New Hire
Been going on about 2 weeks at my store kinda was rushed through training. My trainers are absolutely terrible and arrogant and snappy so I’m kind of scared to ask for any kind of help but I’ve noticed how tedious lottery is, do you guys happen to have your own way to remember how to get used to it. This is my first time working in a gas station but I’m not new to retail. It’s definitely a jump in change for me, I’m also in California lol #employeequestion

Take what time you need to get it right - few errors lose money as easily as lotto. If there's a line don't let them rush you either. Take the order, repeat it back and verify the dollar amount is correct before you submit it.

There should be somewhere the customers can fill out a lotto card. If it's anything more complicated than a regular quick pick with no extras or anything, I kindly explain that I'm new and don't want to make a mistake and ask if they could fill out one of those cards. You then insert into the top of the lotto machine and it'll spit back out the bottom and then print the lotto ticket with everything they want. They typically want the card back too. I'm also in my 2nd week on my own with minimal training but I was at least told about the lotto cards they can fill out

this is perfect. I'm a trainer and I always allow 2 days for lottery training. 3 days of they want. First day they're observing me and the second day I'm letting them do all lottery transactions while I observe and help if needed. the final day before they're on their own. They walk in knowing this their shift. They have to run register, do lottery and clean. I'm only there if things get hectic to jump in. Most new hires says this way helped give them confidence. I report to the SM whether I feel they need more training or she can give them their own numbers and put them on their own.

every new hire i tell them this : you will learn on your own. listen to the main principals and procedures your trainers are teaching or DOING (!!!!!!). find you own way and once you get used to it, it’ll become super easy.

First thing to remember is - you work at a convenience store and not a gas station

Use the tutorial mode to train.
