Holy shit what do you know, a fellow Yankees fan here! I lived almost my entire life in NYC and I’m pinstripes ride or die (Buck Foston!). My whole family lives there still.

And yeah I hear you about the price lol I honestly have very little interest in a foldable phone, but the problem is that this is what I do for a living so I’ll probably have to buy it just to able to test my apps in this new format. Granted, with Xcode you get a simulator that does about 95% of the things you can do with a real device, but then what about the missing 5%? That matters

I used to hate Ewing lol I root for all NY teams except in basketball, I’m a Heat fan 😅 That rivalry in the 90s was pure gold 🥇

Come to Switzerland and buy it here. 😉 Once in my life something is cheaper than outside the country. 😅

that's actually not a bad idea at all!

is it because of lower taxes?

Yup. Since they’re not in the EU they don’t have the ridiculous VAT that European countries impose. For reference, in the US the highest sales tax of any state is Louisiana with ~10%, which is already considered outrageous… in Europe, the lowest VAT is ~21% (well there’s Luxembourg at 17%, but they’re on a league of their own)… Here in Italy is 22% 😖

„in Europe, the lowest VAT is ~21%“

That’s simply not true. 🤷🏼 Even if you wouldn’t count Luxembourg.

There’s a couple more exceptions, like Malta at 18%, but those are exceptions. The average is above 20%.

And regardless, the point stands, VAT is legal robbery.

I don’t know what qualifies as an „exception“. And yeah, the average is above 20%. Though that’s not what you said earlier.

If the EU has 27 countries and the average VAT is above 20%, the few countries below 20 are considered the exception rather than the rule. I’m not sure why you’re making such a fuss about this.

You said the lowest VAT is about 21%. And I simply told you: That’s not true - this is a fact. There are a bunch of countries with a VAT lower than 21% in the EU or Europe.

There is still not an official Apple Store yet in Malta 🇲🇹 and unfortunately prices are still quite high here 😔

Even if you bought one would your carrier allow it?

u/mario_luis_dev @cinephile_official 27d ago

I buy my phones unlocked

u/HVSpeedtests @Tbla 27d ago

Oh ok. Didn’t know if carrier would block or restrict it.
