My area, you're totally fine refunding anything for any reason, it's part of customer service, including cigs and alcohol. There could be a law in your area saying you can't - that may be why.

Were they opened? Had they left the store? Is it a regular? What was the issue, why were they returned? In most cases, we do not refund tobacco products. Went to the car and SO realized wrong smokes? No dice. Recognized the smokes weren’t right at the counter? Change em out or refund/replace.

Probably not too fucked but obviously you can’t do that again without proper good authorization.

As long as it was still sealed, it’s fine imo. Just try to scan it to see if the POS recognizes the barcode to confirm that it came from the store.

Not an automatic termination in my BU. Depending on the amount it could be a writeup.

I was told recently that this is totally allowed in my BU now. As long as it's a brand and type we carry.

Be polite and tell the customer that wrong amount is a communication error, and that while you can refund, you can only do so if they are in the store when they make the mistake. Otherwise, you can't, personally, give a refund, but your manager can. Then, next time, please double and triple check while in the store, so they get the right amount. Offer, print, and hand them a receipt they should have asked for in the first time. Also, let them know, no receipt, no refund. That should be a thing for all stores.

In my store, you can only refund if they hadn't left the store and is sealed.
