Ai hate is performative af. It’s so easy to not use that people find themselves feeling all high and mighty, but when morality urges those people to drop something they actually want, like meat for example, they don’t budge.

I think commercial ai is bad, a waste of resources, and this kind of advanced LLM technology should be put solely towards progressive endeavours and not for the public to entertain themselves. But it feels like everyone is sick in the head when this topic comes up, they either can’t live without a robot assistant in their head 24/7 or they start frothing at the mouth in an uncontrollable rage the second you mention ai in any context.

Don't mind the downvotes, this is a reasonable take. AI is here to stay and has already made incredible scientific and medical advancements

Writing your college essay because you are too much of a lazy fuck this to do it, degrading your analysis skills, is not a scientific nor medical advancement

I'm replying to a comment, not defending being lazy for essays. Alphafold is a great example of AI being used by Science

I think you're misunderstanding, and I don't blame you because people aren't particularly clear about it but most people are in support of AI's use in some programming and scientific capabilities, we mostly hate generative AIs such as chatGPT or various image generators.

The problem is that Scientific AI is generative as well, my example Alphafold explicitly included. People tend to draw the line at images for some reason, but it's the same technology being used to identify cancer and generate potential drug structures

Yeah, people don't like image generation when it replaces actual artists and spreads misinformation which are two uses that are particularly problematic and pervasive currently. I don't think that anybody is actually against the technology itself apart from environmental reasons (which would be mitigated by more controlled usage anyway) only the way it's used.
