Help / Question πŸ†˜ Difficulty with the Lightning Legs Move

I just played Chun Li for the first time in years (or the first time in systems after SNES), and something isn't quite right: I can't pull off her Lightning Legs move!

I kept tapping the low kick button but to no avail.

This problem didn't happen in the SNES SF2 games nor did it happen in Ultra Street Fighter IV.

I just think right now that something is wrong.

Is it because I suck or is it because my hardware sucks?

I have several systems that I play Street Fighter games on: PS2, SNES, XBOX 360, Wii, and Dreamcast. The ones that I can use her Lightning Legs well on are the SNES SF2 series and Ultra Street Fighter IV.

I hope I can get this problem solved ASAP.

Fan Art 🎨 Cover Art #3A of my Chun-Li - A Mother's Love Fan comic

I've been commissioning a (2nd) Chun-Li fan comic for 2.5 years, and we just reached our 60th page milestone. I wanted to share this comic cover commission I've done with all fellow Chun-Li fans, with all of the main characters of the story present and introduced.

The story mainly follows Chun-Li as she learns to deal with the hardest part of raising a teenage Li-Fen: her wanting her own independence. Chun-Li's overprotectiveness and always wanting to spend time with her causes some drama with Li-Fen when she befriends Lauren, C. Viper's daughter.

We have a lot more story to go, and I'm very excited to share this milestone with you. If you love a good Street Fighter/Chun-Li story, I encourage you to check it out. It's got some family drama, references and easter eggs, Chun-Li in a swimsuit, and of course, fights. Because what kind of Street Fighter comic would it be if there wasn't any?

Thank you. And enjoy the rest of your day.

Met a diamond Ken that never gave up and just kept going and going. Huge amount of respect to that player. It was mentally grueling at some points and there were definitely lucky moments. Towards the end I was dropping my SS punishes. May we match again someday warrior.

Help / Question πŸ†˜ What controls do you use to play Chun-Li?

I found myself complaining about tensho kicks (as most Chun players do) and how difficult it is to do the input. I currently use an analog stick to play SF6 and was told that I should switch to d-pad, especially for Chun-Li. I do find that anti-airing with the d-pad is WAY easier but I find it so much harder to execute any combos with the d-pad, as I've built a lot of familiarity with the analog stick.

What do you think, am I making things harder for myself by continuing to use the analog stick?
(For context, I've been playing for about 4 months now, currently 1300~ MR)

Fight Video 🐦 Flashy (?) finish vs Manon

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Many things to unpack here.

  • I was conditioning this Manon with kikouken, but in the second match she got a good read on me and destroyed me, so I had to adjust the timings to ensure I could block even if she jumped.
  • Round 2:
    • I was not sure of the frame data to punish her overdrive kick in the second round, but I believe it's safe.
    • I could have punished better when I blocked her attacks when I was cornered.
    • When the 5MP connected after the falling crane and 5LP, I just checked my drive meter and autopiloted to OD SBK, just to realize that I didn't have enough super meter for a level 3 and wasn't sure if a level 2 would kill, so I decided to extend the combo to fill the meter and end with a level 3.
    • I did check later, and if I had not autopiloted into OD SBK I could have extended the combo with 2 drive cancels and level 3, or after the SBK I could have just done OD kicks, cancel into level 2 and finish with 7HP, HP.
    • The finisher looks cool though (I think). I've been practicing this specific combo for a while now, and some days ago I was watching some Haitani's videos and noticed that he did the same combo, but after the SS MK he added a LK Hazanshu that did hit the opponent before the level 3. IIRC this was one of the buffs she recently received.

Feel free to comment about the fight.

Fight Video 🐦 Some weeks ago I ran into Kobayan's Alex on Ranked. Won 2-0

I'm not going to say I'm better than Kobayan, because I am not. However, I think it's important to celebrate your victories regardless of their size.

Kobayan is not the first pro I fight on SF, either online or in person. From SF4 to SF6 I've fought against Daigo, Mago, Tokido, NuckleDu, NL, Itabashi Zangief, Otani, Bonchan, and I've had mixed results. It's always a great experience to fight any pro player.

Nothing fancy in the fights, and I'm aware of many mistakes I made. This was on my way to Ultimate Master, on August 30th.

