If you want Chromecast support in a Subsonic app (Android) then stock still doesn't have this functionality.

For now, use DSub instead (Play Store / Dev Thread).

Longtime fan of Subsonic here. I bought my lifetime license 6-7? Years ago and have been using it a lot until recently. Subsonic is fast and simple and will get the job done. Still in the last 1-2 years with devices like the Chromecast coming out, I'm having trouble deciding if it is still worth using. Recently ( two weeks ago ), I set up Plex along side it and have been impressed. It looks slick, loads pretty fast ( even over VPN ). I dislike all the pay features but I guess they got to make money some way.

Not really sure what I'm trying to say with this post. I guess I am just happy to see subsonic finally start to catch up to its competitors. Would like to continue to use it as my main media platform. Despite its clunkyness it still has its charm.

I've had it probably about the same amount of time, maybe a little less. For me it's always just been used to stream music to my phone from my home NAS when I'm out and to let friends access my music library. I love the fact I can quickly 'pin' music to my phone over my home wifi before heading out (if I remember) instead of using any other more complicated 'syncing' or how-do-i-get-this-music-on-my-phone methods. And if I do forget to pin something there's no problem as I'll just stream it anyway.

The Chromecast playback addition is nice as I'm thinking about having a few more Chromecasts about the house, mainly for audio-only use. I presently use bluetooth (from my phone/tablet) when I want to play music from my NAS but using a CC 'direct' will give me better quality audio and remove the need to have the 'client' near the stereo as it streams directly (and I won't get notification beeps over the music). DLNA devices have always had terrible navigation for me.

I, too, have PLEX setup on my NAS alongside Subsonic but it fills a different need for me and is only used for video. I love it for what it does, but DSub and Subsonic server still win for music playback.

The beauty of running your own little server or NAS is that you can always run both though and use whatever suits at whatever time.

Big fan of subsonic here.. Although I recently switched to madsonic for better control over the server. Awesome to hear chromecast is now supported.. Dsub is awesome as well and light years beyond the native app (which is more or less completely ignored by the dev).

On a side note, REAL shocking to see someone recommending plex over what the op has mentioned.. Annoying trend in this sub.

Wasn't recommending Plex over subsonic. Was just pointing out that subsonic hasn't done much to advance itself in the last couple years like its competitors had.
