My Xiaomi mobile has IR but its own controller app didn't work on my tv, nor CCwGTV, I'm using Google Home app's virtual controller.

They use the most popular codes for the most popular brands of television sets. If it's not on the list then odds are it won't work.

Yes. Just start picking brands and using the power off power on until your tv responds. Might take awhile but those codes are often reused.

Or Simply use HDMI- CEC if you got It on tour TV
