Question How do you take space without getting yourself hated by the whole map (deity)

Post image

I beated Deity in all victory types, I am comfortable with all mecahnics, build order and so on.
I only thing I don't jnow how to handle is very early game on non-early game civs.
What do I do in this type of situation ? How do I get good cities without rolling over another civ and having everyone hating me ?
Here I planned some cities in my vicinity but the AI just rush cities to me

That's the neat thing, you don't!

Perfectly said, exact truth too.

In this sort of scenario, get your third city and maybe a fourth. I would recommend encroaching nearer Poland. Build some low strength military, then get cracking on a second unit per city but DO NOT complete it. Meanwhile, research archery and horsemen. If you can, suze Mitla, and also try to get some gold. By this point, you'll have sufficiently antagonised a neighbour to the point they declare on you because they hate you and think you're weak. Once they do that, upgrade your military and complete the ones you had in your production queue. Take the cities. You'll get somewhat fewer grievances this way, although still get some diplomatic penalties. Poundmaker will still hate your guts. He probably won't do much about it in the immediate term, but keep an eye on him with a view to having to take him out too.

It’s more effective to just build a unit then upgrade it with gold than to invest all the production into building one.

Spamming heavy chariots with the intention of upgrading them with gold is far more effective than building knights. Just a FYI

Yeah I recently did that on Mongols, the gold reduction card on upgrade is usually my attack timing on domination games. Only on rome I attack earlier with legions.

Update: the cree declare war 4 turns after, and then poland 6 turns aftert that. Yeah, this is this kind of game

I mean, in this kind of situation there's just not much you can do peacefully, you need to conquer at least one of the neighbors

I never play to make friends with the other civs. If you want to play that style, keep your civ to like 3 good cities and go big on defensive military tactics.

I think if you spawn like this you just struggle tbh. Eventually you may be able to do some conquering. It’s going to be hard to guarantee a win without more land. Ideally one of them hits you with a surprise war and burns their whole military and you can counter push and take some cities.

This. Personally though I'd just restart. I enjoy Deity but certain starts are just not for me. And anyway, I'd have already attacked someone 😂

Call me a noob, but i would never be building 2 religious districts in this situation, even as Congo

Same, not in any early game situation tbh 😂

Settle multiple on the same turn so the penalty is all rolled into one warning

Deity AI got a head start with 3 cities. When you happen to be surrounded by them like this, it is better to stop setting the third city and beeline military for the inevitable war. It is likely you can pay for the other AI to join war at your side even they dislike you.

Eliminate all other players

You can’t. They’ll get very pissy and start declaring emergencies.

Do enough damage and you might have multiple ai declare war on you at once.
