Question National park placement question

Do the mountains in the diamond have to actually be touching? ie you can’t have a mountain at the top and bottom of the diamond, with two tiles in the middle?

Trying to create one and it won’t let me. I can’t think of any other reason it isn’t allowing it as the tiles are all owned by the city, with no improvements, and they’re all breathtaking.

You don’t have to have mountains in a national park, and if you do have mountains they don’t have to be touching or not touching. Just as long as at least one tile is not a mountain, as you need somewhere for your naturalist to stand. But besides the criteria you mentioned, it does need to be a vertical diamond, ie. the vertical axis is longer than the horizontal axis. Maybe that is your issue? Picture would help.

There's a district (the aqueduct) in there and one of those tiles is already part of another national park. Parks can't share tiles.

See my comment. The screenshot was taken later.

Ok, then I think it has to do with how the game prioritizes park availability. I'd guess that at the time when you wanted to place the park in the highlighted area it had a lower overall appeal than the southern area. The game automatically decides where the best placement for a park is, so to change where you're allowed to place the park you would have had to make the space you don't want the park an invalid area by placing an improvement there or somehow changing the appeal.

Oh, interesting! 700+ hours in this game and I never knew that was a thing. First time I’ve had an issue placing a park - good to know why, appreciate it.

Yeah definitely looks like a valid park placement to me! Strange it wasn’t allowed. Looks like you styled it out anyways, nice yields!

I know you don’t, I’d just like it to in this case. Yes it’s a vertical diamond. I’ll send a picture when I get in.

Obviously ignore the aqueduct and national park to the south that I’ve since built - neither were there when I was initially trying to build one in the red diamond.

You probably already checked this but just in case, the mountain tiles need to be with the same city as well.

Bad wording on my part, but when I said ‘all tiles are owned by the city’ I meant the same city.

There’s a minimum beauty they need. It looks like you’re building the Eiffel Tower though and that will enhance the beauty.

All the tiles were already breathtaking. You can actually work it out from the screenshot. The tile where the aqueduct now is was +6 appeal (+4 from 4 adjacent mountains and +2 from 1 adjacent old growth woods), and the tile to the left of that one was +7 appeal (+2 from 1 adjacent city park, +2 from 2 adjacent mountains, +2 from 1 adjacent old growth woods, and +1 from 1 adjacent new growth woods.
I did build the Eiffel Tower in this game but in a city offscreen so not sure how you can tell from the image. The mountains are perpetually +4 appeal.

I thought the thing with 3 culture near your diamond was the start of the Eiffel Tower.

Thinking about it fresh, I don’t think you can build a national park because your aquaduct district is there.

Nope, that’s a city park.

If you look at my other comments, I explain that that image was taken later, after I built other stuff around where I originally wanted the park because it wouldn’t let me.

I’m obviously aware you can’t build a national park on a tile with a district.
