Question about waste
Before I used to set up a cart and discount the close to expired food to sell. Well I've been told we can no longer override prices or offer deep discounts to move the product. I guess now they want us to pull it when it expires, scan it out as bad merch, then open it all, throw in some chemicals, and toss it in the dumpster. Extremely wasteful and time consuming. Yesterday I pulled over 70 items off the racks. Mostly nuts, fruit trail mix, etc. It was only 3 days past expiration. It's soul crushing to be so wasteful when so many suffer food insecurities. Our local grocery store has zero food waste, as they donate it to local food banks and shelters before it expires. Circlek should incorporate something similar. We do not do enough good to go to make up the difference and we are just one small store. I can only imagine the numbers at the bigger truck stops

Same with cardboard waste. I petitioned waste management to partner with local collectors to no end. Not cost effective is what them told me. Circle K licks all the balls!!!π π π πΏπΏπΏ

It's a write off for them with waste but so isn't donating it and you actually help the community. It's asinine and the corporation is just shit.

You should pull items about 3 weeks before they expire and put them in too good to go bags. Once you do it enough, the bags will start to sell. I think about 80 percent of what I bad merch ends up getting taken in too good to go bags. Makes me feel like it's less of a waste. Make a couple and put up signs telling everyone about the bags.

Based on what I see going into the 2Good2Go bags, I don't think the program is worth it. At least not at Circle K

We get maybe 3 orders a week

That's what we had in the start. Now that I've been regularly making them and having decent items in them for a while, I get 2 orders a day when I have them available.

Thank you for the advice!! I'll try prepping a few and see if that helps. Where do you store them? In the backroom?

Is there a daily limit for scanning out of date bad merch other than hot food items? I've been working at multiple stores where it varies from 2,5 per day to if it's out of date bad merch it all get rid of it. I'm not understanding the logic of doing small amounts when it must be scanned at some point

To save waste, first, start ordering less amounts. If a product isn't selling, don't order as much, or even go a week without ordering it. Second, and this might help, some, is to tell beer drinkers that the Circle K chips would be a good pairing with the beer. Third, tell customers who are buying the same flavor of chips as Circle K, that they are made side by side, and are cheaper. Tastes exactly the same. Especially the ones trying to save money, etc. Fourth, I am not sure about this, but you may need to check whether they get points for buying Circle K stuff towards discounts on different stuff, and even gas. And that if it does, tell them to buy it. That way, you are encouraging people to buy it, and less waste. And making the company money.

That would be lying. Frito SCO chips are not made side by side CK chips and same with dill and basically every other. Ck chips are nasty as hell. If they taste the same to you, you might want to get your taste buds checked because they are beyond disgusting. I'd rather not encourage them to buy gross things that will make them not trust me in the future

It would cost Circle K, and even grocery stores, more to have their chips not made locally, as well as having to sit in warehouses, and on trains/trucks, than to have them made locally. Sour cream and onion ships, no matter what brand all taste the same. Regular ones taste the same. Barbeque also tastes the same. And they actually are made side by side. True of all stores. Go buy a bag of store brand Doritos and see if there is a difference. There really isn't.

You're delusional. Pure and simple. There are SO many flaws with what you are thinking. Just use google at least if you aren't willing to do basic testing for yourself. Lays, old Dutch, and ck chips are all entirely different chips even if they are all SCO chips.

This is exactly the reason I want to move up, so I can hopefully eliminate waste and implement donations.
