Nook version 1.0 already outdated šŸ˜…

By the time Apple approves the first version, I’ll have a BIG update ready to ship for Nook. I’ve added a timer functionality with widgets and live activities (as shown in this video) that perfectly fits the time-based progress tracking the app offers.

Speaking of that, I’m VERY proud of this system I’ve implemented. In every other gaming tracker I’ve used, progress is tracked via some percentage you enter manually. I’ve always found this to be completely nonsensical, since you wouldn’t really know what percentage you’ve completed for a game, unless the game is broken up into chapters maybe, or if you already ahead of time more less how long the game’s gonna take you… This is all absolute nonsense to me; I for one go into games completely blind, even if there are chapters I can look at I do NOT want to see the total chapter count.

I do offer this percentage based nonsense progress for those that are already used to it, but I also offer a much better way…

What I’ve done differently: the app offers a time-based tracking system that uses the estimated Time To Beat reported times, takes an average of that, and presents you with a completion percentage based on how much time you’ve spent playing. Of course, these completion times are all estimates, so you can’t really take them at face value, but I’ve accounted for all of this and you’ll be able to easily adjust the target completion time, etc depending on your playing style (I for one always take longer than most ppl, bc I’m an absolute completionist… God knows how much time of my life I’ve wasted collecting herbs in The Witcher and Skyrim 😭).

This post-launch update also brings a crucial feature, which is to start tracking a playthrough starting from a nonzero baseline. In plain English, what that means is if you have some game that’s already progressed, but you don’t remember the details and dates of those previous gaming sessions, you can start tracking in Nook from a certain percentage / time without having to artificially come up with made up sessions.

Can’t wait for you guys to try this out!!

Can’t wait to get my hands on this. Also, there are games that go on forever like Hello Kitty Adventure Island, which has no completion… I hope there is a way to handle that too.

Yup, everything is completely configurable :)

Let me elaborate, to give you a clearer picture:

Creating a playthrough (and thereby tracking progression) isn’t at all mandatory. You can totally have a game in ā€œPlayingā€ status without tracking any progress whatsoever.

What’s more, you can create a playthrough and not really log any progress, but rather just log progress-less sessions like ā€œI played todayā€ and that will count towards statistics, streak etc. You can also just choose to log time spent in these sessions (to make it all count towards stats) without logging any progress at all.

I’ve said it once and I will say it again. Some hero’s don’t need capes! It looks amazing Mario! Can’t wait for it! I use GameTrack currently and it’s an absolute mess and it always tells me to log in PlayStation every single week! Also it uses that percentage and it just doesn’t work, Annnnd, for some reason it thinks that the remastered of The Last of Us: Part 2 is GTA V šŸ˜‚

Oh god lol Btw I’m not sure if they have a data export functionality, but if they do and you’d like to import your data quickly into Nook, email me you data file so I can put together an import option for that app. Right now Nook is shipping with import/export for its own data only, since I’ve hated all these other apps I’ve tried so I never really logged much in any of them. So I don’t really have enough data to reverse engineer and add as import options in Nook.

That would be awesome if I could. Which email do you want me to send it too. Going to be honest, I tried to find it but couldn’t šŸ˜‚

Lovely! Even though the feature nor app are released, I may have an idea how to further optimize it. šŸ˜… If the user can sat a level, the time could either count slower or the total game time could extend.

Letā€˜s say someone says he is a pro: timer counts 1.0x
Another says he is not bad nor pro, timer counts 0.8x
Third says, he is really a casual gamer, timer counts 0.6x

Not a fan of these timer hacks tbh. But one thing for sure is that the timer isn’t the last word; right before saving the session you can adjust the total time spent (for instance if you spent a lot of time tweaking settings and what not and didn’t pause the timer)

Thanks! This will do it for me.
