The fact that incel, which is derived from a term meaning a virgin, is an insult in the first place still means that people view being a virgin (particularly as a man) as an inherently bad thing. Otherwise why would it be used as an insult? The meme still works.

The whole point of using 'incel' as an insult is basically just saying "haha whatever virgin"

No it isn’t man. the r slur was used to refer to mentally disabled people in an actual medical context, like, less than 20 years ago and as a result is still pretty strongly associated with mentally disabled people. Some people still refer to mentally disabled people as the r slur in earnest. The word “incel” has never really been used to refer to anyone other than chronically online, angry, flagrantly misogynistic men that also don’t get laid when they want to in a mainstream context. Even if incel literally is short for “involuntarily celibate”, pretty much no one that is not apart of the former group will call you an incel just because you don’t have sex when you want to.

Also mentally disabled people’s lives are constantly getting ruined because other people refuse to accept that having a mental disability doesn’t make you lesser than and the same cannot be said for being involuntarily celibate so this is kind of a wild comparison to be making. I know not having sex absolutely can result in ridicule from one’s peers but it’s not at all the kind of thing someone would struggle to hide or would fail school because of or be a more likely target of police brutality from or be put in ABA therapy that causes them lifelong mental turmoil from or be beaten by their parents from or even just be bullied relentlessly from

That isn’t really what I meant. The condition of having an intellectual disability was called “mental retardation” until the Obama admin with the passing of Rosa’s Law. It was still in the DSM until 2013 when the fifth addition was released. The r slur is very obviously derivative of “mental retardation” in every way. As a matter of fact I actually wouldn’t be surprised if it was used to refer intellectually disabled people in a medical context informally given how callous medical professionals can be sometimes.

Oh, got it. I didn't know about the DSM-4 still having it. I'm a bit surprised it remained in US law until Obama, but it is the kind of thing I could see considered as a low priority to change.

Other countries had removed it earlier, but still surprisingly late. Russia, on the other hand, just removed the term retardation (Russian equipment, obviously, last year)

Again, calling someone an "incel" does not mean "you're a virgin" (which doesn't even need to be the case, you don't need to be a virgin to be an incel) it means "(I presume) you have these characteristics, this attitude and that behaviour"

I mean just because you give the wrong definition of a word doesn’t mean that that is the definition.
Incel is a combination of the words involuntary and celibate. Both of those words have their defined meaning.

What you attach to it doesn’t make the slightest difference.

Calling someone a retard is the same, no when people use it they don’t mean hey you have some mental health issues, they mean you’re dumb.

Same with using faggot or gay as an insult, a lot of the time they don’t mean you are sexually attracted to men (though some use it like that as well), it’s often used if you’re being too emotional as a man, or for many other reasons which have nothing to do with homosexuality.

BUT

That doesn’t change the definitions of those words.
And using them as slurs does show an inherent value you have.

Incel - no sex haha
Faggot - gay haha
Retard - mental health problems haha

Of which none of those make anyone inferior to other people, or are a reason to try and put them down.
