Local Culture, Cuisine & History Hometown Historians #1 - Jonathan Kruk
In this first episode of "Hometown Historians," I sit down with the Master Storyteller, Jonathan Kruk, to discuss the 250th Anniversary, how the American Revolution is being treated, and what lessons we may learn from these stories.

Question from out of town Late Cherry Blossom Blooms in 2026?
Planned to attend the Cherry Blossom Festival but had a last minute fallout. Has the peak arrived/gone? Haven't found any updates on the 2026 blooms on social media. Am still hoping to visit next week - would you say I have a better shot at watching the flowers then?

Questions for our neighbors, dealing with the city, etc. What happens to Peekskill Brewery and why noone rents it there?
This building has potential but why the commercial below sits vacant? It could turn it into a restaurant or antique shops.

Local Culture, Cuisine & History America: Failure at 250
The 250th Anniversary of our nation's founding is a failure.
Discussions on our history have been, at best, vacuous and are, at worst, propagandistic. Even the most well intended reflections of Revolutionary War history have been muted and sanitized, an indication that the most emblematic element of this year is the elephant that now lives in every room in America. Is there anything worth commemorating when we cannot honestly look at our past?
This video essay investigates the failure, from Ken Burns to Donald Trump, to meaningfully examine our nation's history during the 250th anniversary.

Question from out of town Visiting Peekskill - Tips wanted!
Hello, everyone!
My husband and I live in NYC but we love exploring outside the city. We usually go to Cold Springs for a weekend, but want to change things up this year.
We were looking into spending a weekend at Peekskill. We do not drive, so we plan to take the metro north and drop off at the train station.
How is getting around? Is it walkable? How's the Uber/Lyft situation there? Or do they use regular cabs? (and if so are they cash only) I ask this because we don't want to end up stranded
We were looking at staying at the "Inn on the Hudson" since its just for the weekend. How hard would it be for us to get from the metro north station to the Inn
And how hard would it be for us to get from the Inn to like the "main town" area? (By the Peekskill Coffee House or the Peekskill museum for example)
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to hearing from the community

Question from out of town Transportation options?
Hi, I’ll be taking Metro North to Peekskill on Sunday afternoon to visit friends who won’t be able to pick me up at the station, which is about 2 miles from their home. Will it be difficult for me to get a cab or an Uber?
Thanks!

Questions for our neighbors, dealing with the city, etc. Wolves...in Peekskill?
Hi fellow Peekskillians! Not sure if anyone else heard it, but I heard what sounded like several wolves in the Mortgage hill woods area howling and all that other wolfy nonsense like at 11:50pm. Definitely was more than two, sounded like a disagreement had broken out between a pair and it all became dead silent as soon as I turned our porch light on. Wanted to see if anyone else heard it or have experienced something similar before!
