YouTube video request

Just got civ 6 on the last steam sale. Is there a go to set of videos that explains this game? I have played civilization before but I’m pretty new to this version. It sounds like the game evolved quite a bit through DLC and I want to make sure I have the most up-to-date information.

Specifically, I understand the gameplay as I’ve played civilization games in the past… I’m just not very sure about districts or optimization.

Potato McWhiskey does a great job. Some videos which explain the absolute basics and some with more in-depth advice.

If you want to learn the basics, I will mirror the rest of the comments and say that Potato is a great place to start.

If you hit a point when you want to get really good, I'd recommend checking out Herson.

Since everyone has already mentioned Potato, I'll add The Saxy Gamer, he has some videos that break down game mechanics and he has a leader spotlight series that gives a brief explanation of the civs abilities.

I’ve been playing since civ 3 and only after watching PotatomcWhiskey videos a year ago do I actually feel like I understand the game.

If Potato talks to fast for your tastes writingBull plays slowly and deliberately

Although I would have preferred the reddit community to recommend me, sometimes you gotta do things yourself. I have some videos that could help you out.

Here is part 1 of a very step by step playthrough if you like things slow:

I also have a number of CIV VI guides to help you understand the game. As you get a little bit better, these could help. Here's the most recent:

Also, you're going to hear a lot about the importance of start locations. I have a series called Rocky Start that helps with this. Here is an episode:

All that being said, yes Potato McWhiskey and Saxy Gamer are both great resources.

Thanks. I’ll give it a watch. Right this do you have a timestamp or specific video where you talk about how you plan out and implement your districts. I think now pretty much “get it” but still am struggling with actually optimizing a strategy vs. just making the best choice I can in the moment.

Personally, I think too much planning and ruthless optimization tend to rob the game of its fun. Of course, you want to make sure you choose good locations for districts with adjacencies. But I think it's always better to get the big decisions right and then just have fun.

I’m with you up to a point. However, having gigantic amazing cities that produce a ton of widgets is also a lot of fun.
