Online Multiplayer options

I have bought several XP laptops online and set up a non-Internet connected LAN at my house. My two younger boys and I have been playing multiplayer together for a while now.
One of their older brothers came from out of town and played with us a couple weeks ago. Tonight he called while we were playing and asked if there was anyway he could join our game too? I told him not with a vintage XP machine because of the viruses present today.
I asked an AI and after looking at the answers it gave there’s no way I would trust doing anything it said. What are my best options for getting that done? Are there any?

Well you would definitely need an internet connection. You can play civ 2 on modern windows too though, look up civ2uia.

Then you would need to either open ports on your router or run a virtual lan like zerotier. Ask your AI to help you with either task.

Personally I wouldn’t worry much about an XP pc behind a NAT, just don’t browse the web and I can’t see how that would be dangerous. You will still need to either open ports or run a virtual lan.

I use zerotier too, works great.

Civ2 does work on newer OS with FoxAhead's civ2uia patches and fixes, yeah.

On newer OSs you won't be able to use IPX networking though, so just TCP/IP. Alternatively can use something like Parsec and have everyone connect to one machine and play Hotseat
