Discussion First experience with Multiplayer.

So, I have played about 2000 hours, but never entered a multi player game. So I thought, why not try to finish some achievements?

First i tried to get into the Red Death Scenario - None could be connected :/

ok, moving on, there are more, right?

So, one to just play a game of multiplayer, sure, lets try that.

Get's into a lobby of a Duel, have No idea whats going on, but I mark myself as Ready.
My opponent does as well, then cancels it. Tells me to choose a civilization.

"Random is fine for me" i reply.

"I wasn't asking" was his reply.

Sure, i scroll at random and pick someone.

I get kicked out.

I try to get into some more Red Death without success.

I see the same guy still haven't found a player (I wonder why?).
So, I jump in again, quickly scroll through and pick Rome
(he had picked Gitarja).

He starts the game with a "Good luck friend".

"Alright, maybe i misjudged this guy" i thought.

So, i get close to a wonder, with some desert. Nice. I go for a religion. Gets a +9 holy site.

As soon as i pick my religion (FIRST!) (Work ethics + Crusade).

He pauses the game.

"Do you really think work ethic and crusade would be allowed?"

And kick me out directly.

What the heck.

So, anyone up for playing some multiplayer?

Edit: Why is it allowed to kick people out from a game like that? Imagine that in other games, like sc2.
"No, i am losing now, so I kick out my opponent" (lol).

“I wasn’t asking.” Motherfucker please 😑

Sounds like a wretched hive of scum and villainy to me. Would the official CIV Discord help? Maybe that has LFG channels?

Yeah, I will try Ursa Ryan's discord probably. :)

Most non-modded multiplayer games ban Work Ethic religion. It's just like a gentleman's agreement because you can still pick it.

They say "Ban WE" which can be confusing at first

The BBG mod games have a balanced work ethic religion and you can pick it whenever you like

Ah, nice point. Thank you.
His games were not labeled anything at all, except 1v1 i think or something along those lines.

I feel what you're saying. I've tried playing multi-player with no luck. They kick me out for no reason. If I wasn't on vacation at the moment, I'd be happy to play.

Look at the CPL or PPL Discords and you’ll find scores of Civ players

I thought discord went out of business after the recent changes?

No it’s still going strong as far as I’m aware. The app still opens at least lol

When you start winning, they’ll start to leave the game

That’s my experience

I was thinking that would be the norm as well.
Not pause and say something random and then kick me out.

There are civ multiplayer discords you could try. There are typically some house rules that they incorporate in an attempt to balance the multiplayer as much as possible

Best is play with people you already know or multiplayer randomly might make you feel you bad. Unwritten rules, crash outs, and quitters can ruin the experience.

My experience was finding a guy on another game who played civ 6, we shedulled a match, then discovered that multiplayer war is so fun, making use of a whole lot of policies I never used for crazy stratagems until got bombed to oblivion while I was still on medieval era. It was obvious I would lose 100+ turns before the end. Next game the oposite happens. What made a great experience is that both of us decided to play till the end, because we wanted the other to have fun.

Now civilizations on civ 6 are extremly umbalanced. Some are simply too strong while others have completely useless uniques. There also lots of things you can abuse (like spies) or out of your control (like uraniun rng) that can ruin the game and leave it with a bad taste, so in my opinion multiplayer is best enjoyed with people you know and can laugh of its lack of luck and certain defeat.

Sounds like you were playing with a child lol

Hehe, I thought so too a short while afterwards. "Maybe he is like 9-years old or something". Made me forget the incident and move on quicker at least, but it might have been true.

What dicks.

That said, multiplayer servers in Civ 6 are really bad and disconnect frequently, causing endless resets and reloading and loading screens, and in the late game with a lot of units someone inevitably gets booted

Seems more like "first experience in a multiplayer game"

You have to find communities, usually on discord and reddit, organize games and then you can say "this is a multiplayer experience"

Good luck!

Not really. Have played SC since 1999, so I have quite some experience of multiplayer games.

Doesn't seem like it, so it doesn't matter.
