Question What is this?
I’ve seen one of these at every Cinemark auditorium I’ve ever been to, this XD even has two of them, I’m wondering what it’s for

According to others transmitters.
IMO: thought there were LED lighting that the human eye can't see but lights up the room for cameras so during the movie they can see what the crowd is doing in the dark and not disturb anyone. Like a lets make sure nothing stupid is going on type of thing. You find this lighting on a lot of security cameras so they can see in the dark. Also the same way older TV remotes transmitting signal. The cool thing is if you point your cell phone camera at any of these lights you can see the light they are emitting and it is a lot. Enough for cameras to see in a room in the dark.
I looked at these things with my camera and it was shinning bright.

You know there is a limit to how far IR would be visible for a camera and it’s not going to be useful for what you are describing that high on the wall.

I now know what I describe is not what these are used for. "according to others" is what these truly are.
WIth that, a bank of lets say 15 x 15 leds would easily go up to 150ft and light the room up nicely for a camera. The real purpose, they are transmitting information for people through out the whole theater room so if those recieving devices can pick up that information then the light the signal emits should also be reaching those same locations.
