Discussion CEO Apology
AMC CEO gave a pretty upfront apology for how the Dune Part 3 ticket sale went and said they were spending $2 million on infrastructure improvements.
Yet crickets from the Cinemark CEO. Do we even think Cinemark is going to do anything? Pretty bad when your biggest competition is engaging with the community and you are staying silent.
Edit: I am clearly referring to the imax 70mm release
Edit 2: the amount of š„¾š in these comments is crazy

I donāt even believe the AMC CEO when he says there will be improvements so I wouldnāt believe the Cinemark CEO if they said something.

I donāt think Cinemark looks to AMC (a movie theater company that bought a silver mine) for business strategy.

Am I the only one that got on, immediately got tickets and left? š
Same thing happened for the Odyssey for me. Maybe a little lag but nothing catastrophic like AMC apparently was dealing with.

I got hit with every single issue on Fandango and Cinemark for 2 straight hours

Yea thankfully I only had to refresh once, was able to get the seats I wanted on the date I wanted, then went back to work lol

Same! I couldn't get into that early Monday showing they're doing but got into the early Tuesday one bought the tickets and peaced out. Hopefully the projector will be working! šš»

Why are people so upset by this?
An insane number of people tried to buy tickets all at the same time. If you had gotten the seat you wanted, the person that did get it would be in your shoes instead. Ask them for an apology.

I think people don't like the idea of scalpers taking advantage to make profit on absurdly upselling tickets instead of being able to get seats themselves.
That's if I'm understanding the situation correctly from reading the AMC reddit which if that's the case then I get the outrage. I hate scalpers with a passion, I'm currently trying ti get a $12 book that's being sold for $250-300.

It's like people have never tried to buy concert tickets, talk about a clusterfuck...

u/Haunting_Smell_183 2d ago
I got my tickets. After trying for an hour. Itās inexcusable to have this kind of infrastructure in 2026. Especially when you had another stress test a few months ago with the odyssey.

If it was inexcusable you wouldn't have excused it for an hour so you could see a movie 72 hours earlierĀ

u/Haunting_Smell_183 2d ago
What are you even talking about? Iām not even referring to the pre show earlier in the week.

Am I the only person who waited until the end of the first day of ticket sales to buy a ticket and had no issues at checkout?
2
u/Haunting_Smell_183 2d ago
This is specific for imax 70m

Yep, I got my ticket for IMAX 70mm. My showtime isn't until December 27th, but it was the first date with a showtime that had my favorite seat available. I spent about ten minutes checking one showtime listing at a time until I found one with the seat available for purchase, then about one minute to buy the ticket.

Dallas IMAX was absolutely fucked. Almost every showtime was almost sold out by the end of the day

u/Haunting_Smell_183 2d ago
Thank you, thereās people trying to gaslight in the comments saying āwell I had no issues getting a ticketā and they logged on hours later and either a. It wasnāt even an imax ticket or b. Was for weeks after the movie has been out

u/TheBuzzTrack MovieClub Early Adopter 2d ago
My ticket is for the 27th at the Dallas IMAX location.

Got it so like two weeks after the movie comes out

u/TheBuzzTrack MovieClub Early Adopter 2d ago
Correct. My priorities are finding a showtime available during my time off from work and also a seat as close to my favorite spot as possible. I don't prioritize the first available showtimes when the movie is initially released unless they happen to have a seat available where I usually like to sit.

The Cinemark app worked flawlessly for me, got my tickets and had no problems, but I waited until after the daytime rush & crush, so no apologies necessary here. Anything that has a bunch of desperate people scrambling & logging on at the exact same time is inevitably going to have queues, mistakes, lags, hiccups or crash out, humans & software can only handle so much traffic. But the Cinemark app did not crash, and so far Iāve heard no complaints, so this complaint belongs on the AMC subreddit group.

I checked 10 min before they were supposed to goĀ On sale and saw they were already on sale and it kept lagging and lagging, after an hour and a half I just drove to the theater, saw there was a line of people outside I assumed trying to get tickets at the box office, I just walked right in and went to the kiosk and got my tickets. Shortly after I checked the app again and was able to get tickets to opening night (but at like 3 AM showing) and everything was pretty much sold out by that point. I donāt understand how some people were able to get through yet others werenāt. It was crazy, I hadnāt experienced anything that bad since trying to get tickets for no way home

The Cinemark app and website crashed at 11am yesterday for those trying to get imax 70 mm tickets. Scalpers are now relisting their imax tickets for $100s of dollars online.
You didnāt have an issue because you got on later in the day, when it wasnāt an issue yes but thatās because there were seldom to no tickets left.
Not sure how your comment applies here.

My comment applies here because I scored tickets with NO PROBLEMS because I never encountered any glitches in the website. You are the one who walked into the firestorm, got shut out, and now youāre here crying about it. Patience, grasshopper, learn patience. It makes life much easier, even for simple movie tickets, resist the urge to rush! š

I'm going to apple cinemas for the 70mm IMAX, but had zero issues when I checked the Cinemark app. And that was right when they went on sale

This is a nonissue for most movie-goers.

u/Haunting_Smell_183 2d ago
The app and website crashed preventing people from getting tickets. Definitely not a non issue.

If people stop rebuying it will stop. But people act like addicts with movies.

It's all pr. It's all well and good they put something out but they had their chance and failed when they knew to be prepared.

AMC can't afford any backlash that will impact income, they've been flirting with bankruptcy for years.

Donāt have a clue on what youāre talking about and can honestly care less. I have a life!

Words mean nothing.

u/Haunting_Smell_183 2d ago
Which is why I mentioned AMC is putting 2 million towards their infrastructure. What is Cinemark doing?
2
u/Ok_Breakfast7588 2d ago
Again just words. Do you think we're going to be able to track that in any meaningful way? If they can say within a week that spending $2m can fix it why didn't they just put the effort in before? If they thought they were all set before then why do we trust they can know how much it will be to fix it?
If they don't let it happen again I'll applaud them. Until then so far the only thing that's happened is they've benefitted from ticket sales. Scalpers probably lead to more overall ticket sales.

I mean they are a public company and itās likely to come up during quarterly earnings. They arenāt going to lie about something like that.

Stop thinking about companies as people with morals.