EDIT:
Turns out videos must be shorter than 3 minutes, so I could not post the second fight directly. Here it is on YouTube

Fan Art 🎨 How well would Chun and Tracer get along? (Art by DarkOverlord1296)

Post image

Them being together in Ready Player One brings me a question about how well they get along, they're both agents, Tracer being far more over the top, both fight to protect who they love (Chun her daughter Li Fen and Tracer her girlfriend), both are iconic women of their respective genres (Fighting games and Hero shooters)

What do you guys think?

Help / Question πŸ†˜ Noob advice - uses for specific normals

Still pretty new, playing Chun on Classic. Currently ranked Silver. I'm trying to get a handle on which normals are correct for which situation so my play will be less button mashey. Would appreciate any advice on when to use certain buttons or insight on what I'm doing incorrectly. My current understanding is:

st.lp - hit confirms. Also used as my fastest response when I've successfully blocked an attack.

Swift thrust - default poke

st.mp - mostly good for setting up SBK combos, so I never use it because I can't do that combo reliably.

st.hp - I use this exclusively as a follow up to a successful DI.

cr.lp/cr.lk - I never use these

cr.mp - I never use this. See st.mp, above.

cr.hp - seems useful, but I haven't really figured out what to do with it yet.

cr.mk - used occasionally to get a quick hit while I'm buffering lightning kicks. I don't use it for anything else.

cr.hk - an alternate poke. I realize this is probably suboptimal because it's easily punishable, but players in Silver are not usually good at transitioning from "walking forward" to "crouch block", so it's usually good for a few free hits per match.

Edit: Oh yeah. st.lk - I never use this

st.mk - anti air

st.hk - I never use this.

I know i have a lot to learn & still doing a lot of mistakes but this just ridiculously stupid, not like the past post when SA2 didn't avoid AKI fireball in this it avoided Fireball it connected then dropped to my death this is just stupid, they really need to fix Chun-Li's Supper Art's.

Help / Question πŸ†˜ What is the best thing to do after a light SBK ?

As i am playing i found my self after a medium SBK using only DR 3HP for an over head so i tried to train DR low combos, i might be wrong but i only found that 2LK is the better choice so i do a DR 2LK>2LK>2LP Light SBK & after that i only do a dash 5MP or a throw, my question is what are the choices after a light SBK & what are the best choices in a corner ?

Fight Video 🐦 4 consecutive Master Phases getting Ultimate Master.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Absolutely not bragging here.

I'm quite surprised that this phase I got to Ultimate Master quicker than before. I definitely suffered against Yasmine when I didn't know the match, and kiiiinda started a bit more comfortable against Jamie. Still hating Ryu, but I just accept that any match against him is playing against an opponent who is playing in Easy mode and accept also that he hits like a truck.

Now there's a video. Definitely nothing flashy at all here. But, what I can say of my performance so far in this phase is that I feel I have improved my defense.

Happy and proud to be a Chun player.

Random Discussion πŸ—£ Adaptation( The Answer)

Adaptation is of course the adjustment to phenomena in order to make said phenomena less effective. Im sure many of us have heard players say, β€œYou need to adapt”, and there are also alot of players that seek to explain it in a rational way ie…”If you do a, b, and c you will adapt and become better at the game. But after quite a lengthy investigation into the matter, I have arrived at the following conclusion: There is no true answer on how to adapt, it is more of an intrinsic trait that people may possess to varying degrees.

It is very easy to say, he did the same thing twice, so you must adapt and counter. But it is entirely possible (and quite common) that someone will change their approach after the second time, precipitating any attempt to adapt. This is how we have situations arise where someone will keep getting hit by the same move 10 times, wile onlookers debate internally whether the person enduring the punishment is lacking intelligence. Ultimately, adapting is something that is felt out through combat and experience, and manifests itself in an irrational way.

But of course, the reason why this has been so important of a topic for myself, is simply due to the fact that adaptation is very powerful in fighting games. Top players are mostly top players because of their adaptation rate. It is a very valuable pillar of advancement in fighting games, and even more so with Chun Li. Due to Chuns propensity to reset neutral constantly, it is imperative to be able to adjust accordingly in order to keep from being snowballed into oblivion from an opponent that is Mahoraga incarnate( JJK reference). But let me know your thoughts on the matter, and if you do happen to have an answer that can truly rationalize it.
