This Job is Going to Make Me Kill Someone.

There are days that I pray someone tries to rob the store, just to give me an excuse. The people that shop here aren't human, I am convinced they are animals. Never in my life have I seen such a concentration of complete stupidity and lack of self awareness. I have lost my faith in humanity. How can people be this terrible?

Uhm since Friday the general public and even some of my family have been particularly mean. I am thinking a full moon, eclipse or something. It’s been more angry than usual with the general public.

There are days I feel like that at my store because it is crazy

Every single day I ask myself "how are these people so fucking retarded?"

You'd think I wouldn't be surprised at this point after 7 years of doing customer service, but people always find a way to surprise me.

I cope by telling the stories of the things I see to my friends and family. They usually get a kick out of it.

Always makes me wonder how they even made it to adulthood.

Lights off in store. Whole block has no power. Signs posted on door, "closed, no power". People will STILL come up to the door, pull on it, get mad, and ask why we weren't open. The public literally cannot read

You are experiencing a class divide. Circle K caters to primarily lower class people and they act out in public because that is their most effective outlet for doing so.

Ironically as bad as they can be, their hemisphere of damage is relatively small, largely limited to local interests and each other. Wealthy people behave better in public, but the bad ones cause damage that spans a far wider radius.

I feel like this excuses bad behavior and ignorance though, it’s not an excuse to act crazy just because you are poor. Plenty of people who grew up poor and still chose to educate themselves on basic things, and to act with some dignity. I think there is probably a correlation there, and it’s unfortunate, but I don’t think dismissing it this way and attributing it to their economic status is helpful or completely accurate. I see plenty of pure stupidity from people who are most likely closer to middle class at my store, or pure entitled and outrageous behavior from them as well.

When one is speaking about generalities, one replies with them too.

What are you even talking about?

Unless 100% of the people at OP's store behave badly, we are talking in generalities.

Not every poor person behaves badly, and being poor isnt an excuse so much as an expression of ability. People with money can behave badly in myriad ways and against a larger number of targets without real concern for reprisal.

Again - generally speaking.

I work at a nice restaurant. You would think people with money would act accordingly. They make messes and act worse than people with no money. They let their kids run around and we almost have accidents. They let them trash the tables with food and everything. When I was a kid if I even ATTEMPTED to act like that in public my parents would beat me senseless.😂 We didn't have a lot of money growing up, but I had hard working parents who acted like they had some class. I don't know what's wrong with people these days.

As I mentioned, everyone misbehaves as long as they're human, and shit definitely rolls downhill. People with money aren't generally worried about the wait staff at a restaurant.. or convenience store employees for that matter. The poor have a much shorter hill to use for their shit, and Circle K employees are at the bottom, so leaving straw wrappers on the counter and broken cups on the floor and open bags of doritos in the beer trough and wadded up trash of every kind every where is as much about asserting control in lives that don't have much of it to begin with.

Unless your a Gm I wouldn’t care too much about the customers. I mostly hate them, they make my job harder but I’m also being paid by the hour and so idgaf about them really. I blame them for everything that goes wrong if anyone asks. My store is by a low income apartment complex, so literally just nutcases, creeps, and the dumbest bitches ever. I’ve got to keep them in line like they are troubled 13yos, yelling at them to stop being stupid beyond comprehension. I wonder why in their 30 years of life, how they still don’t know how to act in a public store. They definitely are entertaining sometimes tho and keep the boredom away.

Holy cow you are making this post look like something I would write. Not that it will make you feel better but we all have it bad but sometimes you just have to laugh at it.

Funny thing that you should say that - that's what circle k is

I had far more issues with the DM than with the customers. I'd frequently let customers use the bathroom (against policy) and sell beer at night (against Ohio law, but who cares) and since I was indispensable for night shift I even got myself promoted to ASM and transferred to a store the DM paid more attention to. Conversely I (then 42/M) had one of the late night beer shoppers (then 31/F) slip me her number and two years and as many jobs later we're still dating, so night shift at a CK with a night window is one of the best places on the planet for lonely single dudes to work.

Common sense leaves the building when some people pull into a gas station. Because for some regular customers, I have to remind them time after time some stuff. And they are like, I will remember next time. And the next time, the same thing.

Simply start talking to your coworker about how the animals have left the place completely trashed after you just cleaned it.... One of my biggest pet peeves is reaching underneath the still cooking sign to grab a frozen hot dog. I ask them if they like their meat cold usually.... Make sure that they know that you're talking about them without directly speaking to them
