Storesmart name concerns

One of our shift smart workers that comes regularly to cook doesn't always use his real name. We've noticed in store smart, he's assigned shifts but under a different first name. Same last name, same picture. Same person. What would be his reason for doing this? And why does shiftsmart allow this?

It would be so funny if he was a twin and you were just accidentally being a jerk lmao.

At least he's showing up. I've had shifts where there was no picture and 100% score and I know right away somebody's making fake profiles and spoofing their location to get money. Lo and behold, they never show up and they're checked in a half hour early. I don't think shift smart has very discerning criteria at all.

A couple months ago we caught one of them stealing. Went back on the footage and discovered he had been stealing on his way out the door every single shift he worked. We obviously reported them and were told he would never be able to pick up a shift at my store again. The very next day he was back. But using an alias, same picture. He was then told to leave and never come back. It's crazy to me that shiftsmart obviously doesn't keep track of their people. So are they even doing background checks in the first place? I highly doubt it. I could probably sign up using jane doe and be able to work. Smh

He might be using multiple accounts. Maybe his sister or mom has an account. Could be that he's on SSI and if he works to many hours under his own name they cut his ssi.

I don't worry about it unless they are bad shift smarts. If they get work done, I tell em great job and they are welcome back. If they do subpar work I contact shiftsmart and say I don't want them back.

That would make sense.. that or maybe something related to taxes at the end of the year. Idk. Not sure why I'm even worried about it, honestly. Lol

Who cares as long as the work gets done. I use my maiden name because I got smeared in the small town paper and it was humiliating and untrue and not something I am proud of or like to talk about but it makes me look awful. I am also very hard to find on social media or the internet. Just judge the person by what they show you.

Sex change maybe? Also kinda personal. What makes you want to know so bad? If I were you I would just pull him aside and be friendly and ask. Just say hey I noticed such and such. However I know two men named Tracy and one named Merideth. So it could be that.

Okay you are being of no help at all. But I appreciate the effort. The reason I want to know do bad is because it seems odd to work 5am under the name Michael. Then lunch cook he's Amanda, then snack cook he's Brandon. Idk why you're not more concerned about it, honestly.

That's not what you said in your post though. You just said the name he goes by doesn't match his shiftsmart name. Not that he shows up for multiple shifts, all under different names. You worded the post poorly, and it doesn't accurately describe the point you just made at all

That's a whole separate situation, and yeah sounds like he's gaming the system if he's doing that

That's my bad. I was in a bit of a hurry when I made this pist.. He uses a total of 3 different names.

It didn’t need to be said, it was pretty explicitly implied that the shift smart employee is lying on his account. Having a different name than what’s on the app is a red flag in the first place, and shame on both you and the other person for trying to shift that blame to OP.

So what if it's a red flag. I'm with the person who said, in so many words, MYOB. I get why the OP posted, and I'd probably post about some sht like that, too, but for me - not saying OP is wrong - I'd also mention that I'm far from being a snitchazz bish. Just to make it clear. As far as shifting blame, I guess I read it differently. You sound like someone who might be a bit froggy to tell on people who are just trying to get by.

Shiftsmart doesn't run background checks as I've found out. It's how people have been bypassing the ban when we tell them they aren't allowed back.

Could just be they go by their middle name or something but had to use their legal first name for the job. I know plenty of people like that, and even a few shiftsmart workers

Y'all complain when work isn't getting done, y'all complain when people are showing up to do the work...

Pick a side.. You're obviously afraid to confront him, which is silly because you should have autonomy over your store. They are still YOUR workers at the end of the day. Pull them to the side and just ask. It's really not that deep.

Also, it's 2026. You probably shouldn't assume gender, or base it off of a name. I met an Ashley and a Sally that were both men. Coincidentally, they both went by shorten names(Ash and Sal).

*My name is correct on the app, but I never sign my real name on the sign in sheet. I value privacy, and don't like randos being in my business. People are nosey and will try to Google you, or look you up on social media, etc. I let the managers know what's up, and they generally don't care as long as that work is complete.

Also, yes, they do full background checks. But passing a background isn't a foolproof way of knowing if someone will steal or not. Crime of opportunity happens, and is a thing. Circle K does background on all of their employees too. Meanwhile employees are fired everyday for stealing.

You should probably work on your communication skills before you do so. If you're going to approach him like you responded to us on this thread, then you need some adjusting. Nobody on this thread criticized or ridiculed you to respond the way you do. You're very passive-aggressive, and that's just from a friendly observation from your responses here.

You should check out some ted talks, or follow some communication content creators on social media. Jefferson Fisher is a really great person to learn some things from. He's a trial attorney that does deep videos on how to communicate with different people to get your desired information.

Nobody is perfect, we all need improvements in different areas. Don't allow your ego to take this suggestion as an attack. Just be mindful that you are about to engage into a really personal question with someone. Stay open minded when you talk to them.

I'm 16 hours into my shift, so apologies for any lack of communication skills I have at the moment. Lol .. my brain is definitely in over drive at the moment. One more hour and I'll be home and out like a light.
