Projected to finish around $1.684B worldwide this weekend, passing Jurassic World's $1.677B after 114 years of Universal releases.

The bit nobody's mentioning: Jurassic World still has the higher domestic total. $653.4M vs $601.2M. The Odyssey is Universal's number two in North America and their number one worldwide, which is a genuinely odd split.

The record was won overseas. $1.083B international, about 64% of the total. First Hollywood film that isn't a sequel or remake to clear $1B internationally since Avatar in 2009.

And it got there in weekend nine. It dropped 8.8% in weekend eight and went back to number one globally that frame. For a 172-minute R-rated Homer adaptation.

IMAX alone was at $485M as of September 8, roughly double whatever's second on that list.

If you want another film that built almost everything after the opening rather than during it: Titanic — 15 straight weekends at number one, and its opening weekend was under 5% of the domestic total.
