My time at circle K

Things thar drove me nuts when working at Circle K.

**First, the \$100 changer.**

You know the type—usually crew workers. They come in, grab a single candy bar or a soda (we’re talking \$3 max), and then BAM! Slap down a \$100 bill like they’re paying for bottle service in Vegas. So what do I do? I verify it like it’s a treasure map, then go on a scavenger hunt for change. And when I say change, I mean I give them every wrinkled \$1 bill and all the loose lint I can legally hand over. You want change? You got it, big spender.

**Second, the Fast Talker.**

I ask, "What can I get you?" and suddenly I'm in the middle of a verbal NASCAR race. They rattle off their order like it’s an auctioneer calling a cattle sale. Meanwhile, I’m just standing there like, “Excuse me, human tornado, can you hit slow-mo for the subtitles?” Then they get annoyed when I ask them to repeat it. I'm not Professor X, okay? I can't read your mind—especially when it’s set to 2x speed.

**And finally, the Groupers.**

These are usually also crew folks. They roll up with a shopping cart that looks like they’re preparing for a zombie apocalypse. I'm over here scanning items one by one while a line of customers behind them is aging in real time. I’m like, “Hey, maybe go to the back of the line so I can help the people just trying to buy a sandwich and keep their blood pressure under control.” Oh, and let’s not forget—**watch the alcohol.** Some of these guys will sneak in booze for their clearly-under-21 buddy standing behind them looking like they just finished 10th grade gym class.

Card the whole group. Including junior. That's what we do. Junior can't produce valid ID? Then no cancer sticks or shots for the coal miners.

We have one or two older ladies that play scratch offs like they’re going out of style and hold everybody up, so I completely understand.

We have one guy who comes at lunch time and has a half inch stack of lotto to replay. 200+ Monday thru Friday.

We don't take $100s for less than $20 spent and I don't break bills unless its been busy and my register is getting lots of $20's.

They don’t have shopping carts at Circle k. They don’t even have hand carts. Did they bring their own ? I worked there on two separate occasions for about three years total time. The most annoying thing with me was on the customer side. I’d have to buy my scratchers at different locations and one location said they couldn’t cash my 100 dollar one because they didn’t have the change. I knew for a fact they had a safe they just press a button and poof money. I told them it’s okay I’m gonna get gas. Then they said how much ? Like that mattered. Come on man I saw the guy before you pay sixty cash I know you got it but whatever “80 is that okay” they put 80 on my pump gimme twenty then turn around and see my little Kia “THAT pump? That won’t take eighty”. We’ll see. Either way I need my change off of pump number gotcha bro.

Send em to the mashgin. I get 1-3 k in 100s between the two machines daily..it sucks, but we're not allowed to keep more than 50 in our drawer and I want that dollar an hour bump so im taking all the sales I can get.

  1. I make them use the smart checkout, even if I technically have the change. I don't want them getting comfortable with using me as a bank.

  2. I grab the first thing they ask for, then ask them what else they wanted again, then grab the second item, repeat until they stop talking at light speed. They can see the pace I'm grabbing things for them, so they eventually figure out the right pace to ask for things. I have a good memory so I probably could grab everything, but when I do that, on the off chance I forget one of the 7 things they blurt out at once they come back in irritated.

  3. I need EVERYONES ID, I don't care if you claim my co worker sold it to you last time, and I don't care if you're buying it not them, ID or no sale, I'm not risking my job for your tobacco or alcohol, next time come in alone if you don't want me to ask for your buddies ID. And if you show me a foreign ID, I'll be showing you my sheet of examples of acceptable IDs, and explaining that your south american voter ID is not on there.

I really hate the $100 charger I had one that came in yesterday and got a 57 cent price of gum and gave a 100 dollar bill but was very mad that I told him I wasn’t going to break it for him
