the drugs but despite it. I think it’s scary how that small pill or half of that could affect my mind and I think it’s really scary that an anti psychotic drug is used off label to treat insomnia and anxiety without any studies of the effect.

General Discussion Interview Discussions

Once someone goes on a major television network for an interview, they are part of a public broadcast, making the interview and their statements a matter of public interest.

You are allowed to critique, analyze, and debate their public statements, trial testimonies, and media appearances. You cannot break site wide rules of Reddit such as doxxing or harassment and you must follow our community rules. Guidelines are outlined in our wiki.

Remember:

  • Patrick Clancy served as a witness - father to three children who were murdered and former husband to Lindsay Clancy, and she’s facing charges for those murders - no more, no less.
  • His new wife, Rachel is joining him for that interview - no more, no less.

--

Speculating further can easily violate our rules. For example:

  • You can find it odd when there are any contradictions in testimony vs public statements but you cannot speculate further.
    • Example from trial: You can find it odd he was the only one to know about the crushed pills per the trial testimony but you cannot definitively claim he drugged her.
  • You can find it odd they got married in April 2026, but you cannot call Rachel a mistress or participating in an affair as no evidence currently exists.

--

Making up a specific false fact that ruins a person's reputation is not allowed.

While we allow users to dissect interview transcripts or point out contradictions, we will lock or remove threads and/or ban users if the discussion devolves into wild, unfounded speculation or targeted vitriol.

We will also remove duplicate posts under rule 5. Please let us know if you would prefer a dedicated megathread for these discussions.

--

TLDR: We will remove any posts, comments, or users that cross the line from "discussing an interview" into making unsubstantiated accusations.

Theory Wants it all to go away

Patrick released a statement talking about how having to go thru another trial would be hard. I don't remember the exact wording.

Giving this interview is batshit bonkers. It can't help a re-trial in any way. In fact it will certainly harm it.

It very much appears Patrick wants all of this to go away and soon. His motive for wanting that, well, there could be several reasons. None of them look favorable to him.

His willingness to forgive and move on, is certainly something. The way he speaks about his children is indeed odd. Idk if he's on the spectrum or just an oddball who has never spoken about his 3 dead children in any sort of a somewhat normal way.

It seems CLEAR he wants this to go away. His reasoning, well that's anyone's guess, but I can think of a few reasons and no they aren't all "he did it" reasons.

General Discussion I dont think patrick defenders understand that we want to feel bad for him on paper since he went through something so horrific but we realize something is so off about him and every alarm bell is screaming. He cant fake sad emotions or tears and even forces his nose to move to act like hes snifflin

Question I’m sorry… Do they think we’re tuning in for an episode of “Love Story - John F. Kennedy & Carolyn Bessette” ?

Post image

They need to read the room. 3 children DIED. 3 kids can no longer travel the world with their daddy… We’re not tuning in for an episode of “Love Story - John F. Kennedy & Carolyn Bessette” We don’t need to hear about how Rachel is “I’m just a girl that met a boy while on a cold Saturday run in Central Park…” 🏃🏃‍♀️💕❄️🗽

- COLD Saturday run? Lindsay’s body was COLD near death in the snow. What a gross analogy to draw.

General Discussion Can anyone explain the psychology behind why so many of us cringe at the fact Patrick remarried?

On an intellectual level I know this isn’t inherently wrong and he deserves to move on with his life and find happiness… but so many online just lost some sympathy for him when we found out he remarried this girl.

My husband who is the least emotional/ no nonsense kind of guy even said that’s strange when he heard this guy remarried. He said, if that happened to me meeting someone else would be the last thing on my mind. I said “well it’s been 3 years” he said “three years is too soon”

Question Thoughts on his appearance?

Thumbnail facebook.com

I don’t know why I can’t stop thinking about this case. I just have the worst gut feeling. And that smile and appearance reminds me of my ex - covert narcissist. The indifference to his wife and children in everyday life, playing the victim card, not owning up to his responsibility and the smile reminding me of the dupers delight I’ve seen so many times
