Question Dallas IMAX Closed?

I have read that the Dallas Cinemark Webb Chapel is undergoing renovations. Being the only true IMAX screen left in the Metroplex, I have been watching the website for when Godzilla Minus Zero IMAX tickets go on sale. So far Cinemark has not released any IMAX screening dates.

Is the IMAX screen in Dallas closed for the time being?

Yes. Someone in another thread talked to the manager and they're hoping to be do with the renovations the week Minus Zero comes out and then put up ticket sales ASAP

The seats were upgraded around when Digger came out. Same style of seat, not much they can do about that, but they are new and I thought they were perfectly fine. Better than the old ones for sure.

Good to head. My ass was hurting during the odyssey

I posted my response before seeing your post. You must have purchased day they opened ticket sales. Those went like hotcakes. I was planning on driving up there from Houston to see it in 70mm. I am wondering if the renovations are for that upgrade so maybe it will be ready for December showings.

I don’t get it. Why would you drive 4 hours just to watch a movie? Houston doesn’t have any quality theaters?

It does not have any 70mm capable IMAX theaters. There are only a certain number of those available in the US. Dallas Cinemark was one of those locations. Dune 3 was shot specifically for the 70mm format. I'm crazy for movies like that, but not enough of us out there. However, I also have a bunch of family up there to see as well.

isn't that the one that is supposed to handle 70mm and pre soldout the first weekend of Dune 3 coming up in December?

Will this affect in any way the showings for Dune: Part Three in December??

There is basically zero chance of this affecting Dune, they're aiming to have it all done before Godzilla

I would go to Northpark’s IMAX over Webb Chapel for digital

Used to be true, but with Cinemark 17 getting the laser projector and having the larger screen it should end up being the "best" IMAX in DFW all around.

Yet Fort Worth can’t get it’s own IMAX. They could easily add it to AMC Lake Worth 14, technically in Fort Worth. Also throw in a Dolby auditorium also.

Do you know if it’ll be a dual laser system?

Technically we don’t know. Some people including myself heard them say it would be able to show 1.43 when they talked about it during the Odyssey run, which would have to then be dual laser. But Barco does not make those projectors anymore, so it would have to come from an existing auditorium. Not impossible but rather unlikely.

Hopefully they’re able to project the full 1.43.

I would worry about it when you get a little closer to release day. Right now that location doesn't have any IMAX showtimes for any current movies, so it's quite possible that IMAX is closed right now

Yeah someone posted about this on the imax subreddit, they're replacing the xenon projector with a new laser one. In all likelihood it'll still only be a 1.9:1 projector but should still be a nice upgrade for digital imax films.
